Going to the MAC would make us a little less irrelevant than we are now. As low as the MAC is in FBS it is still more relevant than FCS. The only game of the year FCS gets noticed is the money games. IAA championship on CBS made it seem relevant. FCS championship on ESPN2 opposite NFL playoffs not so relevant.

Wick is right on the money as usual. Until we know what is our baseball budget is it is tough to make comparisons. I’m just glad that we still have baseball in our budget. With the challenging landscape of college sports, to still have football, men’s and women basketball, track and field, baseball and softball is a credit to the university. I wish we would we competitive year in and year out in all our sports, but at least year round I can find a sport to root for.

The NCAA should have learned from Major League Baseball. For years, MLB used the reserve clause to keep their players for as long as they wanted them. The NCAA restrictions weren’t as bad as Major League Baseball but considering that the players received just room, board and tuition when millions were being reaped in by the NCAA and the colleges was extremely unbalanced.
The NCAA when confronted with the amount of money being made by the NCAA and the colleges made no effort to compensate the players. When the courts ruled in the players’ favor, it became like free agency in Major League Baseball…players going to the highest bidder…my team be damned.
If the NCAA had developed a better compensation plan before it went to the courts it may have been able to avoid the runaway freight train it has become.

The visibility of the CBI and CIT is so low with the NCAA and NIT playing at the same time. Last year vs Oklahoma State was a great experience. As diminished as it is, it’s still the NIT. If you have a team with a lot of returning starters maybe the CBI and CIT are worth it. But with one and done seniors, it’s probably not worth the money. If the NCAA Tournament expands to 76 teams, maybe the NIT will bring back the mid-majors.

YSU Penguin Athletics / No Automatic Bids for Regular Season Champs in NIT

Last year YSU’s men’s team received an automatic bid to the NIT because they were regular season champions. It was a great night for the basketball program as YSU hosted Oklahoma State in the first round. It won’t happen this year as the NIT has eliminated the automatic bids for mid-major regular season champions. The major six conferences will receive two automatic bids and will be offered the option to host the opening games. Just another widening of the gap between power conferences and mid-majors.

When you’re ranked #20 and you’re playing #10 on the road and lose by a field goal…isn’t that almost expected? I think some fan’s expectations are really unrealistic.

The FCS championship drew an audience of 1.07 million-opposite NFL playoffs. That was a little less than the average. When Sam Houston played in finals almost 3 million watched because of Houston market. The lower bowls averaged between 1-2 million this past bowl season. There is very little interest nationally for football under the Power 5 Conferences. I agree that the move up is probably not worth the amount of money it take to be even mildly competitive. Eventually I hope the MAC realizes the futility of trying to be relevant at that level and joins the FCS.

NKU was 3-17 vs YSU in Horizon Tournament. Brandon is such a force on the boards. Good representation by Horizon in NCAA and NIT. IUPUI and Green Bay being rated two of lowest rated teams in DI hurt league’s overall rating.

Let’s assume 15 home games with 500 students a game(which is a big assumption.) That would be an additional $37,500. I think the students should get in free. We went 14-3 at home and could have easily won each of the three games we lost. I believe the students are integral part of crowds and would not start charging for them. Almost all major universities allow their students in for free.
