This thread is ridiculous and shows where Mr. Wick250's priorities are this season. Clearly could care less about YSU winning and more with Wolford getting canned.

4-2 with 6 more games to go and you guys have given up on this team and this season. Pathetic.

I agree that everything is still in front of this team!  There is a lot of young talent on this team and many are contributing on Saturdays already!  Enough about the coaching staff, let them coach, and let us be fans, wait let us be supportive fans!  I don't agree with everything they do but I am sure that they are making those decisions with the best interest of the players, the University and the program as a whole! My mother always said if you don't have anything nice to say then shutup!

Watch what happens when he has to play against good MVFC teams.

It WAS Butler. And next is St. Frank. He is going to get exposed. Had no pass  rush  to worry about, poor DBs who couldn't match up with  the WRs  and he threw  NO deep balls. Mostly short. The coaches will try to keep him in short throws but he will face some difficult match ups. Then "rate" him.

Any of our QBs ( good or bad) would have beat Butler.

Stay tuned.

I agree any of QBs could have probably beaten Butler, but the fact of the matter is he only had 6 incompletions and 1 was a drop, he did exactly what he as a QB is supposed to do against a weaker opponent!
He has a lot of work to do, and as someone said earlier he needs to gain some weight and get stronger which I sure he will this offseason!  His long TD throw was over 50 yards in the air into a very strong wind, how much further do you really need to throw a football?  Did you see his post game interview?  Seems like he has his stuff together, wouldn't give the media any answers they wanted to hear!  The 6th year WR spoke highly of Wells in his post game interview also, that is an important part of how this team will develop as the year progresses!

Was at all 3 games so far this year  so far and was at 3 total games last year,  seems like the offense in this past game with Wells at QB was more comparable to the offense YSU ran last year with Hess, whereas the offense the first 2 games with Nania was designed to play to Nania's strengths!  It looked to me that Wells definitely was able to grasp the offense as several times seen him making completions to his 3rd and 4th reads!  I know as a Senior he was able to call audibles at line of scrimmage depending on what defense gave him and called the line protection on every passing play!  He attempted over a 1,000 passes in his high school career and has seen almost every coverage and defense possible, I think with Montgomery's knowledge to teach him this complicated offense in the future and Hunter's ability to grasp it, the sky is the limit!  YSU seems like their strengths are the O-line and the skill at WR and RB to make people miss and make plays in open field, the QB just needs to manage the game and I think that is exactly what Wells did yesterday!  He only missed on 6 attempts and Stubbs dropped a very catchable ball that would have been a TD that ended in a FG!  I forget what WR it was but someone was tackled inside the 1 yd line on a reception and 3 run plays later we kicked another FG!  With any breaks at all he throws for 5 maybe 6 TDs and over 300 yards!  I understand it was Butler who struggled with Wittenberg, but 16-22-297-4TDs; that's what your supposed to do to Butler as an 18 year freshman!  Two quarterback system definitely seems like a necessity more than a possibility!  Many of you guys have made good points, and look forward to more conversation on this topic!  I said in previous post (after his signing dayl) that I figured Wells would have an impact on YSU football in the future just didn't think it would be the 3rd week his freshman year!

Thanks, Penguinpower, I actually did read that article already just wasn't familiar with what Scale's O (Joe Scalezo) was!  I wasn't aware that Paladin wasn't a Penguin fan either thanks for the info!

PENGUIN POWER

"After reading Scale o's article I say to play Hunter Wells.  You have a long time to develop him and he probably won't be running as much.  More long term upside."

Where was this article at couldn't seem to find it anywhere?

Paladin I cant believe we are less than 2 weeks away from the season opener and you are already writing the script for the season and how mediocre it will be!  What we have to remember is that these are young men and winning can become very contagious!  I have been to several practices and to both scrimmages and I see a lot of talented football players working their butts off!  I believe the biggest factor for this teams future is that they need to start the season strong and continue to get better every week leading up to the big MVFC games which will determine their post season play!
You act like you were the only person who knew they would change there offense this year,  well the last time I checked that is a sign of a good coaching staff; being able to adapt your coaching philosophies to what best fits your players on your team!  Nania is a very athletic kid and I believe the YSU staff has done a good job making the offense fit his skill type, while you make the out to be a negative!
Both Wolf and Monty interviews clearly states the Wells has done some things to catch the attention of the coaches and players!  Coach Monty said that Wells is further along than any freshman QB he has ever had. I am  pretty sure he had 2 QBs drafted into the League when he was head coach at Miami (Ohio), Ben Roethlisberger is pretty good last time I checked!  So when the coaches say that Wells has earned the #2 spot how bout we trust their decision and quit being so negative and critical!  Could they be trying to light a fire under Davis's butt, absolutely but from what I have seen is that Wells has clearly outplayed Davis in the few times I was able to watch live practices!
In closing lets just remember that we are undefeated right now as is every other team in the country and these young men can still make this season be the season we remember for a long time!  The players and staff have been putting in some long hard hours preparing to have a great season; and I wish them all the best of luck on the upcoming season.  I am now finalizing my travel plans to Champaign as this will be the last Big 10 game YSU will participate in! Once again GOOD LUCK and GO GUINS!!

Yeah I went to the scrimmage today and to me looks like Nania did nothing to hurt his starting chances week 1!  He got almost all the reps with the first team except on both 2 minute drill situations, which makes me think that true frosh Wells may get into some games in certain situatons.  Wells took all the reps with the 2nd team, and Davis got all the reps with the 3rd team!  Dante can definitely do some things with his feet that the QBs cant do, however I think Wells may be a more pro-typical QB that YSU may eventually be looking for,  he looked comfortable in the pocket directing the offense!  If I were to guess Nania will start and Wells may work in a couple of series to get some reps in game situations, or I may be completely wrong!

What QBs are getting all the reps in practice? The last thing I heard Wolf say in an interview after Red and White scrimmage last week was they were going to narrow the race because there were not enough reps for 3 QBs to share in practice?  Has anyone heard anymore than that?

You must have forgot about the 4 TDs and 380 yards he had in the win against you this year at Fairless!  Two of them within the last six minutes!  The last TD to tie up the game, came on drive that started with 1:28 and almost 80 yards to go, and no timeouts! Both of his 4th quarter touchdowns were made possible by his ability to make a defender miss and extend the play. He is definitely not a dual threat QB, and from a article in the paper this year he will be the first to admit that to you.   I'm pretty sure that the coaches at all the camps he went to the past two years were able to see his arm strength and evaluate it accordingly! As far as his mobility, week 4 at Triway he got a severe high ankle sprain that took almost 6 weeks to completely heal, so yeah he probably was more mobile the year before!

Don't look now but your future QB was just named NE Inland District Offensive Player of the Year; ahead of Ursaline's Chris Durkin (Michigan St.)!  He was also voted as Stark County Player of the Year by the coaches!  Was voted as WTIG area Offensive Player of the Year!  Broke the Stark County single season passing  record with  3,558 yards (62% completion), and rewrote the Stark County career passing record with 8,348 yards which places him 13th all time in the state of Ohio! He led his team to the playoffs and first playoff win in school history!  If your worried about him because went to a small high school,  pretty sure the Kurt Hess was small school (Chaminade-Julienne D-4), and Hess had good high school stats, but not Wells stats! Is this kid a day 1 starter, probably not, but I believe he will have an impact on the YSU football program in the future!  Coach Montgomery was guest speaker at Stark County Player of the Year Banquet, Coincident....maybe, maybe not!  Paladin I just don't understand why your so down on this kid! How about we have a little trust in YSU coaching staff a give the kid a chance to prove himself before we start judging!

On the year he is 159/242(almost 66%) 2383 23tds and 5 ints!  Has his team at 6-1 and looking at possibly making playoffs  for only 2nd time in school history! Ray Jeske 990 am Radio said he was the best pro-typical qb in stark county and one of the best small school QBs he can remember, and ask the audience to make an argument for a better one and got no calls!  He gained almost 20 lbs between his Jr. and Sr year, I agree that redshirting him may be in his and YSU best interest, but the kid can make all the throws. I saw him at Toledo and BGSU satellite camps in stark county and was one of 2 QBs that could make the 15 yard out throw from the opposite hash while rolling out to the left......"the throw" all college coaches want to see if a QB can make!
I have had some communication with people who are semi associated with Fairless (stark county football) and know Hunter personally and this year he has left college visits to MAC schools go bye, and has already attended 2 YSU games, and is is most likely going to the game this weekend vs Western Illinois.  If he continues with the season he has started there is no doubt that other offers will probably come!  I heard he could have been a preferred walk on at BGSU, earning this status while at a satellite camp at Massillon, and that was before the season he is having now!

YSU Commit leads Fairless 75 yards in less than minute to bring the game to a 28-28 tie against (3-0 state ranked) Manchester and wins 49-48 in 3 OT's.  27-45  380  4 TD and a rushing touchdown!  All in the presence of YSU OC Montgomery who was on the sidelineslink.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid2632456470001?bckey=AQ~~,AAABfnhljCE~,n46aOj75zj-TZ2wLXx_tbwHt-Hq_mplJ&bclid=2632478935001&bctid=2683837140001 …!

Highschoolsportcenter's math was wrong in that article 492(frosh)+1952(soph)+2342(Jr)=4786

6081(Baab) -4786(yards from above article)=1295 He needed to start his Senior year 1295-150(week 1)-464(week 2)=681 yards needed to break stark county all time passing record!

At least this QB has his head in the right place,  this is a copy and past from his twitter account

Hunter Wells ‏@h_wells8  4 Sep
All this talk about me breaking the stark record I could care less if I did, as long as we win that's all I'm concerned about #PacChamps

From Sat Sept 7th The Repository (Cantons Local Newspaper)  #1 on all time passing record is Alliance Charles Baab 6081 yards. #6 on the list is Hunter Wells 5397, my math says that he only needs 684 yards to break the All Time Stark County Passing Record!
