YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: YSU to Name Ethan Faulkner MBB Coach!

Realistically this level of D1 basketball is a stepping stone for coaches and players to bigger and better places. Watching the tournament teams have many kids that have transferred in from the mid majors and I’m sure the same is true for coaches.

Sadly the FCS championship will have to compete with NFL tomorrow at 2:00. I can’t imagine what that game’s audience will be.

Very, very small. They should move it to the middle of bowl season. If you’re not an FCS fan or a fan of the 2 teams no one cares at this point.

Very true. It all depends on if they can make money off of you.

And a real good way to get yourself released and unemployed.

I love football, but the amount of people that will tune into the FCS championship game is far less than the amount that would watch NC-Duke basketball on a random Tuesday night.

Yes he does have issues to work out.  An NCAA basketball tournament berth and first round win would be more exposure for YSU than all 4 FCS titles combined. FCS is irrelevant to everyone but us fools that follow it for our schools.

Based on the fact that only 3,500 people cared that YSU had a home playoff game, changing conferences would only be an issue to people that hang on to “MVFC is the best conference “ as a source of pride.  Nova could end up in a similar situation. The CAA is a shadow of its former self. If they decided to move to the Patriot League, would any of the 2,915 fans that cared to go to the YSU playoff game really care? To me the mentioned attendance figures are proof of how irrelevant this level of football has become to the casual fans and even the students at the schools.

You can’t base the overall talent level off a a few one off kids that made it to the NFL. In my opinion the 93/94 teams would smack the crap out of the 23 team.

Dude, the 93 and 94 teams were littered with legit D1 players that either stayed home or transferred back. Tressel worked that like a master. There probably aren’t more than a small handful of kids on the current roster that could have played for those teams. FCS 2023 is D2 when compared to 1AA in the 90s

All about money and opportunity. Per yahoo report he is making $400k at NDSU. Gotta be more at USC. And he’s getting a step up in the coaching ranks by moving from the minor leagues to the majors.

Hard to upgrade a coaching staff while paying very low salaries. No seasoned coach is coming here for $50k. You get what you pay for. During the Nova game they showed YSU coaches in the press box. They were all in their 20s if appeared. Maybe good coaches with potential
, but that was eye opening

Probably around 15.

I have to think that with NIL and the ability to transfer and play immediately that the FCS level will be basically dead. If you’re a Big 10 looking for playing time there’s probably dozens of FBS schools that will come calling. And with money. No reason to even think about transferring down a division.

The portal and NIL will kill this level of football. My brother teaches at Fitch. Pitt was there visiting some recruits. They give each scholarship player a minimum of $22k per year. It has always been hard to recruit at the FCS level. But why would anyone choose an FCS school over FBS? Nova has rarely been able to out recruit the likes of Temple and Rutgers. NIL and the portal will make that impossible going forward.
