YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Spring Game

Spring game is too scripted to care about IMO.
It is an over glorified scrimmage. Just wait till Training Camp to watch those.

I look at YSU as a local university that supports local programs - especially in the olympic and non revenue sports.  Please, someone tell me how many men's swimming and women's lacrosse teams there are in the Northeast Ohio area?  There are not enough student athletes in those sports to locally support those programs. Wrestling on the other hand is supported by numerous schools in the area with some of the best wrestling in Ohio - besides the Catholic Cleveland schools.  Who from this area is going to go support women's lacrosse?  Men's swimming?  Someone please send me a pic of the crowd at the first home women's lacrosse game and men's swimming meet.  If YSU had a wrestling program, I can guarantee it would be supported by local wrestling programs - from youth to high school.  Canfield, Austintown, Boardman, Girard, West Branch, Beaver Local, etc...all have top notch wrestling programs.  That does not include the rest of the EOWL (Eastern Ohio Wrestling League) that goes from Ashtabula to Lousiville to Wellsville.  Those schools alone could supply enough wrestlers to have a program.  Title IX has destroyed wrestling programs throughout the country.  It has increased women's programs, no doubt, but at the expense of wrestling.  Another big mistake by the YSU athletic department that is out of touch with the local area athletes.

You ever think it's not necessarily about the 'local' recruits? But more so about getting more 'national' and 'international' recruits?

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Pelini Contract

We can go back and forth about assitant coaches all day long. Who had better ones, whose were worse. At the end of the day Pelini made it to the NC with almost all of Wolfs players and has done NOTHING with his guys.

Does Alabama complain about their OOC schedule?

I played for Wolford (not Pelini). From my observations, it seems as if Wolford was one heck of a recruiter (top notch), and Pelini is one heck of a coach. Unfortunately you typically don't get both. Look at when we were in the FCS Championship (most of the players were Wolf's) but were coached by Pelini. A lot also has to be said about the assistants. Wolf could recruit them as well (Mangino for example), unfortunately is seems that Pelini seems to be lacking in that department as well.
Just some food for thought as they both are local guys with the same 'local homeboys'.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: When are we going to make a FG?

Time to recruit some JUCO kickers.  The last one we had was really good.  These local kids don't seem to be that great.

That's all they should recruit!!!
Look at the 2 kickers before Kennedy, Cejudo and Brown. Both had very good careers. Granted they kicked for Wolford who never kicked a FG.

The reason the board looks grainy is because the kicking net was up and that causes a grainy effect to appear.
As for the sunlight hitting the board making it tough to see... That's going to happen no matter what kind of video board we put up there just because of the positioning, that is something that sports teams always have trouble with.
In case anybody forgot, they also updated the South Endzone scoreboard... With the new videoboard, they are also able to put the score right on the screen (that's what new technology does for you, it simplifies everything). You can put rosters up there while showing the game, while also having the traditional box score. It's very simple and the new video board looks great!

Somewhat of a battle between McFadden and Kennedy for the starting kicking job (but no real winner for the fans there)
Somewhat of a battle between Kennedy and Sheely for the starting punting job (but no real winner for the fans there)
Somewhat of a battle between McFadden, Kennedy and Sheely for the starting kickoff job (but no real winner for the fans there)
Somewhat of a battle between newcomer Steven Wethli and Kuhn for the starting long snapping job (but no real winner for the fans there)

Catch a theme occurring here with our Specialists?

This has been something we have taken for granted the past couple of years with Liste, Cejudo, Gibbs and even Brown. Make sure to take some Advil on 4th downs this year because it may cause a multitude of headaches for fans.

Remember when I first stated that these upgrades were coming and EVERYBODY said I was crazy...???
Well looks like some people have the inside scoop and others don't

If basketball is your only measurement of how well a team is doing in the conference, then you do not belong in the fandom of college athletics.
Take a look at track & field, cross country, W tennis, W golf, W basketball, softball and even though its hard to say baseball last year. All of the other sports are excelling in the Horizon league.
You can't justify leaving the Horizon league when there is only 1 or 2 sports that are not playing to the competition, when the majority of the sports are excelling.

Everybody please give credit where credit is due!!!!

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Spring Ball
« on: February 23, 2015, 11:32:12 AM »
Kenneth Durden is eligible to play now so that will be an upgrade at CB, and Nate Dortch is a very underrated corner. They both will be very tough for opposing quarterbacks to throw at especially with an upgraded corner coach. With having Jameel Smith coming back at Safety there is some uncertainty there, but not as much as having an unproven player come in. So I feel that we will be fine in those areas.

When spring ball starts on March 17(St. Patricks Day), who will be the biggest surprises and letdowns of spring? Especially with some of the new players and players having to step up into bigger roles such as Jacob Wood (TE), Cole Newsome (Center), and Itavious Hrvin (WR).

Is there a reason why Moore was used mostly in the Illinois game and NDSU game?
I feel that he should have been utilized more in the 3rd down situations every game when we would call the Dive with Martin or Nate Adams. Especially with Ryan Moore averaging almost 6ypc.

I have been told that preparation for the new scoreboard will take place during the spring and construction will take place during the summer. The new scoreboard will be comparable to those of Illinois State and South Dakota State.
