YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Penguins Announce December Signees

IAA Fan couldn't disagree with you more about YSU  men's basketball.   It is all we have at the university that has any chance of national Notoriety.

Well I guess that we have no chance then.

To quote Popeye - I yam what I yam and tha's all what I yam.

YSU is mid major in all sports and that most likely will never change. From time to time football may make a run and be mentioned on ESPN for a while. Same thing for both bb teams. At this point all three teams will be excited to just make the playoffs. Not saying that is a bad or disappointing thing but just the way it is.

Honestly, least impressive group in DPs time here. Gardner might help rest are all going to be redshirt. 265 OL?  Take at least a year if he had great skill. Transfer lottery and spring signings say hold out and hope, but this clas is disappointing.

Will not know for 2-3 years how good this class is. Hope we will say it was great.

Nice pickup

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Niles standout Antuan Gardner has announced his commitment to continue his football career at Youngstown State.

He made the announcement on social media.

Gardner was recently named the WKBN Big 22 Ohio Player of the Year as well as the 2023 Trumbull County Player of the Year.

For his efforts this season, he named named First Team All-Ohio.

The senior standout rewrote the Red Dragons record book this season. His 2,461 yards rushing and 32 touchdowns are both single-season school records.

1AA, I am thinking that long awaited major shakeup is getting near. Not going to look like I thought it would. With   the conference hopping that has been going on and the money that will soon be paid to every player the P4 will separate from the pretenders and will be 1A.

The pretenders (aka low-end 1A) will be the new 1AA.

Current 1AA will in effect become 1AAA.

Question for YSU will be if they will want to move to the new 1AA or stay where they are, basically the new 1AAA. Guessing that we will stay. So what will the other, current 1AA schools do? Depending on how that plays out we would then worry about the best league for YSU.

The crowd at the Montana NDSU game is fantasic, kudos to the Griz fans!

26,544 fans at the game and they have 19,000 season ticket holders. That's a lot of extra cash to pay for coaches.

Yes the Grizz atmosphere was good.  All this game showed me was Montana wasn’t overrated.  Plus we would lose to both teams.

We will never know.

Not a good showing so far for sure!

As bad as we played SDSU , we aren't as inept as Albany.  How did they win so many games.  Their QB is not good

We did look better then UA is looking tonight. It is too easy to not give YSU more credit.

So 35-0 at the half, time to look for a good Christmas movie, is Die Hard on?

Ziggy is out for tonight's game with a sprained ankle...doesn't appear to be anything serious.

May be a good game to miss

First ever meeting between the schools.  Bethany is 4-8 and are giving up over 91 a game on average.

This is Bethany's 3rd game in as many days, 4th in the last 5, and they play Saturday as well so that will be 5 games in 7 days...seems odd.  They lost to D1 Eastern Kentucky 121-56 on Saturday, beat D3 Grove City 84-70 Tuesday and lost to D2 117-81 last night.

Wish YSU could have found some other D1 schools to play, 4 non D1 games this year is way too many.  YSU though wasn't real crisp in their first 2 non D1 games; however, that was before Brett Thompson got inserted into the lineup and started playing well beginning with the Dayton game.

Listening the coach’s comments on his news conference, he said YSU had to find replacements (Bethany & another ream) when Niagara and Western Illinois pull out of schedule late. Western Illinois actual paid us $25000 to break the contract. Niagara dropped out because of  NCAA rule/procedure violations. He was appreciative that Bethany was gracious enough to step in playing the game.

good imfo, thanks

We offered this lb from Iowa St.  Heacock is the D coordinator

And he is making about 1 million a year, or just under.

Sagarin has YSU as the 10th highest 1AA school!

Interesting.    They will replace him with someone just ad good.

So far, they have been very good at that.

Some of these posts confound me.

I felt like we would win for many of our games this year, missed on UNI and did not think we would beat SIU.

Wolf did beat Pitt and NDSU but did we ever make the play-offs under him? I really do not recall.

Do not quite get the no Bison on our schedule thing, then assuming with the revamped schedule we would be 6-5. Are we to assume that the team not on that mythical schedule is a team we beat?

Then to make an argument that two teams we beat ISU and SIU are actually better then us. Maybe we are really better then UNI and SD
