Wethli, McCaster Earn HERO Sports All-America Accolades

Youngstown State seniors Steven Wethli and Tevin McCaster were named 2018 All-Americans by HERO Sports, the organization announced on Wednesday. Wethli was named first-team as a special teams player while McCaster was a second-team pick as a running back.

Wethli was a four-year starter for the Penguins and snapped on 472 kicking attempts throughout his career. As a senior in 2018, he snapped on 106 kicks - 59 punts, 30 PAT tries and 17 field-goal atttempts.

A model of consistency, Wethli served as a snapper for a variety of punters, holders and placekickers during his career. Punter Mark Schuler and placekicker Zak Kennedy ended their YSU careers among the Penguins all-time career leaders in numerous kicking categories. Kennedy ended his Penguin career ranked second in points by a kicker (302), second in field goals made (54), third in field-goal attempts (80), fourth in overall scoring (302), fourth in PATs made (140) and PAT attempts (143). Schuler was second in school history in career punting average at 40.9 per kick and was fifth in career punts (160). Kennedy made the final 75 point-after kicks of his career, setting a school record for consecutive makes.

McCaster was a two-time first-team All-MVFC selection during his YSU career. As a senior, McCaster rushed for a career-high 1,235 yards on 269 carries in 2018. He had seven 100-yard rushing games. For his career, he rushed for 2,970 yards on 626 attempts and scored 36 touchdowns in 42 games played. He ranked seventh in career rushing attempts, seventh in rushing touchdowns and ninth in rushing yards in school history. For his career, he had 12 100-yard rushing games.
