Louisville, Ky. -- Youngstown State sophomore Cali Mikovich and senior Miranda Castiglione were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Midwest All-Region Team, the organization announced on Thursday.

The NFCA has announced that 385 student-athletes from 157 programs have received 2016 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades.

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second, third-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2016 NFCA Division I All-American squads.

Mikovich was named to the second-team while Castiglione earned third-team honors. Castiglione is the first player in school history to earn all-region accolades twice. She was named to the second-team in 2014 as a sophomore.

This is the third time in school history Youngstown State has received multiple all-region selections in the same season. The previous times were in 2014 and 2003. The Penguins have also claimed five all-region picks in the last five seasons.

Mikovich, a All-Horizon League First-Team selection, was named to the second-team as an outfielder and batted .398 with 13 home runs, 52 runs scored, 10 doubles, 14 stolen bases and a .688 slugging percentage. Her 13 home runs set the Youngstown State single-season record.

She led the Horizon League with 70 hits and ranked second in home runs and third in batting average. Mikovich ended the season on a 15-game hitting streak and set a pair of single-game records with five hits and five runs scored against Cleveland State on April 13.

Castiglione, a three-time All-Horizon League First-Team selection, led the team and ranked second in the league with a .450 batting average. She led the league with 17 doubles, 58 runs scored and 125 total bases.

The 2014 Horizon League Co-Player of the Year also finished second in slugging percentate (.828), on-base percentage (.549), RBIs (49), tied for second in hits (68), third in home runs (12), and fourth in stolen bases (25).

Castiglione set the Youngstown State single-season records for runs scored, runs batted in and slugging percentage in 2016, and stolen bases with 29 in 2015.
