This is really a minor issue in my book.  It is not like he assulted someone, or got caught with drugs etc.

WARREN — A Youngstown State University defensive back was arrested and arraigned Tuesday on a traffic warrant from 2012.

Dale Peterman was arrested Tuesday morning and taken to the Trumbull County Jail. He was arraigned later that afternoon before Judge Thomas Gysegem of Warren Municipal Court on charges of possession of marijuana, speeding, driving under suspension and driving without a seat belt, all misdemeanors. He was released from the jail shortly after his arraignment on a personal-recognizance bond.

Court records show the charges were entered into the system May 15, 2012, and Peterman entered not-guilty pleas on May 18, 2012, but he did not show for his next court date. A judge issued a warrant for his arrest July 23, 2012.

Peterman’s next court date is 1:30 p.m. Aug. 27.

Peterman is a junior who played in all 11 games for the Penguins last season, according to the school’s website, and he played at Ursuline High School in Youngstown.

Peterman also had a failure-to-appear warrant for Girard Municipal Court for charges from Liberty police of driving under suspension, child restraint and improper display. Court records show those charges were entered Jan. 2 and Peterman pleaded not guilty to those charges Jan. 8, but he failed to show for a Feb. 13 court hearing. A warrant was issued for him on Feb. 14.

Court records show Peterman posted a $2,500 bond in that case and is due back in court at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 28.

Of course I should not complain, we could end up with Pete and Frank.

Funny!

About the change in wording, does not seem like a big deal to me

It iso generic and horrible. They should make it boys and girls. You could be rooting for the tennis team during a football game. It is horrible and wrong to have it changed.

Fight songs are traditional.  I just can't believe that they would change it.  I will not acknowledge the politically correct version.  they will need to come and knock down my door in Savannah if they see fit :D.

I am happy that you recognized the "issue", but not surprised because you are one of the best critical thinkers on this board.

Posted on the YSU web Site:  I was showing my kids the words and noticed something that was changed to be politically correct.  What a bunch of A-Holes...........!

What is wrong with this?  Any takers?

Happy,

I agree, but last year Hess was rushed quite a bit back there.  We could not run the ball well or pass the ball well against the best teams in the league.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Tressel to be in YSU HOF

Excellent news!

1944
Wick,

I remember that. Tressel  started in 86 correct?  We really didn't start making noise until what 1990?  We had the signature win over Ga Southern in 89 or 90?  And after that we were bad news to everyone. I don't remember what year that was, but that was when we alll knew that we had something special.

I thought we had the same thing happeneing when we beat NDSU at their dome, but then we regressed and lost so many games it kept us out of the playoffs.

I don't have any kind of feel for where we are 3 years into this.  I don't know if we are a top 25, top 15 top 10 or unranked. What I mena by that statement is what is the capability of this team?  We all know there is luck involved in games, but what is this team capable of doing in the area of leaving no doubt that they control the outcome of the game---that is what I want to know. I used to have a good feel for it. Even when Heacock was coaching, the team had the look of a playoff team in fall practice and I knew we would be going to the playoffs. 2006 was the last time the team had that look, however, at the time I did not realize that App state was so good and they used that WVU offense which was new at the time and blew us out.

Rambling on here a little, but where are we?  We cannot base where we are on last years players returning. This is an entirely different team, and we have lost a lot in my opinion.

Here is the other thing that bothers me. When Tressel and Heacock coached it seemed like it only took a couple of games before the defense settled in. I even remember Heacock saying that it doesn't take him long to get the defense ahead of the offense. This will be tresey's second year correct?  Well, I didn't see any improvment last year and he had a whole year. Making noise on 3rd down is not going to stop the other team.  I feel like that was what the formula was the last 2 years. Make noise on 3rd down. Why did we have a pass rush against NDSU and we couldn't reproduce that pass rush the rest of the year.

So what are the real expections of this team. I hear more ultimatums than I hear expectations. I agree that it has to be playoff or Wolford will be looking for a new job, but do we have the talent to get to playoffs or win a NC if the coaching is good enough?

In reality the Pitt game was somewhat of a fluke because they had a new coach, a new system, they had turmoil, it was the first game and pitt was outcoached.  Do we have our signature win?  This is really messy and unpredictable to me.

1945
I am ready for the team to start producing wins consistently. This is Wolford's team now. There aren't anymore tractors. There are no excuses for a defense that isn't at the top of the conference let alone the nation. I hope that Wolford has learned what we all know...Defense wins championships. The Bison look like the old Penguins on Defense. It would be great to be able to have that on display once again. I identify hard nosed defense with with Y-town and the local area.

No. What I'm saying is that every other school gets the benefit of the businesses that they support. Why should YSU be different.

Also architects are artists not engineers. Period.

1947
What I don't get is:

Ysu has a better Athletic program than Akron
YsU is probably closer to Kent in Athletics, except Kent is better at MBB and YSU is better at football.
YSU is a better university thank Kent because Kent is a liberal Arts college that mainly has make believe degrees ( or degrees that people end up with jobs where the persons farewell greeting in business transactions is "Do you want fries with that?"
Akron and YSU are similar in the area of education.
So YSU is the better school, especially if you want a decent degree and like football ( which is the only sport that matters).

Why can't we get the money?  We need to get it from the oil companies now. We need to partner the engineering dept with them. Make more petrochmical engineers and reach and make it their idea to reach into their pockets and give us the money.
We have the infrastructure and the tradition in football. We need the money becasue the fan base is tighter than 2 -coats of paint.

Here is my idea, but I doubt it will happen. For FOOTBALL only, go back to 1A and 1AA. And, since there are so many schools switching conferences, have what is now FBS/1A determine a set number of schools that will play at that level. The growing trend with the BCS Conferences is moving to 12-14 teams. Also, the non AQ Mountain West will be at 12 schools for football starting this fall, with the addition of Utah State and San Jose State. Hawaii is a member for football only, and the WAC will no longer have football starting this season. Not really sure if the Big East is deserving any more of being deemed a "BCS" Conference?

I think a good number might be 100-105 schools in this division? Go with the current BCS Conferences and Notre Dame, plus MWC and CUSA. Then take the best teams from the MAC and Sun Belt(although many Sun Belt teams are now moving to C-USA), and create a football only conference. BYU and ND can remain Independents. And, due to tradition, also keep Army and Navy in 1A.

The schools that do not make the cut, drop down to 1AA.

This would make 1AA a much higher quality of football. It gets rid of the perennial bottom feeders in 1A, that lose large sums of money. This solution would likely require the formation of at least 1-2 football only conferences in 1A. Could be a combination of schools from MAC, C-USA and a few from The Sun Belt.

Then, go back to 1A and 1AA for the names.

There are currently 124 teams in 1A/FBS, with GSU, Appy State and maybe a few more set to join. The vast majority of these schools have little shot at playing in a BCS Bowl, the soon to be FBS/1A playoffs or one of the remaining prominent bowl games?

Any thoughts on this idea?

I like the idea.  Thanks Paladin.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: What happened to the students?
« on: April 02, 2013, 05:42:46 AM »
I have never understood the lack of involvemnet from the students.  To expand on Wick's comments, I am one of the people that doesn't follow basketball.  I do, however, watch the tournament in march, but if I miss a few games or miss a few rounds......no big deal.  I don't record the games.

Perhaps I would be interested in watching more basketball if I felt that the team had a legitimate chance of making the tournament.  It seems that something always happens and we end up in the middle of the pack at best.

As I have stated before, football is the only sport that matters to me.  I could care less about all other sports to be honest.  It is not a slam on any of our athletes or anything, just the best college spectator sport IMOP and a sport that defines our athletic program, university, and region.  Plus, there aren't a million games like so many other sports so every game counts too.

In addition, basketball games happen at 7 o'clock on Tuesday nights in February.  I rather drink wine at home.  When I was in college, I was more into drinking wine with the ladies if you get my drift.
