we don't have the money and will never have the money for a move to FBS adequately. everyone here really wants to be the next akron or kent and akron isn't at the height of its glory days financially as an institution. it's not all just administrative cost issues for YSU either as many would like to argue. there is an old saying in business, you can't cut your way to solvency.

We are a small city institution and thinking we can even afford to go MAC and not incur yearly increasing debt while continuing to exist in basically the same sphere of exposure and interest as the MVFC is silly.

i would agree but also consider NDSU is about the only legit game in that state if you don't receive a scholly from a bigger out of state school. they don't have as much competition when recruiting locally or statewide at the FCS level. in the valley (and ohio) you have a far greater pool of bigger colleges that can recruit so arguably YSU will have a harder time attracting talented local or state native athletes.

"everybody says" where have i heard that before? not saying it cant happen but the probability is incredibly slim. rather, you are more likely to get a false positive OR negative due to sample quality issues or flaws in testing which, incidentally, can happen in any medical testing not done properly. this also doesnt account for the accuracy or dependability of the test being used.

so i guess, proof please and enough with this nonsense on a sports forum.

incidentally, most, if not all ohio HS seasons have been truncated in the number of games and only immediate family will be allowed to attend, with the schools determining if they will play and what other safety protocol will be in place. i guess you could argue HS sports will be easier to execute and monitor then college but rest assured that the moment a student tests positive you will see postponements or seasons ending.

i'd still rather wait until next fall and have the teams take the extra time to coach/learn/practice and not risk injuries trying to play in the spring and then the fall. that's just going to be physically demanding for players on top of spring and fall classes.

the downside are seniors who would graduate and lose their final season or potential look before the 2021 combine and draft. not sure there is a decent workaround for all of that.

The reason the MVFC cancelled is because the NCAA said that if a certain percentage of schools cancelled their seasons there would not be a playoff. First the pussified Ivy League cancelled, then the NEC, Pioneer League etc. When the Big Fluffy Sky finally cancelled championships were not going to be held. The MVFC asked the athletes at the schools in the conference if they wanted to play the season without a championship.  The athletes said hell no, we want a championship.  The MVFC said the best chance for that to happen is if the season is moved to the spring.

Let's be rational here. There will likely be no spring football. Players need the off-season to heal from injuries.  This time will be shortened. The schedule will have to be completely re-tooled because the playoffs take up several weeks plus the regular season. They would have to have the championship by April 1st to give them 3 months off before reporting to fall camp a$$uming that would be July 1.  That means they would have to start the season January 1, and  finish with playoffs April 1st. That's like an 8 game season with no bye weeks or money games before the championship start. It is possible that there would be multiple conference co-champions.

The worst part is that the athletes would not have much time to rest and recover between the seasons.  Injuries with 6-12 month recovery periods would prevent a player from playing in the fall. The risk for more serious injury would also likely be higher in the fall due to shortened recovery times.

The only way for spring to work would be to also move and shorten the fall season as well.

People are stupid and do not make decisions based in facts. The mortality rate of this disease is now down below the H1N1 rates and declining. Hospitalizations nationwide are around 1,200 people. The doctors have treatments for people and are saving people with comorbidities.  The elderly over 74 are still at the highest risk. From a statistical standpoint this disease is really an age related disease. Yes, there are people the die at younger ages, but that can be said with all diseases. The kids that are playing sports are at very low risk of death. They want to play and the fans want to see them play.  People should be given the decision to both participate and attend the games. If you feel you need to stay home, then so be it, but the decision making by the NCAA to take away the championship is total bullsh** and is unacceptable. 

What really burns me up is that the people making the decisions are making them because they know what is best for you. Leftists want to control outcomes at the expense of the rights of the individual and this is a perfect example of this repeated pattern throughout history.  Many of the academic people at the President level whom are making these decisions are Confucius disciples.  As a result they rarely rely on making decisions based on reasoned argument, but rather ethical ideals that are conveyed through allusion, innuendo, and tautology.  It is essentially a form of group-think among them. I just call it Marxist because their decisions essentially manifest the same way as they would in Marxist societies- the ruling cla$$ controls what happens and you don't  get to make any decisions because that freedom is taken from your control. 

If the spring season is played it will f*** up 2 seasons. I say play now or skip this season and start over next year. Our ancestors that went through the Spanish flu of 1918 would probably see people today as soft pussified cowards. They dealt with a disease that had a higher mortality rate and went on with their lives, which included attending games with masks.  I know that you could argue that the effects of WW1 and the governments response would have made it that way back then due to WW1 implications of disseminating information. However in current times,  if a Democrat was up for re-election with this disease and a mortality rate below the Spanish flu it would not be a front and center and would be justified using the current mortality and hospitalization rates that are now below the levels of benchmark plagues

cant see this happening. most FCS teams would have to forfeit their "money game" and for better or worse many of these institutions rely on that money. Also, as stated above, most of us don't want changes to 'tradition' and at least for me, the idea football in the spring just doesn't sound exciting.

If the FCS has trouble bringing in viewership during the fall season, i can't imagine spring play moving the needle. i'd say it would probably be the opposite because now you are going up against baseball and to avoid the potential for heat exhaustion playing into the in the summer, you'd probably want to start your season in the beginning of march which now you are also competing with basketball and the college tourney.

Also, when would teams "spring" game and training be? most likely the dead of winter which limits outdoors training and potential eligibility issues for transfers between bcs and fcs based on what time of year the transfer happens. but that's all conjecture on my part.

couple of things:

flu mortality rate is .1% per infected seasonally. 34,000 deaths/35,000,000 infected (2018-2019)

covid 19 mortality rate is 3% per infected, not .3% 160,000 deaths/4,000,000 infected (estimated as of today)

secondly, postponing the season has nothing to due with the first amendment. not by a long shot. institutions taking measures to insure public health in no way is connected to anything protected by the first amendment.

say what you want about DeWine, but he is not congress inacting any laws prohibiting you from practicing your faith or criticizing the government. again postponing the season has nothing to due with any of the freedoms protected by the first amendment. not even barely related.

if you don't like the season being postponed, the first amendment does guarantee you the right to go downtown and protest YSU.

if by enforcing the law you mean if a decision is made through the courts whether or not actions impede on free speech, i'll concede that. but it doesn't mean a police officer is going to ticket you for not allowing someone to come into your institution, home or business and promote thoughts or actions you do not agree with.

one of us has provided information to back their claim up and show the incongruity to the others. one statement has been at least supported from multiple third parties explaining the exact intent of the point of discussion.

there is a lot of great supporting information out there regarding what I've already provided but I generally don't like relying on think pieces or anecdotal evidence to support arguments. if that were the case I could just tell you you're wrong this is how it is because I say so and provide NO corroborating information.

all you have basically said was," im right you're wrong, im taking my ball and going home" so have a good day.

no institution or business is obligated to give platform to ideals or actions that does not represent their institutional ideals especially if it breaks a defined terms of service. we all have the right to say what we want and we all have the right to not provide a soundboard for it.

one sticky situation this creates are businesses that deny services based on religious or personal beliefs that equate to discrimination and cry "but freedom of speech!" which conflates two opposing viewpoints and gives credence to the notion that discrimination is an innate right protected by law. this is why equal opportunity laws and other similar legislation exist.

wow. a few terrible old man takes in this thread.

not sure where teachers and corresponding unions are the reason institutions of learning are the cause of current social ills. to be fair, YSU is one of the biggest proponents and drivers to many of ytowns recent positive developments. as a college graduate, i missed the class on playing dirty with tax money but i was a design major, so there is that.

also, you all do realize freedom of speech refers to the government using its power to suppress people or institutions through policy, force or modern day extortion by threatening to withhold funding?

if the majority of a student body or faculty do not want, say as an example, white nationalists or fascists to speak on campus, they have every right to not have them. you should teach what these "ideals" are not encourage or welcome them into conversation and validation through "seeing both sides".

or is the idea of equality and opportunity for all of us and not just some of us what truly makes you angry?
