I watched the game.  It is wishful thinking!

I did too, that fullback looks like a handful. I was just thinking in a typical year the Bison should beat a bad FBS team by 1-2 scores. But maybe Arizona is good

In other MVFC VS FBS games NDSU lost to Arizona, which is typically not a great program. Could be a sign that NDSU isn’t quite as elite as they typically are… but that might just be wishful thinking.

Old subject that has been beaten to death but still bugs me.

So many of our old peers, have moved up and done so well. We all know the long list.

Yesterday Appy beats Texas A&M, Marshall beats the Irish and we beat Dayton!

Oh Yea Georgia Southern beat Nebraska,

I mean we beat Pitt while still being FCS.

I think we just do not have the financial resources to go to FBS. Our region is not attracting more companies and thus more families and potential YSU students which is the main driving force for YSU income. Look at Poland schools as just one example of the lack of potential YSU students in our future. Need to work on improving our business climate to get more companies to want to locate here if you want YSU to grow to where we could think about FBS. Look at the trouble Akron U is having and their business climate is better than ours in my opinion. Remember Athletics is a losing proposition at all Ohio Universities except OSU when looking in financial terms.

That time has come and gone. We had a chance to get in MAC in 90’s, but the university could not made the financial commitment. So we were not selected.

Now, this valley has lost much of the major industrial companies who might be able to provide $$ to the university to get us there.

With falling enrollment and lack of a committed fan base (looking at the attendance from the first 2 games), there is almost no way for the university to increase the athletic budget to get us into FBS.

We can now only dream.

We now have a better chance to get us into the big dance in our basketball programs.
Despite the fact that these teams may pull the occasional upset, they’ll never have true relevance in the FBS world. I like the idea of local rivalries for us  in FBS but besides that I think it’s boring to never have a shot at playoffs or a real championship.

… I just don’t see much of a benefit in moving “up” and being a pretender FBS team like most of the MAC.

All I know is if we can't blow out a non-scholarship team we're going to be in trouble in the MVFC (See 2018 season)

That stupid Butler loss is going to be forever etched into my brain... it happened on my wedding day  :'(

For anyone who doesn’t know the NEC only allows 45 scholarships compared to the FCS division wide limit of 63.

I’m pretty optimistic. The 4 big losses we had last year we’re to UNI THE DSUs and a big ten school. Besides that we lost 2 by 3 points and blew one halftime lead. Not to mention all three teams we did beat made the playoffs.
We also played zero cupcake games last year.

I guess what I’m saying is we were pretty close to a .500 quality team in 21, so I could see this being a 7 win season at least

Just an FYI 125 is the roster limit for CFB in D1

The Duquesne game makes me very anxious.

When Duquesne beat Ohio last season, it was the Bobcats version of our "Butler fiasco."  Later in the year, Duquense lost to Sacred Heart and Saint Francis. They don't have enough talent to beat us; we can most a$$uredly beat ourselves.

Our coaches are recruiting much better than the lazy Pelini.  We are coming off this staff's first legitimate full off-season in the weight room. If the strength training has improved it should remedy our deficiencies on both lines.  I think that we have the skilled athletes to be pretty good.

Our Butler Fiasco was far worse than OU losing to Duquesne, Duquesne at least has 45 scholarships compared to Butlers 0….

But besides the point I’m not worried about Duquesne, certainly can’t overlook them, but they’re not in the same league as an MVFC opponent.

But also you’re right no easy games for us… I guess what I’m saying is anything short of an easy win makes me nervous

Joe Groeber - OL - 6'3 330lbs from University of Cincinnati. I believe he has 1 year left of eligibility.

Hopefully we see some more pipeline from UC to YSU in the future!

According to a friend who is a big UC fan, Groeber has the weight room squat record at UC. He’s an excellent pickup for the guins

I think the Tressel move to Florida will do everyone some good. Folks he has not coached here in over 20 years. The game is changed. We can no longer schedule our way into the post season, then reinvent ourselves. We have to play in a conference. So if you have to talk about "Tressel years" then you have no credibility. I will forget about this season on August 31, 2022, when the kicker's foot connects with the ball.. Just like I have forgotten about every season for the past 40-years. Your AD has nothing to do with the day-to-day performance aspect of our teams. I will remind you that Ron Strollo played in 3 championship games as a Penguin and think her does not feel the pain of a fan? Yet,  you people act like he does everything. So if you are upset about the performance of our teams, then as the staff.

Also, as I have said 100 times. NDSU is the "Ohio State" of North Dakota. Funds going to the state of ND are divided among 3 DI schools, with one not really even fielding competitive sports. Ohio has 16 DI programs, with ALL of them boasting scholarship athletics, 12 full-scholarship football.. Ask yourself an honest question. If both the Bison and the Buckeyes played each other at full strength, just what do you think the outcome would be? I seriously doubt that NDSU would even score a touchdown. ESPN thinks the same way, that is what potential viewers think.

Now if you want to hold Strollo to task for something, turn on your TV and watch the replay of our game on ESPN+.  Then send an email to the Department and ask him why I am watching the terrible Bison announcers call a PENGUIN HOME GAME. This is something I expect Strollo to tell me. Does the conference have that little respect for us, or can we not get a crew together? Either way I am ashamed and upset.

NDSU has won six straight games against FBS opponents, including Power 5 programs like Kansas, Minnesota, Kansas State and Iowa State... The 2021 Bison probably aren't as good as past teams and  They obviously wouldn't beat Ohio State, but I'm pretty sure they'd score and at least be competitive for a bit.

Ma$$ey computer rankings (which used to be part of the BCS, so it's fairly respectable) predicts the mathchup to be 37-14 Ohio State which I think is pretty fair. That ranking puts the current Bison at #65 in all of D1 Football which is just ahead of Maryland, Florida State, and Coastal Carolina

I have heard several names in reference to a split. RMU, EKU and Austin Peay are the names that continue to surface. That is a huge jump for RMU and APSU.

What do you mean? Split from what

The problem is where do we go? We’re on an FCS island. The nearby programs are only limited scholarship programs.

Agree. Although the one team/conference is going full scholarship. Something else to consider. I will NEVER be able to go to any kind of weekday games (MAC). Also people will not like the idea of no championship possibility, no matter if we know the teams or not. If we do not know the teams in the MVFC by now, it is our own fault and just do not care to know.

I think the conference split will help and YSU has to just stay the course.

Geography is kinda tough for us, it’s like why NDSU won’t go FBS… what conference would they join? They are really far away from everyone except for big ten or big twelve schools and NDSU doesn’t have the market size or facilities to make a jump to a P5 conference.

, I think a reckoning is coming in college football and now isn’t really a good time to move.
