YSU Penguin Athletics / Even the Ice Castle is getting no respect..

55. Stambaugh Stadium..The Youngstown State Penguins are one of the premier teams in the FCS division of college football. The proof is in the four National Championships that the Penguins own. Youngstown is another rust belt city that is truly defined by the people that call it home; and this shows at YSU football games. The stadium itself is also a reflection of the city; perhaps it’s a little worn, but it can still get the job done on game day.  **10 spots  behind 45. Hansen Field (WIU) The atmosphere for Western Illinois football begins as you park your car and make your way through the tailgating. This is one destination where you definitely want to pack up the car and be ready to spend some quality time with purple and gold clad fans. You'll find enough tailgaters to make you think you may be at an FBS-level football game.
I've been to Hansen 3 times and can't remember any of that..  ::)

YSU Penguin Athletics / Stats.. anybody like em?
« on: November 17, 2013, 10:52:15 PM »
For the folks out there that thinks YSU's offense is top notch.. I'd say Statistics wise they're not much better than the defense compared to the rest of the FCS.. The one stat that sticks out in my mind is TOP.. YSU is 74th.. That right there tells me the suspect defense is on the field waaayyyy to much.

If I was a coach and played YSU I'd throw the ball 70 time's against them.. A 3rd grade all girls school could get it done on 8-20 yard routes LOL  :-X

YSU Penguin Athletics / Fire Montgomery Thred!
« on: November 16, 2013, 05:06:39 PM »
Seriously!! Are you Defense haters convinced that YSU can't get it done on offense against a well coached above .500 team??

#12's records are so skewed.. by the last 4 years of a weak OOC schedule against Jerry's Kids, the blind center and Amputee U.. It showed today when the 2nd string QB didn't have but 4 snaps +/- all year with the 1st 3 games in a blow out...

Just sayin  :o

Tressel to present 2013 Eddie Robinson Award
Philadelphia, PA (The Sports Network) - National championship-winning football coach Jim Tressel still keeps close ties to his roots. Those ties will bring him back to The Sports Network FCS Awards Banquet and Presentation.

Before he guided Ohio State to a perfect season and the BCS national title in 2002, Tressel led Youngstown State University to four national championship victories on the Division I-AA (now FCS) level. He was named the 1994 Eddie Robinson Award winner during one of the national championship seasons, and now he will present the same national coach of the year honors to the 2013 recipient at The Sports Network banquet on Dec. 16 to be held at the Sheraton Society Hill Hotel.

"I'm proud to be able to do it," Tressel said.

Tressel became the second Robinson Award recipient to lead his team to the FCS national championship when Youngstown State completed a 14-0-1 campaign in 1994. His squad opened with a playoff win over Alcorn State and Walter Payton Award winner Steve McNair, then followed the triumph with victories over Eastern Kentucky, Montana and Boise State.

Tressel departed Youngstown State with a 135-57-2 (.701) record, including 23-6 in the playoffs, to take the Ohio State head coaching reigns after the 2000 season. He compiled a 94-22 mark with the Buckeyes, with 10 bowl appearances and the 14-0 perfect season in 2002.

He currently serves as the vice president of school engagement at the University of Akron, where he began his coaching career as an assistant coach in 1974.

The Eddie Robinson Award, in its 27th year, will be voted on by a national panel of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries following the FCS regular season.

In addition to the Robinson Award, The Sports Network will present the Walter Payton, Buck Buchanan and Jerry Rice player awards on Dec. 16. The Payton Award honors the outstanding player in the FCS, the Buchanan Award is given to the outstanding defensive player in the FCS and the Rice Trophy goes to the FCS freshman of the year.
