In response to a question from some interviewer, Montgomery stated that we used about 15% of our playbook against Dayton.  I would expect about the same this week.  Of course, it would be nice if the offense executed that 15% much better this time.

I don't understadn why we wouldn't throw the book at every team.  That foces the opponent to practice defense against many many different plays.  Why would we hold back when you can force them to prepare for anything? i.e. Boise State

I watched the press conference from yesterday.

Go to www.youtube.com

then search for Youngstown State Athletics

It will show the Youngstown Stae channel.  Worth your while.  I tried to show the link the other day on here but the link will not take you to this specific location.

Anyhow,  our players know that they are playing down again.  My message to them is this:

No team is as good as they seem or bad as they seem they are somehwhere between.  Take this team seriously because if you are serious about making the playoffs down the road and you don't win the conference, the margin of victory will be helpful as style points to the committee regardless if it is not supposed to be a factor.  In order to be a champion you have to play like a champion every game and every single down.  Champions are never satisfied with their results either so don't get hung up patting yourself on the back when you achieve a key victory or season milestone (we hae seen this before), because the next game is going to be even more difficult.  As you get better the the target painted on you grows bigger so keep you heads down on the grinding stone and work.

AF,

Just some friendly advice.  This forum is not like the high school boards where 90% of the posters are uninformed.  The veterans here know a great deal about Youngstown State, FCS football, and the Horizon League.  So when you say something silly, for example, that YSU can make money from FCS playoff home games, don't be shocked when ValleyTalk or someone else calls you out on your mistake.  Hey, your opinions are welcome but don't present them as facts, and then get argumentative when someone corrects you.

Well first of all its not a mistake when its the truth, second i know more about YSU, FCS, and the MVC then most if not everyone around here, playing for YSU and still having connections in the AD will do that for you. You probably shouldn't call people out who know more then you, just a heads up

Do you really think you are the only poster on this board who has  connections within the Athletic Department?

Do you really think you are the only former player on this board?

Since you apparently have the answer, how much money did YSU make from the James Madison playoff game?  I don't know and my knowledge from back when YSU used to make the playoffs more than once a decade, was that YSU needed community support to make the bids to host games to keep from losing money.  It may well have changed, but knowing how much YSU made in 2006 would help to know.

If you don't know, then its not a FACT.  Its your opinion.

I know i have better connections then anyone else here. and its not a opinion when its correct

AFGuin don't let your connections blind you.

Right on stick. Also Michigan state's defense appears to be crushing. We can't get hurt before the november run and the line play needs to improve on both sides. We will need peterman to have a chance, otherwise we don't have the athletes in the secondary to be in the mix. I am very concerned about our OL and DL depth and experience level.  Things look less rosey since the Dayton game. We will nedd to run diffeent types of plays and Hess will need to improve his downfield passing game. UNI was making big play after big play against Iowa state.

There have been some excellent game performances by other FCS teams.  Northern Iowa is up 21-7 on Iowa State in the second.  Northern Iowa is averaging 11 yards per play on offense.

APP STATE IS PLAYING Montana on Espn3. Why do we have to play Morehead State when we could have a game like that?  I hate playing these lesser scholarship teams.  It is such a waste when 20-30% of the games we play are almost predetermined. What a waste of time.

Hess has on major flaw that makes him a system QB- he struggles with the downfield pass. He is not particularly accurate downfield. Majoe problem trying to stretch defenses.

Dantonio is one of the best coaches in college football. They have a fantastic defense. Dominant defense. The offense needs some worr but that is how he rolls. I don't see us having a chance. We can't even complete a pass against a PFL team at this point. The line is not playing well and they are inexperienced. This will spell doom for the O in the game.

Congrats to NDSU. They played hard every down and never gave up. Gutty perfromance to come back and win. They never belive they are out of a game. Bill Snyder said that the play ver, very hard. Hard not to love that.

We on the otherhand lose focus. Wtf? Lol!

I really like this kid. I am a new fan of his. I like what he has to say about the defense about how every man was confident they weren't getting into the engine on the goal line stand

I waited until I cooled off before commenting.  I recommend that course of action to everybody.  We coughed up the football seven times (two picks, two lost fumbles, three retained fumbles.)  Eliminate all or most of those errors and it becomes a 49-7 game and we are all a lot happier today.

Hess was bad but why this piling on?  He knows it, Wolford knows it, we all know it.  Regardless of Hess' performance, Nania must play one half against Morehead State and Duquesne.  That must be scripted and not dependent upon the score in any way.

I was upset with the defense only once last evening, because it duplicated a lack of focus that we have been enduring for far too long.  After we scored to lead 21-3 in the third quarter, we allowed that team to drive the length of the field for their touchdown.  An unacceptable letdown that must end.

The Dayton punter boomed his first kick.  Thereafter, Stubbs was ten yards too deep on each subsequent kick.  Most were short and then bounced away.  One he lunged at and fumbled.  That positioning error was entirely on the coaches.  However, as someone stated, in general the special teams were better.

Also Bellamy slowed down on that 80 yard run and as a result he didn't make it into the end zone. >:(

I talked with several people who claimed that the ticket office told them the game was sold out and also the website.  Friends of mine didn't make it until late in the 2nd quarter because they were told byYSU there were no tickets available.  Not sure where the information breakdown occurred.

They must work in the Union.
