18.5 point dogs at home is embarrassing enough.  To be completely out of the game before the 1st quarter is another.  To know there was no other possible outcome is the worst though.

This program is light years away from elite.

I get the anger....but you know he isn't getting fired.  That let Meathead Wolford get 4 full years and countless embarrassing losses.  Bo is borderline teflon around here.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: 2017 Playoffs

This won’t be popular but all that college kids care about these days is winning... outside of the FBS Power 5, they give very little credence to Conference prowess. And I speak from being part of a collegiate conference transition change, as well as coaching players who are going on to the next level. They would rather come back for winter break and tell their friends they went 9-2 than say “We went 6-5... but it was in a really good conference.” All that to say if YSU went to a smaller conference and dominated, it would probably actually  help recruiting. As long as we still had the same facilities and the amenities we have now.

Honestly, FCS would benefit from spreading the wealth. There are two conferences inside the MVFC and almost every season 6 or 7 teams in the conference are playoff caliber. It is just deflating for the division when you don’t have a real quality game until the quarterfinals. That’s when the true playoff begins.

Listen, I like the MVFC but as proud as I am of the fact that we play in a tough conference... no one outside the people on this board and those in the stands at stambaugh care about that. Their bottom line is did you win a lot of games and what did you do in the playoffs.

I think this is generally true.  That said, I do think playing in this conference has helped prepare us for high level competition in the instances when we've made the playoffs.  Every year we've made the playoffs since joining the conference has lead to a deep run, save the Richmond loss in 2000.

Obviously, this team wasn't a title contender.  I don't care what conference you play in, going 6-5 means you are just "okay".  So, Central Connecticut gets to play one more game and we don't.  That really doesn't do anything to my blood pressure as a fan of a basically .500 team.

LOL.  Wow.  I would have responses for all of this, but when you are in a conversation with a person who says things like "You are obviously one of the retards", it is best to know the kind of person you are dealing with and walk away.

This course of events should not surprise anybody.  Contrary to what some believe, the United States operates under the rule of law.  Depriving a duly registered student of access to a campus activity SOLELY because others objected to his participation was an action that would never stand up in court.  So the mess continues, and the university administration brought this all upon themselves by pandering to the mob.  And for the fifth time let me say that I am not happy that this character came here.

Despite your continued insistence that the university legally has to give this kid a spot on the team, I still don't see why that is the case.  People don't make sports teams all the time.  It can be for talent, character, whatever...Everyone doesn't get a spot on the football team until they break the school's code of conduct as a student.

The school screwed this up for sure.  They never should have aggressively courted him for the team.  They should have had the foresight to realize that people would react negatively to one of the most well-known gang rapists in the state being welcomed on to the football team---particularly on the heels recent such ugly events in college football around sexual misconduct (most notably Baylor).  And, once they embraced the kid, this half measure was pretty crappy too.  No one was happy with "he is on the team, but he isn't".

As an aside---if a convicted gang rapist who served less than a 10 month sentence thinks there is some sort of anti-male bias (as his court argument suggests) in the world then he certainly needs some more rehabilitation.

People are stupid.  There are many other things to worry about than this stupid issue.  The kid did his time and in America that means you are free.  He still has to register where he lives under our laws.

At what point did we turn into a socialism or communism? After you pay the price by doing time and have to deal with reputation /perception that will challenge you forever you continue to be judged are are not permitted to have the freedom of everyone else?  WTF people.  Seriously?  This is stupid and all political.  Some twenty something retard  is driving this because they have no life and will never hold an important job or position in our society.  This is their 2 min of fame, their flash in the pan before they become some sort of social worker.  This is as dumb as the motjerfuclers that want to bring in Syrian refugees.  We have a right to keep them out for as long as we want because they aren't citizens.  However, since this kid is a citizen he has rights that are being taken away but the godamned communists don't understand it.  They should do something productive  not destructive.  What are the ends to the mean here?  I will tell you.  NOTHING.  They will only try to destroy a person with issues that have taken him partly down that road.  What ******* consequence will come if he plays?  Nothing.  But if he doesn't play it only hurts him.  Good for the judge.  I'm glad I don't live there anymore.  Town is running around with f'img morons now.

These protesting ********s need a lesson in civics, government, and history because they are coming from the dark ages where they clearly belong.  This is Salem witch trial bullsh**.

To the morons in the dim range of the IQ scale answer me this.......do you think his individual rights are being violated?  How would you like it if I shamed you on social media and got a petition against you because you are a w****?   Being a w**** is illegal and it would really suck if you were the husband of the w****.  But let's just say the w**** was jailed and served her time.  Now the w**** wants to get a drivers license but now I protest it.  What the he'll does that have to do with anything?
You are just a bunch of retards.  This has nothing to do with football.  Nothing.

So...the Salem witch trials---you know those people weren't witches, right?  But, this Richmond kid is actually a gang rapist.

I also find it hilarious you find Syrian refugees more threatening than an actual convicted gang rapist.  I don't understand what refugees have to do with this, but...

I also don't understand how being against a gang rapist representing the university community in a sport with a significant rape culture problem is akin to socialism or communism or whatever temper tantrum you are trying to have over "political correctness".

Hunter messed up but he outplayed the USC 5th year rent a qb for Pitt.

Well, that's true.  That Pitt QB was terrible.  Holy hell, he was afraid to throw downfield and his coaches clearly didn't trust him

Hunter Wells is very bad at quarterbacking.  Every time he doesn't throw an interception is a minor miracle.

Replace him with???? Fumble fingers #7? Broke arm MO transfer or run till you get your head tore off new WR??

He's won more than he lost. go root for another team "IF" you don't like him.

Carry on  ;)

I didn't know Hunter Wells was that important to the program that you must accept his quarterbacking abilities to be a fan.  Who knew?

The backups might suck too.  But, if the first read for Wells isn't open, you are playing Russian roulette.  It is obvious he doesn't have command over the whole field.  That was one of the worst interceptions I have ever seen in my life and there was no reason at all for it.  it's absolutely incredible.

This is what kills me about you and EVERYONE else who signed it.

"I think the vast majority signed it because they didn't want a gang rapist on the football team."

But it is OK with all of you that he can walk around the campus as a NON "Student-Athlete" and go to class EVERY ******* DAY OF THE WEEK.  Are you people ******* SERIOUS????

And he can walk around this country with a big "Y" on his shirt or a  "YSU" on his shirt and that's NOT bringing any negativity to the university because he was in juvy for 12 months?  Once again, ARE YOU ******* KIDDING ME???

Either way, he's repping YSU....pick the acceptable one.....WTF!!!!!

I don't think it is particularly great that he is on campus either.  Of course, he managed to go pretty unnoticed until Pelini sought him out.

Like I said, I think it is pretty tone deaf of the program to invite a gang rapist on the team with the rape culture pervasive on college campuses, college athletics, and frankly college football.  I am repeating myself now though.  I just think with things like Baylor swirling around the NCAA that it is a bad look for YSU to act like this is "just giving a kid a chance".

He is a current student at YSU. YSU has the policy for EEO and non-discrimination (see university policy below)
Youngstown State University does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, disability, age, religion or veteran/military status in its programs or activities.

I read this three times and I don't see "previous violent criminal offenses" listed as one of the things YSU can't "discriminate" on.  If there is something illegal or against university policy for baring this kid from playing on the team, I haven't quite seen it yet.

The action has to be taken based on university rules and regulations rather than emotions. If he is kick off the football team for this, somebody will either issue another petition or file a law suit against the University for Race Discrimination because he (an African American) was singled out for exclusion. I would assume some of you people (who signed the original petition) would sign this one too.

As someone who signed the petition, I can assure you I won't be signing some other petition if he manages to get kicked off the team.  Suggesting as such is silly.

Comments to your first Point:

You are correct. since as you said, YSU does not have it in writing specifically for "previous violent criminal offenses", then YSU really cannot discriminate against anything. University cannot manufacture a cause to prohibit certain students whom they want to exclude from participating in university sponsored programs.
Using your logic, I did not see a statement said "university can prohibit students from activities from previous violent criminal offenses" either

Comments to your second point:

The first petition is not done in the interests of the university. It try to force the university to act on issues that are not in line (or violating) with their own policy. If and when there is second petition (for race discrimination) initiated against the university, why would you not sign it since, in your mind, the university is doing something wrong again.

Let me ask you this, do you know for sure the reasons why other people (might not be you) sign the petition? How could we even know if some of them sign it because they are bias on his race?

From what I can tell, EEO regulations do not prohibit an employer from using criminal background as a screener.  Of course, this rapist isn't an employee...but it doesn't seem that EEO law is what "requires" the school to "give him a chance".

As for the other 10,000 signers---I don't know why they all signed.  I think the vast majority signed it because they didn't want a gang rapist on the football team.

How much press did this kid receive after he enrolled at YSU? If he hadn't  walked on to the playing field, would their still be a petition to prevent him from receiving an education only? Doubt it !

Ummm...the letter accompanying the petition says they are fine with him trying to better himself as a student, but shouldn't receive the elevated status of representing the school on the football field.
This is complete bulls _ _ _  Football players are "student" athletes and are NO BETTER THAN ANYBODY ELSE.  As an alum. wearing YSU gear, with YSU golf bag and club covers and a ton of hats, I REPRESENT YSU ALSO.  Does anybody have any issues WHATSOEVER about how Richmond has represented YSU in his year and a half?   You have rules for admission.  If this kid meets the requirements, then he is admitted.  Full status.  We don't have different levels of students, and we don't enforce those rules randomly as some here would like.  Most of you are former YSU students.  Didn't you learn anything is school or life about fair play?  IMO you guys are patsies for the anti-YSU editiorial staff of the Vindy.

and here I was thinking I was anti-rapist, rather than anti-YSU.  Who knew?

College campuses, college athletics, and more specifically college football has a rape culture issue.  I hope this kid can make a better life for himself---but I wish YSU's athletic department would show some better standards for who is representing the community.  The context here matters as it relates to his action and this sport, in particular.  If he were better at football, I am sure he'd be a team captain at Baylor or something.  It would have been easy to say, "you know what...we don't need a person like this on our team"----especially now that it appears that Pelini actually sought him out, rather than the other way around.

And, this doesn't have to be "fair".  Players don't make sport teams all the time.  Your character is part of you.  I am all for second chances.  I am also all for setting a good example as an institution.  I think recognizing welcoming a gang rapist to your football team is probably in bad taste would have been a good start.

Thanks!  That makes sense.  Historically, it seems like such a bizarre period---to be an independent Men's basketball program...it's like "why even have a season"?  There is no hope for any kind of postseason for a school of YSU's stature.
