Austin peay staidum doesn’t even have capacity for FBS minimum attendance reqs. You’re supposed to have 15k average and their stadium only holds 10k

I don’t think the NCAA cares at all about the lower levels of college sports. No money to be made.

They care. The VAST majority of their membership is not division 1 FBS institutions. A plurality of them are d3 actually

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Why they would choose us for the playoffs

I like the concept of auto-bids but I don't like limited and non scholarship conferences getting them. The nice thing about auto-bids is that it gives teams a clear path to the playoffs with no uncertainty. You win your conference and you're in the playoffs is nice.

I follow D3 football a lot and they have 27 auto bids and just 5 at-large selections, in can be frustrating for some of the better conferences but the vast majority of teams know exactly what they need to do to make the playoffs at the beginning of the season.

But... the system isn't what's keeping us out of the playoffs, our conferneces gets the most benefit of the doubt of any of them. In any given year you pretty much need to just be top half of the MVFC or better to get in. We really didn't deserve it this year.

YSU wasn't even close to making it we were 37th.   look forward to next year.  Lots of young talent.  WE NEED TO FIND A RUNNING BACK VIA TRANSFER PORTAL THOUGH AND A NEW DEF COORDINATOR.

1 more win and we’re in for sure IMO. That seems close to me

I vote stay the course, DP has the program moving in the right direction. After all the negativity at the beginning of the season were pretty much at the same place wolford had us at, which is on the verge of a playoff berth. Let’s see how next year goes

We won!!

ESPN had the score flipped for a few hours after the game. I came here to read the comments and it sounded like we lost, what a relief.

Dissapointing performance, from the sound of it, but any MVFC win is a good win

Since I went to the game, I had no idea what was said on the pre-game show. This information puts to rest the absurd notion that Tressel could be intimidated to select a coach at the whim of a donor. As president, Tressel has done much to fortify his legacy at YSU. Should Phillips work out in the long run it will be his last accomplishment.

I am as angry and disappointed as anybody, but a little historical perspective is in order.  Tressel actually inherited more talent from Narduzzi than Phillips did from Pelini. Yet he won two games in that first year, including the vital upset of Akron in the final game.  Then we snuck into the playoffs in his second year behind some unlikely last second wins.  But people forget that the third year was also a disaster.  It was not until 1989, the fourth year, that Tressel started to win consistently. And the competition that Tressel faced in the Ohio Valley (1986-87) and as an independent (1988-89) was way, way inferior to what Phillips confronts in the MVFC.

I hate the word "patience" too.  But there are no quick fixes to building a program "the right way" as penguinpower and others have noted. I suppose Phillips could have done what Petrino did at MSU, bring in 49 transfers and try to win immediately (as a ticket back to the big time for him.)  That worked a bit last season. How is that working for him in 2022?

Well it’s also a lot easier to bring in 49 transfers when you’re a former FBS and NFL coach who has some name recognition.

It’s sort of like Deion sanders at Jackson state, I’m sure he knows a ton about the Xs and Os but his recruiting advantage is massive as an extremely well know player

MEDIOCRITY has overcome this program.  We lose and we think we have found our new QB?  Sadly, there isn't a D1 QB on the current roster.  Our remaining schedule includes 3 home and 3 away games.  Sadly, another losing season is in the cards.  All the while James Madison enters the top 25 in FBS.

JMU ranked 25th in FBS. Wtf are we doing??

We’re much closer to an Akron or OU than JMU, JMU is much better funded than we are and have been for a while. Just because we used to play teams who are having “success” in the FBS level doesn’t mean much to me.

NDSU has been good enough to compete in the FBS for a long time but they don’t because it doesn’t make sense financially or logistically.

Also JMU will never get to compete for a national championship again…

Wooh!

Great drive YSU, gutsy call pays off. Great coaching. We punt it away there and the game is probably over

You know, people are going to not agree ...

But I think we blew the best opportunity to beat NDSU that we could have asked for. They are playing well below par, but we could not capitalize on offense. That last FG does not count, but we should have been able to score 24-points in that game. I mean our secondary is inept and the Bison could not get the ball out there. The Bison defense lined up not more than 6-yards off the LOS, for the entire first half because our QB was incapable of throwing the ball and our OC was not willing to put him under center to establish the run and play-action. We scored 14-point s with a QB that does not even get much (if any) practice all week. We keep the Bison out of the end-zone the entire second half. Two dropped INT's that we threw directly into the Bison defender's hands. I see three more challenging games on our schedule, starting this Saturday. UND, ILS and SIU are superior teams to what we played last Saturday. We will also struggle with SMS and  S. Dakota.

We need to stop looking at last Saturday's game as the "marker". We played an average football team. The difference is that the Bison coaches will learn and not make these same mistakes again. Our staff will continue to do what it has done for over a season now. Just so frustrating.  This is the point where I was ready to toss Tressel as well. Tressel did well with Duzzer's players & then he gave us just what we are seeing now. They still renewed his contract and we are all glad they did. Maybe the same thing is here with us now and we just have to be patient?

What? An “Average” FCS team can’t put up 300 yards of rushing against a P5 team… that’s what’s the Bison did the week before they played us…

But yes hopefully this is the downturn before this staff pulls it together, I think this week will be extremely informative

We need to give Mitch a try at least a few games under his belt.   Would have been nice if he could have started this game it could have been much different.   Oh well looks like another losing season at 5-6,

So far we’ve only lost to teams we should have lost to, we’ll find out how good this team is in the next stretch of games

It is amazing to me that the article stated that NDSU ranked 112 out 123 FCS teams in pa$$ing offense.
The difference is that they didn’t have to pa$$ and we couldn’t pa$$.

Yeah.. NDSU rushed for 283 yards, averaging 6.3 yds per carry against a Power 5 Team last week! That's why they only threw 12 pa$$es.

I'd also like to point out that the profanity filter on this board cracks me up,  my brain has just started replacing the 2 ss with $$ in all my football thoughts
