I agree with all the complaints. But this is not the time to focus on anything except the football game. We know that the media has access to this site. I propose that in January we start a campaign to embarrass the athletic department to resolve the issue of senior parking.

The Duquesne quarterback is listed on their roster at 6' even. We should treat him like we did our friend Baker from SIU. His lack of height undoubtedly contributed significantly to his 18 interceptions.

I hope that the team is more focused today than many of us appear to be. It helps that this is Phillips first playoff game, and the first for all the players on the roster. It also helps that the Duquesne game last year was competitive. Of course Davidson was still on the bench and we were then a one-dimensional offense. Looking at how many points Duquesne gave up against weak opposition, it is hard to see how they stop us...unless we self-destruct.

We should beat them by 3 touchdowns.

I have to disagree on the helmets.  The Pete helmet is obnoxious.  I absolutely hate it.  I only support the traditional helmet.

This is a different Duquesne team than in the past. I think they are full scholarship now.

They are in fact still partial scholarship FCS. NEC as a conference still only allows 45 scholarships per team. In order for that to change the entire NEC conference has to change. That was why Bryant and Robert Morris left for the Big South a couple years ago. They wanted to invest into full fcs scholarship football (63 total full time equivalent scholarships)

My post wasn't pointed at you guinpen.  It was pointed at others, but your response triggered me to re-state this to the people that are doubters.  Time will tell if Phillips is the right coach, but based on our budget and the state of the program he inherited, he's done a fantastic job.

Looks like our league has 6 teams in the play-offs, 25 percent, impressive.

As I've been saying all year, we are in the best league.  We will do damage in the playoffs.  We have a very good team that's only going to get better.  Our coach has to develop both the kids and coaches, which is a tough job.  We are getting better every single year under Phillips. We are better than we were last year.  Time for people to put a cork in it.  We made the playoffs. Mission accomplished, but we cannot beat SDSU (yet).

Sacramento State, UT Martin and Western Carolina have all lost. All were potential at-large teams going into the weekend. What does this do to the equation for YSU?

It helps.  But we would certainly be in if Illinois State would have won but they missed something like 2 field goals and an extra point andost 21-20.

Here's the good news.  We beat SIU. And SIU has the same record
  In addition we played Ohio State who was ranked #1 or #2 or #3 depending on the week.

Lastly, all of our losses, except SDSU were close.

I think we've got a shot and a Duquesne matchup would likely be the first game.  Just my opinion

Murry state is 2-8 but has been in a few games this year.  I smell upset and the idea that we are playing for nothing but pride now.  Playoffs are a foregone conclusion that we will not make them even if we win 55-0 this coming saturday.  I call it like i see it.

Agree.  Can't see a 3 MVFC loss team getting in.  Hope I eat crow.

Old subject that has been beat to death on this board, but at least 3 auto bids on this guys list that are a joke to be in the playoffs.

Get humans out of the process along with autobids.

I totally agree.  YSUGO has been saying this for years.  Think about this for a moment, the winner of the Patriot League who is not serious about football and shares a conference commissioner, and has a limited number of scholarships (at least they did at one point) gets an autobid.  That's a total sc.  They will never be a true contender in the playoffs.  Never ever.. 


The whole playoff system is tainted by this problem.  Why? Because we were one of the last ones in the playoffs in 2016 and we beat everyone on our way to the title game.  Had  we not had 6 or kids test positive for marijuana (thanks for your leadership Pelini) we may have beaten the ambiguously gay dukes of JMU. My point here is that we played the most games of any team in college football, because we picked up an extra game in the play-in game and they added an extra week to the season that year.  Unless you get rid of the auto bids from conferences that will not be competitive, you will never truly know who the national champion is. It's why we play the games because anything could happen.

If we win next week at Murray State we are likely in the playoffs based on how the schedule will likely play out.  If we get in, we will do damage.  We will probably win the first 2 games.  That would mean we would finish in the top 8. 

If and when this does happen, I don't want to hear anymore bullsh** about the team and coach.  He's building a great program here.  Hes got to work with his coordinators and coaches.  They need development and that takes time.

Direct your anger at the AD for keeping Heacock who couldn't recruit but could coach.  For the record, dynasties are usually once in a lifetime events.  That's just reality

Power with the diluted conference schedule we should make the playoffs.  Wolford or Pelini never had this easy of conference schedule.
So if we go 5-3 we will either be the 4th or 5th best team in the conference. 
I know the top team the jackrabbits best Northern Iowa by 35 pts. We lost to them. 
I don’t know if Phillips is the answer but he needs a huge talent influx to get to the next level in our conference.
We will see.  But I said earlier in the year our D wasn’t great after I watched Ohio st and you said heck no we are so much better.  We aren’t on D and honestly that’s been our Achilles heal other than 2016. 
Murray St should be an easy win.  Then it’s up to the asshats that pick the teams. 


 

We are better on defense this year than we were last year.  Our problem is on the DL.  The secondary also has issues, but many of those issues are caused by the lack of pass rush.

Look at where we are statistically this year vs last year defensively. We are better, we're just not good enough to beat the top tier teams.  We need more recruiting on the DL and OL.  We have to be able to run the ball against anybody.

Here's what people need to keep in mind.....SDSU will not be the same team next year.  They graduate a ton of people.  I expect that there won't be such a dominant force in FCS next year.

I just at this years conference stats for D.  We finished 4th last year in conference. This year we are 8th plus we are giving up an extra point a game.  We have a weaker conference schedule.  So no we haven’t improved on D.

Rushing defense is improved and we played Ohio State in there too

I think that we are moving in the right direction with the program, not where we want to be yet but making progress. A few years ago, we would have been very happy with the year we have had so far.

A loss to that school down south, the top team in our division and two close losses on the road to a couple of good teams. Not bad!

Coaching staff still has some room to improve, a couple of games where I do not think that the team was ready to play at kick-off.

What amazes me is the negativity with some our fans. Will we make the play-offs, who knows. Past history is not on our side, but hope is better than despair.

Been going to games since the Polish Rifle, will be there next year.
