Why wasn’t find a competent AD in the list of options?

All other options will result in failure until that happens.

If we make the playoffs OR DON’T then you need to bring Paladin back.

Fixed it! Bring back the best analyst YSU athletics has.

There are only 3 bubble teams with a higher SOS than YSU (per Massey). Based on record & SOS, YSU would be in. If you add in esoteric factors (regionalization, etc), then who knows.

Maybe Paladin I-AA should be allowed back to the board.  The evidence says he's been correct.  It's long overdue.  AND he's correct on the monster recruiting cla$$ that Phillips brought in this year.  He isn't projecting many wins because his a$$essment is also correct in that Phillips needs to shore up this cla$$ with another one or two behind it.

Take that for what it's worth.

The moderators of this forum should apologize to Paladin and beg for his return. His insights are more accurate and more interesting than any other contributor on this forum as well as the local media.

INDIANAPOLIS – The 2022 Horizon League Mascot Challenge wrapped up on Friday with Pete of Youngstown State defeating Oakland’s Grizz through fan voting on Instagram to earn the crown and successfully defend his 2020 title. Pete earned 53 percent of the vote in the championship round.

“Winning the first title was an unbelievable feeling, but I think this one is even more rewarding. It's true what they say, that defending a championship is always harder because every other mascot puts a target on your back. We were challenged in all three rounds, especially in the finals. Grizz is well-coached, worked hard and put up a great fight, but we prevailed behind our amazing fan base here in Youngstown,” said Pete after the victory. “Penguin Nation is the best, and I can't wait to see our fans again when our fall sports begin next month. Thank you to the Horizon League for running another great contest, and we look forward to going for a "Three-Pete" at the next Mascot Challenge!”

Prior to the championship round, Pete earned 61 percent of the votes to defeat Milwaukee’s Pounce in the semifinals to punch his ticket to the final round. Pete also bested Northern Kentucky’s Victor E. Viking in the quarterfinals.

Thanks, Pete, and congrats!

When I went to school in DC and wore YSU apparel, friends would call him, "Pete the pissed off penguin."

In the 80’s, I saw YSU’s Cliff Stoudt play for Birmingham at that same stadium (Legion Field).

I read that the Maulers only sell out of Three Rivers was when Stoudt returned there with the Stallions. Apparently, he was heckled the entire 60 minutes and was pelted with snowballs.

The USFL playoffs are this Saturday, and YSU alumni/ former player David Rivers III, who now plays for the NJ Generals, play the Philadelphia Stars at 3 pm on FOX. The game will be played in Canton.

The Generals (as they were in the 1980s) are the dominant team in the league.

Rivers' HC is Mike Riley, who was Pelini's replacement at Nebraska. The Generals have multiple MVFC players on its roster.

The USFL has some nice additions to the rulebook including a 3-point conversion, and the option to run a 4th and 12 on your 33 yard line instead of an onside kick.  The 1980s USFL was innovative and the first pro FB league to offer a 2-point conversion. Many teams had exceptional talent including Trump's NJ Generals that had Heisman winners Herchsel Walker and Doug Flutie.

The other Penguin in the USFL, Charles Baldwin, played for the worst team, the Pittsburgh Maulers. The team was originally owned by Youngstown's DeBartolo and the name was inspired by his chain of malls.

The USFL championship will also be in Canton, on July 3rd, and will also be televised on FOX. Likely Rivers will be playing in the championship game as NJ has already defeated the Stars twice this season.

Valpo?  Can my sister take some snaps?

The margin of victory will be greater in the Valpo game than the margin of defeat in the Shoe. If not, YSU is now officially an Olympic Sports school.

So we get $800k plus benefits with TOSU, and pay $115K plus earn gate lol and and loge/ads/sales. Isn’t Strollo an accountant?

RMU….almost another Butler fiasco in 2015 under the rapist recruiter. DP is an upgrade (my Aunt Sara would be an upgrade) from Bozo, so this should be a comfortable win.

It’s interesting that an FCS opponent was chosen to replace an FBS opponent.

https://www.cleveland.com/osu/2022/04/ohio-state-football-schedules-youngstown-state-for-2023-replacing-san-jose-state.html

Both of the losses to the Buckeyes were with a HC that could never even beat UNI.

During one of those games, the most legendary FCS Over FBS upset ever occurred (App St over MI).

I’ll also add to my list above that, with Wolf’s recruits, we were also beating WVU in 2016.

On 9/9/23, two D1 programs will play. If we have deteriorated to the extent that we are incapable of fielding a team without being disgraced, then maybe we aren’t a D1 program.

This is how you become the “Team of the 20s.”

Big risk. Big reward. Small risk....

I get the negativity. Strollo is an incompetent who has infused a loser stench into the legendary program he inherited. But maybe things can turn around despite his sabotage.

I'll add that with the watering down of the conference schedule with the addition of the hapless, underachieving doormat referred to as Murray St....we can tolerate, and frankly need, an upgraded OOC SOS.

12
Fantastic news.

These high profile games must help recruiting of both student-athletes and enrollment in general, expand the fanbase, as well as add revenue for the athletic department.

Each OOC schedule should have one P5 $$$ game, one G5 $ game (preferably Ohio MAC), and one home red meat game (such as a Butler  :D ). A four game OOC schedule should have 2 P5 games.

When we had the Wolf, a legit FCS HC, we beat Pitt, were beating Penn St in his first game as HC, and were beating Sparty in Q3 until the butt punt. I still talk about that Pitt game. These games are opportunities to elevate the University and program on so many levels.

It is madness to not have the Dakota Marker game annually, or any of the Dakota inter/intra-state rivalries. Playing it OOC would deprive these schools of either a money game or a red meat game.

Will Murray, a team that hasn't been in the playoffs for 20 years, and only had one FCS playoff win ever, hurt current members ability to get at-large playoff bids by watering down the conference SOS?

If we're scavenging for OVC roadkill, why not go after Eastern IL, which would immediately have natural rivals, is a better geographic fit, and has been in the FCS playoffs seven times since Murray's last appearance?

Murray's acceptance to the MVFC was likely only due to their acceptance into the MVC for other sports.

Interesting also that their HC is Dean Hood, who was a candidate for the YSU job before the dumpster fire became HC.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Wofford up next for YSU MBB
« on: March 20, 2022, 10:20:11 AM »
One of the best judges of character are who you surround yourself with. YSU should've protected its brand and not associated with this "tournament," unless, of course, YSU's brand has deteriorated to this level.

Maybe all Ohio D1 MBB (and even WBB) programs start a "Buckeye Madness" tournament, where you take 8 (or 4) teams that didn't qualify for the NCAA or NIT and even pick a charity to benefit (much like the Coaches vs Cancer games).

Or just sit it out rather than play in cringy, sketchy "tournaments." End the season with dignity.

I must admit I am curious to see where the wreckage lands and will follow it with a morbid curiosity.

The 404 error codes are now gone from the social activist website....so there's that......

It was just posted that our women are hosting Kent State in the WNIT on Wednesday at 5:30.  That starting time can only mean a doubleheader with the men.

I had thought a matchup with Kent State was possible for the men's, but I see Kent State is headed to Southern Utah.  Where did you see the time of 5:30 posted?

IDK the criteria for first round pairings, but it seems like Can't at YSU MBB would've increased hype and attendance (for both the WBB and MBB games), as well as been a more logistically sensible option.
