YSU Penguin Athletics / Pelini & Purdue?

With all the Power 5 jobs that will be open after the season, good bet he's gone

He probably rigged the voting like he did the raffles.  I didn't know there was a cheaters wing at the college football hall of fame

I love how you attack a person that has contributed more to Youngstown and Youngstown State University than about 99.1% of the people in North East Ohio and believe these liberal critical journalists that have an agenda to hurt others.  I know that you don't see the big picture because you appear to be a typical liberal that preaches acceptance of others but can't accept anything you disagree with.  You are an uninformed simpleton and you couldn't make the same impact on a community or a university if you every resource available to you, but you can hide behind a screen name and criticize a person that been an exceptional contributor to NE Ohio.

I am not a person that typically attacks others, but I will say that your post is just full of hatred.

Please tell me where I'm wrong, is he not a proven cheater & liar?  Has been for decades.  BTW, since you're dragging politics into this, I'm a registered Republican

I agree Ed. I just remember hearing the crying from Florida about how he (Meyer) did not want to do this, but his doctor told him he had to resign. Then suddenly (when they lost a couple key recruits) he is back. Then he says that he will stay through the end of the season. He went in so far as to infer it was a medical issue that would kill him if he did not stop coaching all together.

So what ever happened to this mysterious medical issue that he would take a job that is even more stressful than the one he left? Did it just clear up? I will tell you what is was ...a case of having the dirtiest program in the nation and posterior inner-rectal NCAA complications. Then you had ABC (ESPN/Disney), as they controlled the SEC back then, telling him to get out of town before the thing became inflamed.

Last week Mrs. Meyer actually began the process of disinformation on the illness and the dispatch willingly publishes it. She says that Urban had lost some of his key coaches, to better jobs of course, forcing him to take on too much responsibility. Well in reality we all know that the university could not bring anyone else in because once they saw what went on in the program, they would have left ...possibly leaking something.

My only satisfaction that most of the key players from the last three games (including Cordale) were Tressel recruits; but I am not on of those idiots that refuses to credit the current coach ...this is Meyer's team and Meyer's title. Just note that this year's Buckeye team is an anomaly; that is a team with the success components of the SEC/Florida/Meyer and Big-10/OSU/Tressel. For example: an unstoppable d-line with players that were rotated (from Tressel) and shut-down corners (from Meyer). If Meyer goes for more height and speed in the middle (like an SEC school), he will never succeed in the Big-10. If he does not keep speed and physical nature of his corners, he will never do well against read option clubs (SEC).

Same holds true on offense. Taller smarter QB's (Big-10) with arms vs. running QB's (SEC). JT Barret might not have beaten Oregon and he definitely would not have beaten Alabama. The issue for Meyer next year? Barrett is the better QB and Cordale already had his red-shirt.

Thank you I-AA, Urban Cryer or Urban Liar, it's all the same with that tool. Besides half his Florida team being convicts & thugs,  Saban started kicking his a$$ so he made up a lame excuse of "health issues" to high tail it & run.  Another rumor was he was having an extra-marital affair with an office employee

As far as sweatervest, he's been lying & cheating since he rigged raffles in the 80's.  What a tragic hero how he was treated in the end.  Win at all costs was his motto.  Now he's a university prez.  It does pay to cheat & lie

It pays to be associated with Youngstown folks. We take care of our own.

The 49ers organization is a circus.  Jed York is clueless, they'll go back to being a terrible franchise again

I do not think this individual has every posted anything positive about anyone or anything on this board. Needless to say, a quick glance at his previous posts shows he is as classless as they come:

Just stating the obvious, yet posters like IP constantly bashed other posters with insults & nothing was ever done about it.  Unless his absence is a result of a board suspension, then I commend the moderator

Just a heads up, go read the reaction around the country. YSU is being held up to scorn and ridicule heavily for the hiring, but most held Akron up for the same. Might be popular locally, but the   outside world  is looking down their collective noses at this. Will be interesting to see how this actually plays out.

Exactly, YSU is the laughingstock of the nation right now.  The guy is a proven cheater & liar, but I guess that doesn't matter.  How about another 2Pac quote Jimmy!

Who cares? Let them keep talking  ...more advertising for us. I can see ESPN and  the MVFC network calling right now to see if the president sits in a box or a loge. If the later does he come down for interviews.

Local money coming back into the university, as they know they have to put their money where their mouth is.

Akron people saying 'he took YSU because we did not want him' while YSU people saying Tressel did not want Akron. Nice fresh seed for a rivalry.

Ahh ...feels like Youngstown again  :)

President Tressel, first order of business ...take over that Eastern Gateway ...or get it shut down! Then do the same with Kent Trumbull. Otherwise YSU will continue to dwell in "mediocrity"

It could not have worked out better
First off, iceman, you never have anything positive to say, so I could careless what you, or anyone across the nation thinks of this move. Inside the Buckeye state, it is being praised by our great Governor, Senator's, local politicians, and fans of Tressel all across Ohio.

Second, IAAFan, I agree with everything up to a point. I disagree about Eastern Gateway. This area badly needs that community college. Those students, at least initially, should not be going to YSU. A bad wrap about YSU is the fact they accept virtually everyone. Now, since they made it slightly tougher to get in, many of those students that would have gone to YSU before are now going to EGCC. We need our area educated across the board. A nice mix of college grads and community college grads is better than an area filled with those with just high school diplomas.

How can a guy who has cheated & lied his whole professional life (& brought sanctions to YSU) stand up in front of students and faculty and preach about integrity & character when he has none himself?  WHat will he lie about and try to cover-up as Prez?  They don't call him Teflon Tressel for nothing.  He's a big a hypocrite as they come

Tressel suffers from the human condition just as everyone else here.  Only one person was perfect and every Christian religion is based on that person.  Use some wisdom.   What Tressel did and was accused of is violating an ncaaf rule not breaking the law or committing any crimes.  If you keep believing sensationalized news you will lose the proper perspective.   Use your wisdom and measure him for his strengths.  He beats out any of the candidates that he was up against except arguably Dr. Abram.  The fact that Tressel WILL get the support of the community makes him a grand slam home run based on the current economic challenges that all higher education is faced with.......namely lack of $.  Abram would have been a bigger gamble in the most important area of need.  I don't live in Y-town anymore, but the impact is national.  I have heard from people all over the country that have commented on it (I am a mini superfan so a lot of people know about YSU because of unprovoked lessons that I give to friends).

Leadership skill is based on results.  Tressel has the track record.  How many people that posses his leadership skills would pick YSU over many other high profile opportunities?  Tressel belongs to Youngstown as much as any of our Iconic people in our storied past (i.e. Warner Brother etc).  He is exactly what we need and we are fortunate that he is humble enough to want us too.  He is not perfect and no one is perfect, but he is a lot closer than most.  He has left good and remarkable impact on every community that he has been a part of.

Not only was he "accused of withholding information" he, did, in fact, withhold information, "intentionally" so as to prevent the expected result of losing the services of key players on the OSU team. Had that happened, it is unlikely that OSU would have succeeded in winning like they did, henceforth his "performance" would not have been so "stellar". So once again, he tries to sell it as his intentions were "honorable", but I see no honor in lying and cheating to win.

ice cold man, I really believe that Italian Penguin knows more about basketball at YSU than you will ever learn.
I also believe that you were unable to match wits with him and were put in your place by him countless times.

I'd say I won because he is no longer around. This board is a better place without his presence

Too bad IP left the site, he gave all the Basketball news before it reached the press.

Italian Penguin was the best poster on this site. But he got sick and tired of all the B.S. the "know nothings" on the board were allowed to constantly spew.

He was also the biggest asshat on the site.  His biggest contribution was lobbing insults at other posters for stating their opinions.  Good Riddance

Coach T will always be remembered to for what you see in that video. I do not know of anyone that sees him as a liar or a cheater ...in Ytown or Columbus. Now being a Zip holds a bad taste in my mouth :)

Ok...why is he not still at OSU?  If you polled 100 college football fans, 80 say he's a cheater & liar.  He's been doing so since he was rigging raffles at youth football camps in his OSU assistant days.  Win at all costs is his motto
