YSU Penguin Athletics / post mortem for uni
« on: September 30, 2012, 09:20:09 PM »
Well I hope that uni has a great time counting their blood money.

If my simple mind is correct, there is no way they can get 7 D1 wins. So they would have to win the league and get the auto bid. Already lost to YSU and NDSU so both YSU and NDSU would have to lose 3 league games while uni wins out. Anything is possible but certainly a very long shot.

Heck as long as we run the table, the title would be ours, seed would not matter.

Hey nice win, and good luck Sat, but both teams have a long way to go before we have anything to brag about.

Hey we did you a favor last year. You got fired up after the loss and ran the table. Best watch out if you beat us this year, we just may do the same.

Do not know all the details and I am sure someone does, but my understanding is that since we added South Dakota the league was unbalanced. Every team does not play every other team each year - we do not play MSU for two years - so basically  instead of playing at MSU we get NDSU.

Wow, the trickle down effect on this type of thinking can really cause problems for FCS schools. Heck for sure the mac teams will suffer.

I like the banter, but it is a long season folks, no one is ready to be crowned for anything just yet. As YSU learned last year, this is a tough league - look past anyone and you are ripe for a loss.

We made $650k playing Ohio State. With Zippy's attendance, we might make $50k playing those Kangaroos at Akron. LOL

Only 2 ways I would play the zits again, either they agree to a home and home ( our place first because I do not trust them ) or they pay us at least $400,000.

Some people want to stand and cheer some do not, no big deal. At least they are at the game.

I am not offended when Wolf tries to get the crowd going.

>:Bottom line give the other team some credit UNI is a good football team and the QB is going to be a nightmare the rest of his career for opposing "D"s.  :o
Is he a good QB - yes. Is or will he be a great QB - to soon to say. A good OL will make any QB look better then he may be. He had plenty of time to throw.

I would like NDSU to win for two reasons. 1 - eliminate UNI from post season (barring the auto league pick). 2 - If they lose to UNI they will feel greater need to beat us.

I want NDSU to win but I think that UNI will win and it may not be close.

So who do we want to win this week?

If UNI loses can they still make the play-offs.

Do we want NDSU coming off a win or loss?

No, but if it will make Farley feel better he can bring his team back to Youngstown, suit them up, and have them stand on the sidelines. Fly in the head ref and have him explain it to Farley and then they can go home again.

Its over, move on.

MVFC Recognizes QB Kurt Hess as Offensive Player of the Week

QB Kurt Hess
Youngstown State junior quarterback Kurt Hess was recognized as the Missouri Valley Football Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Penguins' 42-35 win over UNI on Saturday.

Hess completed 20-of-28 passes for 290 yards and four touchdowns in the Penguins' come-from-behind win over the Panthers. It was YSU's first win over UNI since 2000.

Hess had two first-half touchdown passes and added two in the second half, including the game-winner with 1:50 left. In the first half, he had scoring throws of 25 and 38 yards. In the second half, he threw a 43-yarder and found Christian Bryan on a 26-yard score on third-and-three play with 1:50 remaining.

Hess was 6-of-7 in the fourth quarter for 77 yards and a perfect 3-of-3 for 49 yards on the final drive of the game.

South Dakota State's T.J. Lally was named the defensive player and the newcomer of the week. UNI kickoff returner/running back Carlos Anderson was tabbed the special teams player of the week.

The Penguins (4-0, 1-0) have a bye this week before an Oct. 6 trip to No. 1 ranked North Dakota State.

“I’m still waiting to find out what the penalty was,” said Farley. “Who was the pass interference on?”
We're still waiting on an explanation of the blocked field that was nulified in 2004, and the touchdown called back at the end of the game in 2006.  Join the club, coach.

good one
