Here are the games note for Illinois State : https://ysusports.com/documents/2023/10/17/Game_Notes_vs_Illinois_State.pdf

It has a full two deep depth chart on it

Apparently Stats FCS is still called the STATS poll but The Analyst is where it's now housed.  Beta male probably bankrupted the former businesses because he took so many years of losses the IRS was going to stop him by forcing him to declare his work a hobby.

Anyhow take a look at this home page and tell me it's not biased. Exclude the headlines referring to the Poll Results because those articles aren't sports journalism, they are reported poll results.

https://theanalyst.com/sport/american-football/fcs/

See the east coast bias?  It's awful.  The dude probably sits in his mother's basement and writes articles without actually seeing the teams for himself.  And he's probably been doing it for years. Yet, he's some "authority" figure in FCS football.  Craig Haley doesn't know sh**.  He just runs narratives for the CAA because they need all the help they can get with the loss of the Gay Pride Streamers (JMU) leaving for FBS.

Man, you are really obsessed with the term “beta male”

Excellent win over a top 10 FCS opponent who also has a MAC win on their resume!

My only reservation is that we had a similar dominant win against SDSU in 2017… and that season ended horribly. Hope we can build on this momentum!!!

We always play down to our competition.   They have won a game against playoff team in St Francis of PA
Came back and won game handily.   Our pass defense is a concern rt now.    I see them keeping it close like Valparaiso did but we pull away in 4th quarter.

St. Francis is a "playoff team" but they only got in because they won the NEC. RMU should be able to beat a team with 20 fewer scholarships than they have.

But regardless we do tend to play down to our competition. I just think in the context of the MVFC this should be a cake walk.... if it isn't it's going to be a long season.

My prediction is 45 to 20 YSU.  Thoughts anyone???

That sounds about right to me , but I think 20 is a little high for them. Maybe 14-17.

Im' confused by your comments of of "We won't blow them out" 45-20 is pretty close to a blowout to me.

Robert Morris was 0-11 last year in their big south / OVC schedule... They also lost to non-scholarship Dayton.

They are not comparable to a bad MVFC team. I will be highly disappointed by anything less than a 3 TD win.

Brungard did a nice job in mop up duty.  Ran well and hit his passes.   Not sure why the no-confident from the board.   Won't argue but time will tell.

Unlike Crenshaw, Brungard has all the tools to be an effective dual threat quarterback on the FCS level. I'm really glad that we have him. His only weakness is his height. So logically, should he earn the starting job next season, structure the offense so he does not often have to throw out of a pocket.

Until we actually see him play a real FCS opponent I’m a bit skeptical. Mostly just because we haven’t had much luck with undersized dual threat QBs.

I say 42 to 17 final.  We will be competitive.

17 seems pretty high, I’d be ecstatic if we score over 10

Also 17-10 at half is embarrassing.

It’s looks like coach reminded them at halftime that they are essentially playing a d3 team.

Looking a bit better here so far in the second half. But... Losing Trowers for next week first half of Ohio State game for that targeting penalty is gonna be rough

No that’s a blessing in disguise. Less time to get injured.

Only successful result next week is low injuries

Phillips' comments about the availability of superior athletes coming out of high school rings true. Each scholarship that a G5 school spends on a P5 transfer pushes a high school kid down to FCS or even D2.

It is obvious that the high school kids that Phillips recruits are vastly superior to those that Pelini brought to campus. How much of that was the impact of the portal and how much of that was Pelini's lack of effort? I don't know but am very happy with the direction that Phillips has taken our program.

I agree, the DSUs  don’t rely on transfers they do an excellent developing local players and win with upperclassman who have been in their system for 3-4 years.

I think transfers are exciting… but they only transfer because they weren’t good enough at their old school.

I don't think we've had a good play since

The 2016 playoff semi finals catch to make the title game was a pretty good play… though it was only necessary because our HC didn’t understand clock management

Buffalo? That sounds like a lateral move to me.

Heard a rumor. Not sure if it is true. DP turned down a $700,000 offer from Fickell at Wisconsin to go coach up there. Not sure if the position that was offered but I can’t see him being a position coach. Maybe some administrative position. He did work with him when he was at UC so there may be some truth to it.

Go Guins.

He was the running backs coach at UC before he came here wasn’t he?

Related to this thread. What exactly are the benefits of moving up to FBS for us? The only thing I can think of is better regional rivalries. It would be fun to play like 4 other Ohio teams per year, outside of that I don’t see the appeal

ESPN+ is killing attendance for non-big time college sports events, just as over-the-air television cut Major League baseball attendance in half during the 1950s. For a modest yearly fee, casual fans sit in the comfort of their living rooms and watch a seemingly endless variety of games in HD on their smart tvs. Unfortunately, the days of 5,000 in Beeghly and 15,000 in Stambaugh are over.

Don’t forget generally population decline in the Mahoning valley as well
