YSU Penguin Athletics / Travis Williams Quote
« on: January 13, 2015, 11:25:26 PM »
Travis Williams had an interview/article done for him and he had an interesting quote on how he was handled:

Monte Gaddis: Tell me about your season.

Travis Williams: "This season went okay, didn’t go as good as my previous 3 years senior year coaches decide to play and underclassmen (Bam) which, he wasn’t a bad linebacker but the way the coaches did me was messed up. But at the same time I look at it as a blessing in disguise never looked at the negative side at how I was railroaded this season still did Great on special teams."

YSU Penguin Athletics / Press Conference Quotes:
« on: December 17, 2014, 11:38:10 AM »
Watching that press conference really got me excited about YSU football. Some interesting quotes he said that I heard.

-He said if he were looking to move in a couple years, he wouldn't have taken the job.

-Said he is looking forward to having his kids graduate from Cardinal Mooney

-Said he reached out to YSU to see if they had any interest in the job, finally knew he was coming here on Monday.

-Said he wants to get BUTTS IN THE SEATS and get this community excited about YSU football again

- Said he has had a lot of interest from coaches wanting to come here but will meet with current staff today

-They haven't finalized a contract yet, will iron out the details later on

-Said Tressel was a big reason why he took the job, wants to learn a lot from him, since he has an understanding of how to coach on this level

YSU Penguin Athletics / Basketball Season Starts Saturday
« on: November 13, 2014, 10:53:35 PM »
Women playing Niagra. Schlegel and Walker are gonna lead this team. Interested to see how the younger players fare early on in the season.

Men playing Kent to open it up. Starting lineup is Cole, Keene, Stewart, Amiker, and Hain.... Wow.
5-10, 5-11, 6-0, 6-5 and 6-10.... That means we have a 6-0 point guard playing small forward. Gonna be a long season for the men....

YSU Penguin Athletics / Offensive 2nd half adjustments
« on: November 08, 2014, 05:13:10 PM »
Including today...... This cannot be ignored any longer.... Yes, the defense is sub par. We all know this. But the last 2 years, in our biggest games. Notice a theme in the 2nd for our "historic and record setting offenses"...... It's unreal that this man keeps getting let off the hook!!!

YSU Penguin Athletics / Wheary cut from team
« on: October 14, 2014, 11:29:13 PM »
.......... See ya.

YOUNGSTOWN

A Youngstown State University football player punched a hole in a wall so hard he broke a waterline to a sprinkler system, flooding several rooms in his Wick Oval apartment complex, university police report.

Michael Wheary, 20, of Lakeland, Fla., was arraigned Tuesday in Youngstown Municipal Court via video hookup from the Mahoning County jail on a fourth-degree felony charge of vandalism. Judge Elizabeth Kobly set his bond at 10 percent of $2,500. He has a preliminary hearing set for 10:30 a.m. Nov. 20.

He also has been dismissed from the football team, is suspended from living in any university housing while his case is being investigated, and he can face disciplinary hearings, YSU spokesman Ron Cole said.

Cole said the flooding caused $90,000 in damage. Seven students had to be relocated to other residence halls because of damage to their apartments.

Wheary was a junior wide receiver for the Penguins but has not played this season since suffering a hamstring injury during preseason drills. He played in 11 games his freshman season and 10 last year. He had a total of 23 catches for 289 yards and a touchdown.

YSU football coach Eric Wolford said the decision to dismiss Wheary was a “no-brainer.”

We need to get healthy and in a HURRY! Only being 3 games in, this worries me. Especially because these guys are a big part of our season.....

Guys I noticed that are out:

LB Kevon Caffey
DB Eric Thompson
DB Nate Dortch
WR Andrew Williams
WR Michael Wheary

Also noticed D'Alesio went out with an ankle injury.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Travis Williams?
« on: September 13, 2014, 09:59:36 PM »
Travis must be in the dog house BIG time..... He's a senior, been here for 3 years and is our most talented defensive player, yet has not seen the field at LB yet this year. Is only playing on special teams. No idea why.....
