Basketball vs. UDM part-2
« on: February 01, 2013, 01:17:13 PM »
If you get a chance, check out the Slocum Valpo post-game. They were talking about tonight's game with UDM before they even covered the win against Valpo. Slocum hit them twice:

1. He asked if they saw that we just our 4th-in-a-row.
2. He said "...we are a different team now..." when they asked how we ca beat UDM

KP followed up by saying that he and the team have a huge chip on their shoulders heading to Detroit. I really hope they can make something out of that feeling.

While YSU made some gains in the Pomeroy and Massey ratings as a result of the Valpo win, it didn't change their projections for tonight by much.

Pomeroy 87-73, YSU 15% chance of winning

Massey 82-74, YSU 21% chance of winning.

Based on each individual game projection, both Pomoery and Massey has YSU winning their next 5 league games after tonight, to get to 10-4, but projects to lose at Wright State and Valpo to finish 10-6.

A win tonight would be huge and would make YSU a favorite for a double bye.  A loss tonight hurts, but isn't devastating, although it would make it important to run off the next five.

Those of you that know basketball better than I ...why were they saying it is easier to shoot the 3-ball against the zone?

This team competes hard but has so many empty and careless possessions its very frustrating to watch....  Cole has continued to dribble directly into the double team throughout the entire game.  If we can knock down a few of these threes maybe we can pull it out in the last 5 minutes....

Too many turnovers, no defense whatsoever. Horrible coaching. That equals a loss

Slocum needs to believe in his bench.  He pulls his bench out if they make 2 mistake yet cole turns the ball over too much and he is not benched.  Allen looked bad again and has lost his shot.  Need to beat Csu next.

Just threw that one away!  Too many turnovers.  Need to get Cle. St. come back home and get back on track.  Meet Detroit in the tourney and see if we can steal it away next time. I don't think they're that much better than us.

I've said since the start of the year Detroit is the best team in the league. Too many scorers, too athletic and active. Blake Allen looks very bad out there. I'd like to see him sit

I cannot say that I agree with it being bad-coaching. I thought this one was over very early, and we made two position changes ...switched to zone ...went from -9 to +3 in the score. I expected Hain to be more of a factor.

We just don't match up well with Detroit.  That happens.  Effort last night was fine even if the execution at times was not.  Tuesday night in Cleveland will determine the course of the season.  As Indy outlined yesterday, win on Tuesday and the path to 10-4 by late February is wide open.  It is never easy up there but Cleveland plays tonight in Chicago.  We will have the extra day of rest.  And we have the superior talent. No excuses.
