And what a piece of sh** stadium EIU is. The home side looks like a bad D2 high school stadium. They visitors side is 50 yards from the field and looks to sit maybe 500 people. Jackson Milton has a larger/more desirable visitor section.....

YSU Penguin Athletics / While watching Towson/EIU Quarterfinal Football
« on: December 13, 2013, 10:33:29 PM »
I'm watching this game.

Is it me, or do both those teams look a litlle bigger/stronger/faster/more skilled/more athletic. I'm sure if we compared rosters the heights, weights, and 40 times  would be damn near equal. Why do they look better?

Maybe it's because of the video production. ESPN showing it in HD with 10 cameras, versus WKBN using two cameras, and the Squashed TV screen on My YTV, which makes 6'7 , 310 pound YSU athletes look like they are 5'10" and 350lbs.

I dunno. I'm not trying to start anything here. These teams just look faster and stronger on TV tonight than we are :).

I will watch the national champ game if I don't have anything else going on............................like pulling out my fingernails with a pair of vise grips or dropping acid into my eyes.......................

I will root for Towson cause Reno Ferri coaches there.
What the he!! is a Reno Ferri?? Sounds like a boat you gamble on

Not to challenge you, but Reno Ferri is worthy of much respect. One of Mooney's best ever RB's/Athletes. But more importantly, I believed he attended, graduated and started for ARMY.

That's the "school" that graduates "student/Athletes" who are the best and brightest and who have no fear to give their lives for their country if asked to do so. They sign up for it.

Much respect from me to Coach Ferri :) fb

I'll be candid --

I've watched this level for several decades. I have now lost all interest in the division unless YSU is in. The committee shows over and over that they will deviate from the criteria they are supposed to use to select teams   . It appears they will use any excuse to eliminate YSU. no matter their record, no matter the quality of competition they played and no matter how high they are ranked in polls. Unless YSU gets the auto-bid, they won't get in ( and I suspect some will find a way to keep them out even at that. Cheating ? Tressel ? Ohio St. ? YSU ? ).

Not interested.

Your post is exceptionally well thought out and very interesting. I won't go into the argument of "is Wolford or Strollo to blame'. I worked with both to a degree for a short period of time. One is great, and gets it. That's all I'll say.

But there is no doubt in my mind that YSU is .......and has been..... one of the best 16 1-AA football teams over the last 3-4 years. Wolford deserves credit for that. So does Strollo who hired him. They should be in the playoffs, as the early round blowouts this upcoming weekend ..of "weak league" auto-matic champion qualifiers will clearly demonstrate.

YSU/Strollo/Wolford.....will get it done. Maybe just not in the manner and time frame that we all expect.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: How far are we from being a contender?
« on: November 23, 2013, 07:22:57 PM »
Until they stop playing finesse football and start to prioritize defense, they are quite far from contending for a title. They play like a Big 12 team. Have to win 50-48. That is gay football. Man up and kick someone in the face.

At the end of the day we had multiple opportunities to stop them on the last drive.  One play they went for it on 4th and 1 and their QB was in a shotgun and the lb's backed off the line and they converted.  The other opportunity was the pick that was thrown to # 8 and he didn't make the play.  The next opportunity was the big play Peterman made when he threw their QB down at the 43 knocking them out of fg range setting up the final opportunity not to allow the 1st down and we went into a soft zone and they completed the pass.  As bad as we played the rest of the game, we had the opportunity to win on that last drive and we didn't make a single play to stop them.  What does that say?

Prolly means we are a good 8-2 team that is not elite. Still a top 15 team in my mind.

What does everyone think about if YSU loses these last 2.  Do they deserve to be in??  I don't think so.

If they lose the last 2 games...........It's really two questions. 1) Do they "deserve" or have they "earned the right" to be in?.........probably not based on how voters think. And 2) Is YSU one of the best 24 teams in the FCS?.......probably yes. Probably one of the best 16 the last 3 years.., but because of their "Jekyll and Hyde" nature. they give voters every reason to leave them out.

How'd ya like to be the guy who has to sit next to Wolford on the bus/plane flight back home??

Whoever is required to do that isn't paid enough..

These Penquin teams under Wolf and company are the very definition of "Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde". They change from good to bad quickly, consistently and without warning. All programs have gone thru a year where they had a team like that. One that frustrated fans and left coaches scratching their heads. But this program and their teams have been like this EVERY YEAR.

So one can only assume there is a deep, inherent, underlying issue that is WRONG.

Anyone got a clue as to what/who that is?

We have a better than average team. Was that way in 2009....is that way now. Nothing this year shows me we are ready to win the conference or win more than 1 game in the "overly diluted" playoffs which by default, 20 teams make.

That's the reality of it. But then again, anything can happen in the next 6 weeks.

I have never heard of College Sports Madness.  I guess every American has a constitutional right to be ignorant and to demonstrate that quality over the internet.  If I hear any more talk about 0-9 vs. Dayton, I am going to puke.  Even Scalzo screwed that up in the Vindicator today when he stated that both YSU and Dayton were D2 during the last meeting in 1977.  For the benefit of young posters, Dayton held a huge scholarship advantage in each and every of those nine games.  They were in the top classification every time while we were first called "small college" and then D2.  Now, our 63 scholarships go up against their "need-based" grants.  27-20.  Right.  That will happen on the same day that Columbiana beats St. Ignatius.
