Watched Northern Kentuckyís head coach Darrin Hornís comments following his victory over YSU. Before Horn took any questions, he congratulated YSU on their season and said emphatically that Jarrod Calhoun was the deserving Coach of the Year. He said YSU should extend his contract and give him a large raise for the job he has done at YSU.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Slocum best coach since Peters
« on: March 02, 2022, 11:57:37 PM »
After another disappointing season, I have to conclude that Jerry Slocum has been the best YSU hoops coach since Dan Peters. I reviewed the Sagarin Ratings for the last 25 years. In Slocumís years the Horizon League was ranked so much higher than it is ranked now. It was the 12th highest rated in 2010 and 10th highest rated in 2010. The Horizon is the 24th now. Butler, Loyola of Chicago, Valpo have been replaced by low-ranked teams. Also Iím trying to remember any signature wins in the last 25 years. At the top of my head, I can only think of YSUís win over NCAA runner-up Butler, their win at Kent State and their win over Georgia on ESPN2. All under Slocum. Slocum also had a budget that was probably half of what Calhoun has had to work with.

Marcus Keene, the YSU guard who transferred to Central Michigan last season, leads the NCAA in scoring averaging 31 points a game. In his last two games, Keene scored 40 against Wisconsin-Green Bay and 25 against Illinois. He's shooting 43.8 from 3-point land, 52.5 from the field and 83.8 from the foul line. He averaged 15.6 for the Penguins as a sophomore in 2015 before transferring.
