Haha.  Lots to think about in this thread. Someone just said this board is hating.  We can’t do that!!!  Palladian and nation have been calling this the cheerleader board for far too long.

Tressel, attendance, the 90’s OH MY!!! To be clear on some of the posts, Heacock got us in the playoffs once in ‘06.   The Wolf couldn’t win in November let alone win enough to make the playoffs.

Funny how no one mentions big BP much. You talk sooo much about kids coaching kids but fail to remember what HIS staff consisted of.  Maybe it’s NOT about inexperienced staff or the lack of money but rather, we just haven’t found another Tressel. Hate to break it to ya…we probably wont. JT, attendance AND the 90’s were an anomaly.  Not likely to happen again.  Look at the crumble happening in NDSU.  And look at the attendance at Nova. If memory serves me, I heard 5k fans?  And what did we have the week before, 3,500?  Man…that’s a helluva margin.  What’s that tell you?  ITS. NOT. JUST. YSU. And who said NDSU attendance is even falling? And they’re only a COUPLE years removed from their dynasty.

Hate to break THIS to you also.  IF we happen to be ranked top 10 this year, I’d say that’s not too shabby, actually.

Look, I get it…I want to be a power house. I wish the 90’s never happened as even I want that again.

I’d say, be satisfied with the very small incremental progress we have made over the last few years and go to church.  Cuz ain’t too many more flags gonna be hung without some prayer and another anomaly.

Go GUINS!!!

Im not gonna say DP is THE guy, because I don’t know if he is. But please stop with the “principal” or “plenty of D2/3 coaches” crap. You’re making yourselves look silly.  You act like we never went 33-28 over 4 years, and 21-24 in 4 of 5 years, or lost to Butler with not just a D2 high school principal, BUT rather a POWER 5 coach.  By your logic, we should have had 4-star recruits and back to back championships from 2014-2019 with said-type of coach.  Except, we had ALL of that.  And last I checked, BP doesn’t have an education degree nor did he ever coach at the D2/2 level.

I figured today would be a small crowd and small tailgate.  With that said, there is waaaay less people in the M70 lot than I though there would be. lol.  GO GUINS!!!  And keep Pete on the helmet!!!

While I agree and disagree with a lot said in this thread. Many of you are posting as if a non ranked team was supposed to beat the #1 ranked team who hasn’t lost to ANYONE in the last 23 attempts.  Hahaha. Not sure if y’all were aware but we did NOT just lose to Butler.  Look I’m a fan and love this team win or lose and I too get pissed off but if anyone thought for a millisecond that we had any chance to win this game you were absolutely dreaming.

Any QB’s on here? Please explain how, at this level,QB1 stares down receivers (from the snap)and expects to complete passes?  Just so sooo bad.  Also, how many years in a row are we into now, that the secondary just gets lit up every game?  It’s embarrassing. RMU made the D look silly.  Hahahahhaha.  Is that skill problems or coaching problems.  Or both?  I’d bounce the DC before OC although OC is right behinds.  It’s so funny at this point.  Step or two back today, imo. Here’s more also, running game is blah at best.

Good God. Can we please bury the “where’s the crowd” comments and replies already? That dead horse has been beaten so many times already it’s physically, mentally and emotionally exhausting.

Just saw a retweet from Dana Balash that he made the team. Hope it’s accurate!  McAllister waived.

My brother gets our tix every year.  Asked ME to ask you all about tailgate passes.  He said he did not see anything on the ticket request form about passes.  He said he emailed multiple times and no one responds.  Anyway, any thoughts?  Anyone have issues with getting passes???

All due respect but I wish we would all stop asking where the fans are.  They left with Tressel, who also isn’t coming back.  At least not until we start winning like we did while he was here. Had several people say today, “you think if we won last week there would be more people here with Playoffs on the line?”  My answer…NO!!!  It is what it is.  Those of us who were there saw a darn good group of kids who didn’t quit.  And then won.

I told everyone we are getting better.  The proof is now in the record. As I stated before, after the Kentucky game everyone set expectations way too high. And as I said before.  Nobody wants to play us.  We are a 4th quarter team because we have superior strength and conditioning.

I’m on YOUR team PPower!!!!

Not to say I told you so, but we are getting better.  2 more recruiting cla$$es and we will be outstanding!

I’m with ya.  Not sure about outstanding though. Someone on FB added the quote from Bowden. First you lose big, then lose close, then win close and finally win big.  Not saying we are ready for playoffs or anything else BUT there is SOMETHING going on here that is positive. Sure, we aren’t beating DSU’s but something just MAY be brewing for a brighter future.   Go GUINS.

I see MD is pictured on the advertisement for this week.  Does that mean he gets the start?

Yeah…hate to say it but Crenshaw is NOT the one. Several times on sidelines Tomczak was working with him.  Seems a little late for that.  Still a firm believer that DP needs more time to get more players but gonna be a long year again.

To expand on the points that Penguin68 made, coaching inexperience or poor judgment cost us wins against Western Illinois and North Dakota. I firmly believe that we would have outscored Indiana State had Crenshaw not been forced out of the game. We could have actually won six games.

The offensive line could not pa$$ block against anybody, but they opened enough holes for McLaughlin and Crenshaw in the five conference games in which they were not hopelessly overmatched.

Phillips stated many times that he intends to build the team from the bottom up by recruiting freshmen. I generally support that approach, but six transfers could do wonders for the morale of both the players and the fans.  Two on the oline, two on the dline, and two linebackers, please. With our less demanding schedule next season, such additions could perhaps make us competitive.

Good points.  As I have stated all year.

#1.  Phillips was handcuffed a bit going in.  I would ask anyone, who would have done better?  The one thing that Phillips has over Pellini (and was evident early) was the kids never quit any game all year even if they were hopelessly overmatched.

#2.  As I've been saying all year, don't go at this with high expectations and be patient.  This isn't an easy fix because it involves the lines and it takes time to develop them.  Without transfers it will take 5 full years to get the required depth with our scholarship level.  As my Italian friend Bobby says "Thanks Pelini,  You filled the roster full of 5'7" Degos from Mooney and now we suck."  Isn't that insightful?  He hardly watches anymore.

#3 Phillips has a philosophy that is similar to Tressel and it starts on the defensive side of the ball with a defense oriented team..  Our secondary would have been one of the best in the FCS if we had a DL and a few more LB's to help them out. When you have to cover for 8 seconds, which I observed multiple times against the Salukis, it's almost impossible to be efficient in stopping the pa$$.  Secondly, the kids he did bring in are pretty good, and  they will be exceptional with more development and time.  What I know about his offensive philosophy is that we will run the ball first.  I agree with what he wants to do here.  However, I did see them try to work with what they've got in the pa$$ing game.  Notice how may pa$$es Crenshaw was releasing the ball as soon as he got it.....like throwing to a spot to reduce protection time.  They did a lot there as coaches, especially Crenshaw's footwork improvement.  That was done to help the OL deficiencies.  Another year in the weight room for both sides of the ball will do a lot of good.  What I will say in comparison to Tressel is that both appear to try to fit an offense that fits their people. We had option teams with Tidwell and pocket pa$$ers with Ryan etc.  I see similarities in a lot of areas.

We were blown out a lost games for 3 reasons this year.  #1. We didn't match up well with the best teams athletically on the LOS (will be fixed through weight training and recruiting as he has said multiple times).  #2  we didn't have the depth when we were in some of those games and faded out in the second half several times.  #3 Phillips wasn't going to change his coaching philosophy or his game plan because they weren't working in a specific game.  He wasn't hasty and always allowed them time to work out (or not work out) in a game.  He simply identified what they thought our strengths were and tried to game plan to them.  We're we out coached in a few games with our inexperienced staff?  Yes, but Phillips is just not going to throw out his entire philosophy and in the middle of a game he's losing.  He's just not built that way.

We should have won 6 games.  If you watch any significant amount of football, you would see that against the Dakota teams we look like a high school team playing a college team on the LOS.  Just to be in the other Valley games shows you the grit of the kids playing.  I would rather see that than watch a Pelini team give up in the second quarter because they got down by 2 scores and folded like a house of cards.  That never happened, even if we were overmatched.  Could they have done better?  Sure. But.....

#4. Remember you have a young team that is inconsistent.  And some of that also goes on an inexperienced coaching staff.  They've got a lot to work on in the off season, but everything is easily identifiable.  I think they did a good job this year all things considered because I kept my expectations low.

^^^this.  Spot on and very well said.  Couldn’t agree more.
