I figured today would be a small crowd and small tailgate.  With that said, there is waaaay less people in the M70 lot than I though there would be. lol.  GO GUINS!!!  And keep Pete on the helmet!!!

Nobody is interested in watching a team that doesn’t belong in the playoffs play a glorified Division III team.
Wouldn't have got over 5k tonite no matter who we played imho.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Illinois State Week

I'm sorry, but Phillips has had plenty of ample time to turn the program around period. Let's all stop Using that excuse of the covid year everybody had it. Defense was pathetic and I see it not getting any better.  we need a new defensive coordinator a new scheme, or something.
we are in the middle of the 3rd season.  His handicap is that he stated with NOTHING.  It's a complete rebuild.  Listen to Mark Farley's comments about YSU.  He said that since Phillips has arrived Youngstown has returned to looking like a Missouri Valley team.  He said that it's been several years since we've had the players to match up.  He also said that YSU has this"will" about them to win games like we did in years past.

The roster is young. The guy has had 2 seasons, one of which was abbreviated. He's in the midst of his 3rd year and we are ready to fire him?  He doesn't even have his full roster playing yet.

I find these kinds of remarks unfair and incoherent.  Name someone that would be a better replacement that we could get on our budget.

If we doesn't win in year 5, then you can get critical.  What he and the team need is support.

Look at the improvement in the national statistics.  You think Pelini was great?  He sucked at recruiting, which is 85% of the way you win.  He used Wolford's recruits to win and then the sharp drop off came because his recruiting sucked ass.

Games in the Missouri Valley Football Conference are not going to always go as you think.  People are ridiculous.

Unbelievable.

Who fired a coach after 3 years when significant progress is being made.

We have inexperienced coaches and inexperienced players.  That can be fixed.  As I've stated before, donate to the program for better assistant coaches if you want to see that kind of change.  The head coach is doing a fine job.  But it's ultimately up to the kids to clean up the critical penalties.

Northwestern is terrible but they sure didn't look bad to me against Ohio State!

Amazing--he set that mark as a 10th grader!

Marrow was recently named assistant HC at Kentucky with a salary of $650k. Is a head coaching job at a lower level worth that kind of a pay cut?
Seems to me you are serious or your're not serious.  We pay him 500K minimum if we feel we want to compete, otherwise we look at what we can afford. IE. Carl.

I hope we don’t pay someone 500k to coach here, apparently we just had a head coach worth 2 million a year and that got us a lot of mediocrity
We won't pay anywhere near 500k for any coach--possible Marrow would take it although I don't believe any coach in the US making in the neighborhood of 625k would take such a drastic pay cut to coach here.

I was anxious to hear the nuggets but the sound on my computer was to low to catch much of anything. :(

BTW: I do not mean to disrespect SeMO for being in the post-season, they did play well late in the season.
They were ranked #12--a helluva lot higher than YSU and still lost to a team without a QB--that's why they play the game instead of using projected statistics! ;)

We definitely weren't a top 5 team--we were more like a bi-polar team, some weeks playing "lights out "and some weeks playing  like "who cares?"

Of course Ill St wins their first round game on the road 24-3. Robinson ran for just under 300.
Robinson must have healed--I read he was only about 50% against us.

It was a great win, but I am not going to hang my off-season on it & think that we have all the answers on this squad. Our defense at 110% (and the ILS offense at 100%) would have given up 400+ yards passing by Q3 & then their back-up TBs would have then ran all over us when we tried to adjust, Just as it has been for the past 6-weeks. Their lines were bigger and faster than ours, just as it has been for the last 6-games. We blitzed every play against a scared young QB who could not offer his team any direction, when experience QB's throw for 50+ yard TDs with the same Pelini pressure. ILS was 0-12 in 3rd-downs, clearly we had 100%up front defense.

Our first drive was the only respectable drive we had., because we went wildcat on them. The second drive was 10 plays for 29-yards & a field goal. We build up a decent head of steam with CHapman (3) and then we pull him?

We need bigger and faster lines, bigger fast TB's, a defense that can tackle, corners that see the it, once the ball is snapped. All of this with some additional depth by April.
We  won't ever know for sure  if they were at 100%--I remember back in 2013 UNI had knocked off Iowas State yet they couldn't beat ILS but YSU beat ILS 59-21--you could be right about them  @ 100% but  the team with better players is never a guaranteed win and I still believe ILS wasn't gonna win this one better or not---bottom line we won and we will never know about "if's."

We played a team missing 2 OL and their QB. Their top TB was playing at maybe 50%. Of course none of this will change this year. a 100% ILS would have beat up on us like SIU.
That's also a matter of opinion--with the way our defense was playing ,ILS @ 110% would've still got their butts kicked. 8)

That was fantastic to see Mays being helped onto the field so he could take the last snap of the season. Very very cool, congrats to whomever thought of doing that!

Illinois State ended up completing as many passes to YSU as they did their own team--was proud of our team today, they gave a great effort especially on defense---nice to see Nate Mays take the final snap.

I hope to see less penalties, better special teams and a whole lot of backups in the second half.

If we get more sideline penalties I may just lose my mind.
Looks like you got all of the above! ;)
