Turnovers killed us.  Can't get the ball up the floor and so many passes intercepted. You could see it coming over and over.  At least today tried to get the ball inside and drive to the basket.  Maybe there is hope.

I see we are 2.5 point underdogs.  No knowledge of WMU.  Do we have a chance?  Are we going to try to get the ball inside or just shoot 3's?

The continued shooting of 3's without trying to work the ball inside will kill us as it has.  Need to work for inside and outside shots, not just 3's without trying to get open shots etc. Not sure if they are coached this way or it just happens.

With all the new players the defense has really been poor.  On the women's team as long as the 6 players from last year are on the court, we are ok.  Bring in 4 or 44 and the turnovers begin and the defense suffers. The men's team just has too many new players.  They seem to have talent, but no defensive coordination.  In my opinion, we need to try to get the ball inside rather than taking quick 3s all the time.  And mix in the press only occasionally so we don't give up so many open shots. It could be a very poor year for the men.

I see that Northern Iowa won 16-13.  Watched some of the game on line and the Lamar field goal kicker missed 2 makeable field goals and an extra point.  Northern Iowa could have easily lost.

Other teams in the playoffs do not look like they could be better than us. We need to just get in.

I see we are 11.5 point underdogs to Columbia tonight.

I saw in the Vindicator that the Men's basketball team was stuck on a bridge in New York City for 8 hours due to the snow.  Too bad.  Energy will be difficult tonight.

It seems like we have better players and athletes compared to last year, but they are not in sync on both offense and defense.  I think we need to use the full court pressure only occasionally for this group to be able to keep the opposition from scoring so easily.  I know it is the coaches plan, but it hurts us badly when used too much. Maybe when the rotations are settled the players will be more coordinated.

As I see it no video for the games in NYC.  Hope for a good showing.

Great win at Pitt! All the returning players are contributing, most at a high level.  Bench is short and that will hurt with most starters playing 35 minutes.  The new players are going to have to grow up fast for us to continue at this level. Glad for Melinda Trimmer.  She stuck with the program for 4 years and didn't play much, but is an important cog in the team this year. Need number 1, 4,and 44 to grow quickly.

The change in the O line starters made a huge difference in my opinion.  Also the help on the edges by the RB and TE's. Last week at NDSU we were dead with no RB and our QB in the shot gun.  Their DE's didn't get much pressure all game this week.  Last year UNI killed us on the edges.  Too bad the changes weren't done sooner in the season.  Could have changed our season.

I think the dropped td pass and spike on 4th down really hurt.  But more important I think is the play at the beginning of the game where we should have had at least a FG or better yet a TD.  All the games it seems we miss opportunities that would have but pressure on the other team at the beginning of the game and we miss out. Our D is not great, but acceptable. The offense really puts them into to many possessions and we are mostly down on the scoreboard.  Our left tackle was getting beat time after time and we had no running back to help pick him up.  So the QB was in trouble and cant really do much under that pressure. Game plan was shaky in my opinion running the QB and not 37.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Vindicator Article on Basketball Today
« on: November 03, 2018, 11:15:10 AM »
The Vindicator is up to their old ways; down on Youngstown and YSU most of the time.  With the Basketball article today, I don't think we need any enemies for sure, the Vindicator is it. Some of what he says is true, but for the local paper to focus on only the negative at the beginning of a new season is poor for sure to me. In my opinion I don't think the Oakland Gym is that great and I don't think Beeghly Center is that bad.  I have been to Akron and Kent also and both don't have the atmosphere and color that Beeghly does.  In the winter we all need some bright lights to enhance the winter mood for sure.  What Beeghly needs most of all is to replace the roll out bleachers on both sides, not the red seats, and I think it would be fine.

It seems to me that the QB and O line are the big question marks to me on offense.  If they are up to speed we have a chance.  I feel good about our running and passing games.

On defense who knows about us.

I hope we do well.

I noticed that Akron and Kent played some of the big boys and did not get blown out as they have in past years.  Haven't really followed them lately, maybe they are improving their talent level.

The game is on Armstrong 179 (HD) or 33.  Not sure about other suppliers.  It is the same network that carries the Pirates games.

As I recall we have a tight end transfer from OSU also.  Not sure they will both stay at that position if they are strong players and both need to be on the field.  Good problem to have.

Any players from last year that have left the program; especially those that were counted on to start?
