Interesting information, Cleveland.com has been looking at all the public schools.  It looks like Students subsidies equal -about 70% of revenue.  I haven’t seen where the other schools are at.  I think we are better than some of the MAC schools.

Carmen Bricillo joining NFL’s New England Patriots

By Brian Dzenis

bdzenis@vindy.com

The New England Patriots have added another piece from Youngstown State.

Penguins offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo is heading to the NFL as an assistant offensive line coach, multiple sources familiar with the matter said. He had been with YSU for the past nine seasons.

He joins former Penguin players Derek Rivers and Damoun Patterson in New England. The Mahoning Valley connections with the Patriots don’t end there as Cardinal Mooney and Ohio State graduate John Simon suited up for the Patriots as they won their sixth Super Bowl on Feb. 3, beating the Los Angeles Rams, 13-3. Simon is set to become a free agent in March.

Patriots head coach Bill Belicheck’s father, Steve, grew up in Struthers.

YSU athletic director Ron Strollo said he could neither confirm nor deny that Bricillo had left for the NFL. Head coach Bo Pelini did not return a call for comment on the matter. In his National Signing Day press conference on Wednesday, he was asked if he had spoken with Rivers and Patterson following the Super Bowl. Pelini said no, but said he took a phone call from Belicheck Wednesday morning, but did not provide specifics on what the call was about. The Patriots did not respond to requests for comment.

Bricillo joined the Penguins as part of former head coach Eric Wolford’s staff in 2010. He spent one season with Illinois and three with Akron before coming to Youngstown. During his tenure, YSU passed for at least 2,000 yards each season and cleared 2,000 yards rushing in all but one year. In 2018, guard Gavin Wiggins was a first-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection with center Vitas Hrynkiewicz taking second-team honors. Running back Tevin McCaster ran for a career-high 1,235 yards.

ONE MORE YEAR

Defensive end Justus Reed is receiving a sixth year of eligibility via a medical redshirt, the team confirmed Monday afternoon.

Reed tore his Achilles’ tendon last July, weeks before fall camp was set to start and missed the entire season. He transferred to YSU from Florida after spending three years with the Gators, including one redshirt year. He appeared in seven games for the Penguins in 2017, collecting 15 tackles, including five sacks. He was limited by an arm injury that year.

Reed is the second player in program history to get a sixth year. Former wideout Jelani Berassa was with the Penguins from 2009 through 2014, collecting two medical redshirts from knee injuries he suffered during fall camp in 2010 and 2012.

I haven’t watched a game and 2 years and I put it in today.   We look bad.  We can’t shoot.  We look like a play ground pick up team.  I don’t see one player that is truly a Div 1 starter.  I won’t be watching again!

Good coaches recruit, make adjustments in game, and game plan to their talent, and opponent.  YSU staff this year would get an F.  We are soooo behind the eight ball that a few little tweaks won’t be enough.  The line coach should be fired. Stoops should be fired, hell the all need fired. I hit the number on the nose on 4 wins this year.  I as a alum, former penguin club member who will not donate another dime till we completely overhaul the Athletic department, and the Football program.  We are in the Wrong conference, no rivalries to build a fan base.  I can go on and on.  1k in the stands for Senior day is unacceptable.  It needs to be fixed. IT starts at the top and the Athletic Dept. needs a new vision and house needs to cleaned. From marketing and deciding if the conferences we are in are really where we need to be.  If we can’t afford good coaches we will NEVER compete at a championship level.  We are out of home town discounts.  You lost me as a diehard yesterday I didn’t even watch it live I did holiday stuff. I haven’t even watched the tape yet.  If you lost a diehard like me why the hell would anybody else want to be a fan etc.  signed a distressed YSU fan!

YSU Penguin Athletics / Duzzer+Heacock+Pelini=mediocrity
« on: October 13, 2018, 06:14:43 PM »
Youngstown St football other than the Tressel years and a few years in the 70’s has been a mediocre program.  We are a joke. We need to totally clean out the athletic office as well as the coaching staff.  If this was a private business the fire sale would have begun.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Vindy article about 1993 championship season
« on: September 13, 2018, 10:24:33 PM »
Good article.  Everything they talk about is what is missing on current teams.  We were physical, mentally tough, had good defenses and special teams.  Tressel made a quote and says he went 9 or 10 championship games with 8 different QBs between the bucks and penguins. He said his staff prepared them and coached them to their individual talents.  That’s what the great ones do.  Boy where we spoiled by
