On knee braces. Evidence shows they shift the type of injury, also they do slow them up a bit. I would be in favor of wearing during camp, but then the players might not be comfortable at game-time. You see them in HS ball all of the time. Cost is between $300 and $600 a pair. My guess would be that YSU would not object to a player wearing them, but I understand that they do give a false sense of security.
This is a classic example of Slocum investing time and effort in case of a "rebound." He wants a cordial relationship with this kid just in case he becomes disillusioned with the "big time" school that he starts to attend. Good strategy, and it costs little.
Rain to stop by noonish. The front is to hit around 2:30-3:00, that will bring some wind and rain while it passes through. Moving about 60mph, so these conditions should only last for a bout 20-30 minutes. Sun by tailgate time!!! Should be a great crowd.
Wolf has said in an interview that he feels this OL will surprise us all. He even intimated that they may be better than last year. They are more athletic, more mobile, a tad smaller, but just as strong. Strickland is big and mobile! He seems to "get" offense but needs to learn a lot. Without the freshmen, and now Sinko, we are a little lean in depth at tackle.
The left side of the line looks solid, especially with Elkins at center. Bryant is big and is very athletic as we saw last year. Herdman was the #3 guard last year and backed up an all conference first teamer and a guy that we hope we will see in the NFL in the fall.
Herdman is very aggressive and athletic and is knocking a lot of people down.
Bell and Colucci are to backing up the left side, but there is a lot of interchanging of positions on the second team. Time will shake this out. Eisenhuth is backed up by Harris at RG and that seems to be an on-going battle for the starting spot. The young guys need to learn the offense and when they do...look out!
I will give a more in depth report on the DL after Saturday's scrimmage.
Change the name to Division 1 Spring and play in the Spring. No competition and you could play Thursday thru Monday Night. There are lots of new national sports channels that need programing.
I just really hope Strollo doesn't screw this new hire up
Why have you guys turned this thread into football finances? I never said football made money. I just stated the obvious: football at YSU will dominate the available money and then I suggested a way to produce more funding for basketball. Now back to women's hoops.
To comprehend the dangers of a "politically correct" coaching appointment, you need look no further than to the Horizon League this past season. There were four male coaches in women's basketball. Their teams finished 1, 2, 3 and 5 in the league standings. Obviously, the five female coaches finished 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9. Coincidence? I doubt it. There are good female basketball coaches, but their numbers are small. Affirmative action has propelled DI assistants into head coaching jobs for which they were unqualified (ex. Tisha Hill.) It has also advanced lower division head coaches into jobs in which they were overwhelmed (ex. Cindy Martin.) Fortunately, with Strollo's decade-long record of selecting head coaches, we have nothing to worry about.
