I just looked up the Albany-Villanova game. Villanova had five turnovers; Albany had none.

As others have noted, Villanova is the only CAA team that has the size and strength up front to compete in the MVFC. With James Madison and Delaware now gone, the CAA has become Villanova and the (fill-in the blank) dwarfs.

The CAA joins the Southern Conference, once the home of multiple championship teams Georgia Southern, Marshall, and Appalachian State, as a second rate FCS conference.

As we remain an irrelevant program in the irrelevant FCS.

Could’nt agree more I never understood the fascination of being in the fourth fifth or or six best team in a conference that we don’t fit in with no natural rivalries and very hard to travel. If we were in the CAA, we would be with Villanova like Dakotas, and be a top team every year and make the playoffs a lot easier and with that would come a higher seed and more home games instead of being a middle of pack team as we are now. But Mike was said in his post the FCS will become more irrelevant.
I don’t see anything positive staying in the conference or wait. Maybe we should hang a banner Youngstown State plays in the toughest conference in FCS football and we made the playoffs three times in 20+ years ha ha ha ha we can put that next to the championship flags don’t get me wrong, I love Youngstown State but when you look at this from the big picture being in his Conference has been nothing but a failure look at this they brought in Murray state, not for football, but do the basketball program. Why aren’t we in? why aren’t we in this conference? I know the answer because we don’t have the money that the schools have for the most part that’s another story but again hey, we played a toughest conference and FCS and congratulations for that and let’s be honest we got a bottom feeder playoff team as a reward we would opened up on the road  against Villanova we have been one and done but again I’m still pro these guys and I understand we’re never gonna leave the conference as long as the AD supports it .  Another thing just because those teams suck. I got to the final four doesn’t matter. It just proves my point due to a conference got them to that point they didn’t have to beat their heads into the wall like we have done year after year hoping praying that we get in.  Go penguins.

So what options do you have?

1. Move to a supposedly easier conference. Well would that not be an embarrassment? Look at how people here attacked WIU? You know that they only moved because they needed a conference that can support all of their sports. They were a power in the MVFC for years. Despite the OVC/Big south conference heading for twice our size, they only one team is going to make the play-off. MVFC had what? 6 teams?

2. Join the MAC? Well then I am no longer anything but a dedicated TV watcher and radio listener, as I do not have the ability to attend weekday games..

3. I mean the 3 bowl games that they have had so far were basically unknown to anyone on TV. Yet they were all above the level of the MAC. Heck, the second place team in the MAC gets a better game than the winner.. They get a Big-10 team. Although this is a record year for the MAC and he number of bowl games.

4. Miami (MAC Champion) brags about coach Martin's 6 national championships in the past 20-years. This is in their program and bio.  Funny, not one of those came from his time with Miami. They were all from Grand Valley State (D-II) and his prior NAIA championship. I mean he has been with Miami for 10+ years, about time they started talking about his accomplishments at Mimi.

5. The head coach of the best team in FCS/I-AA is leaving to be a position coach at a big-10 school..

You know not every MAC game is during the week right?

Kent state only had 1 home game on a Wednesday and so did Akron,

watched some of the nova/bunny game today, do not feel so bad about our loss to Nova. They were legit, gave SDSU all they could handle.

100% Agree, Villanova was an extremely good team.

We shall see if Brady Shannon is rusty.   Not a bad get but we will need more transfers a that position

Did he get any D1 offers to play QB when he came out of HS? If I recall, Crenshaw was also a 3 star recruit who could run but not pass. I hope this guy could do better.

As a D1 outfielder I'm sure he has raw arm talent to be developed into a very good FCS QB imo.

He was a 3 star recruit according to 247 Sports, ranked 80th overall prospect in the state of Ohio for Football

I only saw 6 other Ohio QBs ranked higher than him for that class. It looks like, UMAss, Akron, Kent and YSU all offered him in 2020 for football.

Well, I mean, it is semi-pro, right? It has been for a very, very long time. It is kind of silly the NFL has this free minor league system masquerading around as collegiate sports.

The only real amateur college  athletics exists in division 3. Once a school compensates a student to play sports (in the form of a scholarship) they aren’t an amateur anymore in my opinion. If you are given something in exchange for playing sports how in the world could you be considered “amateur”

That’s why I’m not as concerned about all the NIL stuff, and compensation. Athletes have been compensated for a long time, we’ve just been limiting the form and amount

The fee to move up to FBS just recently changed to $5 million up from $5,000 a year or two ago

With NIL, conference realignment I’m not sure the NCAA CFB structure is going to exist much longer, in guessing tHE P5 Pull away and we get something new in the next 5 years

It has been stated in the past if you make a run in the playoffs you lose money.

Even  at 3800 attendance we would have made $76k at $20 per ticket, not to mention any commercial boxe, sponsorships, food etc

I’m thinking we could have broken even

Strollo bid 20k seats. I bet it is about half the selling price, so that would be about $10 x 20k or $200,000 we paid the NCAA to host. Does not matter how many people actually show, we still owe. I doubt we have ever recovered our payout, even in the 90's. Believe me, He bought us into the post-season. I have to respect that.

It honestly felt like more than 3800 were in the stands. I was going to guess closer to 5k.

Anyway don't get too down on the attendance figures Thanksgiving weekend is just a bad weekend for small college football. I've been going to Mount Union playoff games for years, and thanksgiving weekend is Always sparsely attended compared to the rest of their games.

It's a combination of travel plans, students not being on campus etc.

Didn't look like 3800 on the tube..

I thought that 3800 was low! Thought that it was better to report a low number to save some bucks.

Errr. Why would he bid 20k seats? Rooney Field (Duquesne's home field) only seats 2200. Couldn't he have just  bid above whatever their max capacity was? Where else would the NCAA hold a game other than our place or at Duquesne?

I have to disagree on the helmets.  The Pete helmet is obnoxious.  I absolutely hate it.  I only support the traditional helmet.

I'll second this comment. I think the Pete helmet is fine as a 1 off novelty but the traditional helmet is classy. The Pete head is way too busy from a design perspective

Massey Computer Rankings, which seem pretty accurate to me in terms of predictions has our game very close

It's prediction is 30-27 with Villanova having a 57% chance to win

When we had our Space the other night (Listen), two things jumped out at me when looking at Duquesne that should work in our favor:

1. Their QB appears to lead the FCS with 18 interceptions (1.63 int's per game)
2. Their QB is completing just 51% of his passes

Obviously the weakest part of our team is pass defense. Knowing this QB has not been very accurate this year, if I am the DC I would bring pressure early and often to try to rattle their QB. If we can force him out of a rhythm early, I'd like to think we will be in good shape come the middle of the third quarter.

Go YSU!

I just looked at the Duquesne athletic website and learned that this quarterback is still in the mix for the Walter Payton Award. I'm serious, I can't make this stuff up. Also, their coach is a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award. I guess 7-4 and winning the NEC is a great accomplishment in the wacky world of FCS football.

They are similar to a mediocre to bad MVFC team. Massey Ratings, which I've found to be a pretty reasonable in terms of computer rankings has them at 65, which would put them at #10 in the MVFV

for comparison YSU is #13, Illinois State is #25, Murray State is #71

I don't think this will be a cake walk, but anything less than a W will be a huge underperformance

5pm Kickoff

YES!

It's perfect small college football Saturday. I'm going to watch Mount Union's playoff game at noon, and then making my way to Stambaugh for the 5pm game.

Unbelievable! Not only do we get in but the committee gives us a matchup with a team we typically schedule as a cupcake game.

Didn't have this on my FCS bracket bingo card!

I know it's one week at a time but Duquesne probably isn't as good as a bottom half MVFC team.

According to Massey they are #65 overall, that would put them above Murray State (#71) Indiana State (#77) and Western Illinois (#116) in our conference but every other MVFC team is top 30 ranked

Must win out. Only chance IMO. Though 7-4 with a loss to OSU, two 3 point losses on the road and a close loss (assuming) to the #1 team in the country would be considered at selection time but we know how the committee is. 8-3 is a must.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. 7-4 (7-3 in FCS) puts us on the bubble... and we someheow never get the benefit of the doubt their. 8-3 and we're in
