YSU Penguin Athletics / SEMO mens basketball
« on: November 13, 2021, 08:29:14 PM »
YSU looking good on the road.  Up 20 with about 4 minutes to go.   Luke Chicone really looked good in his time on the court.

97- 79 nice win on the road.  SEMO was preseason 4th pick in the OVC.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Nittany lions mens basketball

Wednesday 8:30 on the big ten channel.

Nine new players between transfers and freshmen.  Lost two good ones in Naz and DQ.

Who starts ?    I'm thinking Covington,Akuchie,Rathan Mayes and not sure who else.  Dwayne Cohill was a former 4 star who played at Dayton and Tevin Olison put up big numbers at the naia level seem to give the Penguins some fire power.
Jamir Thomas has great size but coach seems to like those 6'5" to 6'6" guys that can play three positions.   Myles Hunter fits the discription and showed flashes last season.

Not sure about the frosh although Josh Irwin has an upper classmen body and can stroke it from behind the line.

Hampton trasfer Chris Shelton Has two years of D1 experience and put up a high percentage from the 3 pt line.
Hopefully Alex Vargo, Will Dunn  and Daniel Ogoro can take their games to a new level with last years experience.

Grayson Kelly was hurt last season and Owen Long another tranfer that averged 19 a game at sub d1 level might get some minutes.

With so many guys with an expended(covid)roster it looks like there are more questions at this time.

From the YSU home page .  19 man roster counting 2 walkons.  A lot of guards.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Corey Tripp of Medina basketball

I don't want to be one of those fans that throws out random prospects and wonders why but on this one I can't understand why YSU hasn't offered.  Corey has offers from Bowling Green and Cleveland state.

I believe Coach Calhoun can recruit against those school and a great selling point is having Luke Chicone signed who is the best point guard in Ohio that will give a scoring guard like Corey the passes that will make him succeed.

Don't want to offend coach or his staff but they offer these players from North Carolina or d2 transfers when you have a gem in your back yard.

YSU Penguin Athletics / YSU vs Rochester Mi
« on: February 08, 2021, 06:06:46 PM »
Not sure if Rochester is d2 or naia but Penguins struggled to win.  Lack of intensity or just playing at the opponents level ?  Shot only 37% and 28% from three.   Maybe I should just give Rochester credit.  Their coach had them playing decent defense.
Coach C had to full court press a lot of 2nd half to change the tempo.

Posivtives of the game were Akuchie and Vargo.   Was looking for DQ to have a big game but he did not play well.  Same for Greyson Kelly .   Kelly got one shot off in 4 minutes of playing time.

1st half up 31-28 but only shooting 11 of 31.  Amazingly 8 of 8 from the line.  Both teams struggling to shoot with  both teams playing hard man to man D.

YSU Penguin Athletics / ISA vs YPSI future Penguins basketball

If you have time  check out YSU recruits Josh Irwin and Michael Lucarotti.  Josh Has a great stroke from three and Michael who didn't play his best but you can see his tremendous athletic ability .   He also runs the point which at 6-4 is pretty impresive.

YPSI has MSU recruit Emoni bates who is the #1 hs player in the 2022 class and they have 5 guys 6-8 and over on their roster.   This Isn't Struthers vs Poland(no offense) but big time hs b-ball with rosters full of d1 guys.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Game 2 CSU 81 YSU 74
« on: December 27, 2020, 05:15:51 PM »
- If DQ plays we win.
-Frosh Mayes,Dunn,Vargo showing growth.
-CSU beating us off the dribble with individual drives to the hoop.
-Better showing on offense and beating their press.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Mens basketball vs CSU game 1

Need to match CSU's intensity and the team as a whole must have enthusiasm.
Also need DQ to get it going.   Watched the Vikings play OSU and their coach had them
going to battle for 40 minutes.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Game two YSU vs NKU on ESPN2
« on: December 20, 2020, 02:21:55 PM »
3pm tip.  Looking to see what adjustments coach C makes today.

- I think the board was excited for this season with 4 starters(upper classmen) returning.

-Many have expressed that the bench is mostly frosh/walkons and the absence of Jamir Thomas and Greyson Kelly who both have college experience has stressed the progression.

-Covid has probably hurt YSU more so than most of D1 with two times shutting down the program which has resulted in very few practices.

Can't keep on harping on the same negatives.  Everyone needs to step up their game.

Down 7 at half.  Difference is that we're 3 of 13 from three and they're 7 of 13 Naz is carrying us with 17 and DQ only has 2.

Not crazy with Q sliding over as an off guard with freshmen Mayes at point.   Q is too effective not to have the ball in his hand when running the offense.

Lack of a space eater in the paint in Calhoun's 4th season in my opinion is a problem.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Wright State is a nightmare
« on: December 13, 2020, 12:49:59 PM »
Watching them lead at Bowling Green by 33 at halftime.  Louden Love who is in his 12th season at WSU is man among boys and his body is more lean than in the past.

They are very well coached and they have added some really good new players.   Tough out.
