That should be required reading Pizza ...great post.

Okay. Here is all I could find out:

1. Of the 4 asked to leave ... Williams (and another HS Friend from the ACC, VA Tech) both accepted offers from Hampton. The friend was dismissed after an altercation related to a DUI. There could have been a change & Williams is coming here. If that is so, I would assume they are both coming.  There is also an LB from Miami (OH) that has left the program. He has 4-years left to play & he is from Plantation City, FL. This could be the individual coming here. Hampton has it on their site already from a couple weeks ago. Here is the local paper's article:

2. Devont'a Davis does have a copy of transcripts at YSU.

Hopefully there is more tonight.

Game changer or not ...this is YSU. Both of these guys were asked not to return. When you are asked not to return to Miami(FL) ...need I say any more? After all, these are 2 and 4 star recruits. So far this is all talk, let's wait until it is confirmed. We should know by tomorrow night. I do know that one of them does not have transcripts at YSU. The other I have not checked.

on the lighter side:

I never heard of Miami (FL) as "the U" ...this is Ohio. I have heard OU referred to as "the U" ...to distinguish it from OSU. We experienced fans call Miami(FL)  "[insert favorite Italian/Spanish slur beginning with letter D*] U".  People in Boardman and Cleveland call it "Bernie U". People here in Columbus simply call them "the team that Tressel beat in 1992", or "How-Dee-Do U" ;D

*Cannot even say it anymore ...darn you Johnny Cochran".

I am not certain our staff had such poor defenders ...I know they had a poor plan. Our defense from last year was designed for the SWAC, whose offenses need to score basketball-type numbers to win because of this. I am hoping our staff realize what the MVFC requires now & that Cochran is working some "magic" ...injury free of course.

I was very happy to see Rado and List in there with Cooke. What a great career Radakovich has had so far. He will be on the next 25-year team. List is just getting started.

Missouri Valley Football Conference defending champion UNI has been picked to win the MVFC crown in 2011.
The Panthers received the top spot in a poll conducted by league coaches, media and sports information directors.
UNI, which has been ranked in 81-straight regular-season polls, received 316 total points and 29 of 36 first-place votes. The Panthers were one of three league teams in the FCS playoffs last year and finished the 2010 league slate with a 6-2 mark and outright MVFC crown.
North Dakota State finished second in the balloting, earning six first-place votes and 275 points. The Bison also qualified for the FCS playoffs and won two games before falling in the quarterfinals in overtime to Eastern Washington - the eventual national champ.
Southern Illinois, which finished in a six-way tie for third place last year, received the remaining first-place vote and earned 207 points to finish third in the pre-season balloting.
The next three spots in the pre-season poll were tightly contested, as four points separated South Dakota State (172), Illinois State (169) and Indiana State (168).
The last three pre-season favorites (NDSU-2008, UNI-2009, SIU-2010) did not win the league, but a pre-season favorite has claimed the league crown 13 times (in 25 previous polls).

Former Youngstown State wide receiver Dominique Barnes (Southfield, Mich.) signed as an undrafted free agent with the Detroit Lions on Thursday.

At YSU, Barnes caught 168 passes for 2,062 yards and 15 touchdowns in 40 games played. His 168 career receptions rank second in school history, while his 15 touchdowns are fifth along with his 2,062 yards. He set a school record with a reception in 34 consecutive games. In 2009 and 2010 he had more than 60 receptions, becaming the first player in school history to record more than 60 catches in consecutive years.

Last year, he was a frst-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection. Barnes had a career-high 67 catches for 911 yards and four touchdowns, good for an average of 82.8 yards per game and 13.6 per reception. On four occasions he had at least 10 receptions, including tying the school record with 11 at Penn State. He had five 100-plus receiving yard games, highlighted by 151-yard effort vs. North Dakota State.

For the campaign, he had 1,344 all-purpose yards rushing for 34, returning 11 punts for 182 and 12 kickoffs for 217.

In 2009, he was an honrable-mention all-conference selection. Barnes caught 60 passes, playing alongside Donald Jones, who signed with the Bills as an undrafted free agent last season. Barnes led the MVFC with eight touchdown receptions and finished with 762 yards.

Barnes is the second member of the 2010 Penguins to sign as an undrafted free agent joining cornerback Brandian Ross (Packers).

A couple links. Does anyone know if the Wonderlick test for the NFL is different that the standard? Brandian's score is very good.

I never knew we did not get along. I do not even know the people  fb  All we have to do is stop posting and it will fall off the page and out of everyone's mind. I do not want to delete the post though, as you said Pita, at least people are smart enough to see the difference.

He is a hard worker, and determined. You have to give him all the credit in the world. He is earning everything he has gotten. Good luck!

5605
Former Youngstown State cornerback Brandian Ross (Richmond, Va.) has signed as an undrafted free agent with the World Champion Green Bay Packers. Ross is the first YSU defensive player to sign with an NFL franchise as an undrafted free agent since Russell Stuvaints in 2003.

Ross, a second-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection in 2010, played in 45 games during his YSU career, starting in 33 of his final 34 games. He had 223 total tackles, seven interceptions, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles in his career from 2007-10. During his career, he played both safety and cornerback as well as seeing action on special-teams coverage units.

In 2010, he was credited with 60 total tackles, including 40 solo stops. He also had a team-high three interceptions. In 2009, He moved to cornerback from safety during the campaign because of injuries. For the year, he had 47 total tackles and two interceptions. In 2008, Ross was an honorable-mention all-conference selection. In 12 games, he posted a team-high 98 tackles. As a freshman in 2007, he finished with 18 tackles while appearing in every game on special teams and as a reserve in the secondary.

A four-year letter-winner, the 22-year-old Ross was a team captain during his senior season in 2010 and never red-shirted.

The only other known Penguin to sign with the Packers was defensive tackle Harry Deligianis in 2001.

YSU Penguin Athletics / 2011 Volleyball Prospectus/Shchedule
« on: July 26, 2011, 01:47:34 PM »
The Youngstown State volleyball team will begin its 2011 campaign one month from today under second-year head coach Krista Burrows.

The Penguins will play three teams that qualified for the NCAA tournament last year and a total of 12 matches against programs coming off of 20-win seasons. They'll play NCAA tournament qualifiers Sacred Heart and Indiana as well as Syracuse in the opening two weeks of the season. The first of 10 home matches is set for Sept. 6 against Eastern Michigan, and the Horizon League schedule will start on Sept. 16 at Wright State.

The season will commence on Aug. 26 against Siena at the Syracuse Big Orange Tournament when the Penguins take on Siena. YSU will play Syracuse and Sacred Heart the following day before traveling to Kent State on Aug. 30 for a midweek match. The Guins will then travel to Indiana to play in a tournament against the Hoosiers, Buffalo and SEMO on Sept. 2-3.

YSU will welcome Eastern Michigan to Beeghly Center for the first time on Tuesday, Sept. 6, to open the home portion of the 2011 schedule. The Guins will play their final in-season tournament that weekend at UMBC against the host Retrievers, Fairleigh Dickinson and Norfolk State.

The Penguins will open Horizon League play on Friday, Sept. 16, at Wright State, and they'll play at defending tournament champion Butler the following afternoon. YSU will return home to play Robert Morris on Sept. 20, and the Guins' first Horizon League match at Beeghly Center will be Sept. 23 against Cleveland State.

YSU will play defending regular-season champion Milwaukee on Oct. 1 for its third straight home match, but the Guins will start a tough road swing on Oct. 4 at Loyola. The Penguins will play at Loyola, Green Bay, UIC and Valparaiso in a six-day span to conclude the first round of the conference circuit.

The Guins will return home to host Butler and Wright State on Oct. 14 and 15, but they'll head right back on the road to play at Cleveland State on Oct. 21 and at Milwaukee and Chicago State on Oct. 28-29. YSU will conclude the regular season with four straight home matches against Valparaiso and UIC on Nov. 4-5 and against Green Bay and Loyola on Nov. 11-12.

Burrows will have eight newcomers and eight returners on the 2011 squad. Brittany Grove and Brianna Kern will be the only two seniors, and transfers Rachel Gambow and Kelsey Wagy will be the lone juniors.

To be honest, I never consider Sports Network to be much, but they do cover I-AA/FCS and I think this is only the beginning of the "armor" he will be seeing this year.  fb

Youngstown State junior tailback Jamaine Cook (Cleveland, Ohio) has been tabbed a preseason third-team All-American by The Sports Network/Fathead.com, the sports service announced on Friday.

Earlier this month he was one of 20 players named to preseason Watch List for the 2011 Walter Payton Award presented by Fathead.com, which honors the top offensive player in the FCS.

The first-team running backs are Colgate's Nate Eachus and William and Mary's Jonathan Grimes. The second-team running backs include North Dakota State's D.J. McNorton and Delaware's Andrew Pierce while Cook and Sam Houston State's Tim Flanders were third-team picks.

Cook had a breakout campaign in 2010 as a sophomore. A second-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection, he rushed for 1,276 yards on 241 carries and scored 11 touchdowns. In eight games of MVFC action, Cook had 973 yards on 199 attempts and scored eight touchdowns. He ranked 13th in the FCS in rushing yards per game (116.0 a game).

He was YSU's first 1,000-yard rusher since Marcus Mason in 2006. Cook had six 100-yard rushing efforts highlighted by season-high 213-yard effort on 43 carries at Illinois State.

He also caught 25 passes for 219 yards and returned 21 kickoffs for 393 yards showing his all-purpose skills. For the season, he had 1,889 all-purpose yards, averaging 171.6 per game to lead the conference. He finished the campaign ranked ninth in the FCS.

The Penguins are set to report to camp on Friday, August 5 with the first practice of the 2011 squad set for Saturday, August 6. YSU opens the season on Friday, Sept. 2 at Michigan State. The contest will be televised on the Big Ten Network and carried on 570 WKBN AM. For ticket information contact the YSU Athletic Ticket Office at (330) 941-1978.
