Villanova at #12 - you've got to be kidding me.

Recall this conversation between Lecter, nova75 and I last year - and the physical plant was nothing to write home about either.  Campus was beautiful, stadium wasn't much better than high school stadiums.

Me:

 Speaking of disappointing attendance

My son and I were down in Philly over the weekend, looking at a certain school on the Main Line.

A mostly cloudy day, mid-50's, no breeze.  Great weather for November 10.

#21 team at 6-3 hosting #9 at 7-2 on Senior Day.  I will give Nova's alma mater credit for announcing what looked to be close to the actual attendance - 6,617.  That total easily included more than 1,000 JMU fans.  I was shocked that there were not more people there.   We could not get a ticket to Friday night's sold out basketball game against Division II University of District Columbia - but plenty of football tickets available. - $15 tickets.

nova75

I agree. That has been going on since I went there. Waaaay too much going on in the Philly area. No one cares except families and football alumni. On a serious note, send me a private message if you need any insight on the school or the area.

Lecter

did some of the football fans dress in blazers and khakis?  Wives in plaid skirts?  Camembert and the delightful Chardonnay in the stands?   I hated that place to watch football.

Thanks 0505.  Let me try to get the master list updated later today or tonight if time permits. You've been doing a great job keeping this updated.

YSU outperforms the rating systems tonight with a 77-63 win

Nice job taking care of business.  DJ Cole stepped up with some great shooting tonight.

Some nice performances but really early in the season. As noted, not all teams have participated in a meet yet and no idea how many top performers competed in week one.  There are some talented athletes for YSU - hopefully they can stay high in the rankings and perhaps qualify for indoor Nationals.

I did not go looking for this guy.  But I do like to read Bob Hunter's weekly notes column each Friday.  I printed it to read at lunch and saw the second story about a councilman and ref.  So I'm starting to eat my lunch, finish the notes column and then pull out the ref story.  I about spit my food out when I realized who the story was about...

Wick,

I believe this is the official you were mentioning:

I agree - I was very surprised that fouls were not called on some of the blocked shots YSU had under the Green Bay basket late in the game - and the older official had baseline on those plays.

Congratulations to Coach Barnes and the team.  YSU now 3-0 in Horizon League for first time ever.  Given the way the season started, I didn't see this coming.

Green Bay now 8-7, clearly not what they have been but this is still a very good win.

51 fouls in the game - YSU shot 33 free throws.  Green Bay threw up 40 three point attempts.

I have never seen a game with so many offensive fouls called - most of which were NBA worthy flops.  Maybe I need to watch more women's basketball, but the officials were not very good IMO.

YSU (11-8, 2-2) will host Detroit Saturday night.

Detroit is 8-10, 1-2 in the Horizon heading in to a home game tonight against Valpo.  The Titans are 2-6 on the road this year

Detroit has one "good" win ( top 150 Pomeroy) - over 137 Rhode Island.  The Titans have two "bad" losses (to sub Pomeroy 200 teams) at South Alabama and at Bowling Green.

YSU has two "good" wins - 81 Cleveland State and 142 Eastern Kentucky and of course the two "bad" losses to 281 Austin Peay and at 212 UMKC.  Pomeroy has YSU ranked 141.

Pomeroy gives YSU a 73% chance of winning with a 79-72 projection.

Massey gives YSU a 69% chance of winning, projecting 80-75.

Sagarin's ratings make YSU a 7 point favorite at home.

The football coaches association is having their annual convention this week - across the street from where I work at the Indiana Convention Center.   Downtown Indy is crawling with coaches.

I suspect that Wolford will be interviewing coaches for the staff this week.  And the assistants who have been informed they will be let go are out looking for new work.

This ties in nicely with the end of January discussions on this thread - I've just been too dense to make the connection before walking around outside at lunch today.

Pete Rekstis

I love to help YSU guys.  But no way Rekstis can be hired given the circumstances of his departure at FIU.  He's too toxic right now.   You need a lot more goodwill than Wolford has to pull that off.   Don't need to distraction - and how do you send a coach accused of cocaine use out to recruit?  Parents would want no part of that - and your DC has to be able to recruit

Left work late tonight and was listening on the way home (Man I love I Heart Radio and Bluetooth).

Sounded like the place was rocking.  I think Robb Schmidt's voice cracked at the end.

Looking forward to seeing the highlights.

Tonight's game on TV.  MYYTV and STO, good for us who planned to be there (season tickets) but a very minor mishap prevents walking.  Some days are luckier than others.

GO PENGUINS

Take care of yourself Pita - minor mishaps are never minor when they happen to me.
