This coach is going to work out. He needs time to recruit and develop.  Pelosi was the worst recuiter we've had since the Tressel era.  He took Wolford's recuits and  took the team far but they were undisciplined and looked for drugs etc.  Maybe he was the worst coach.  Anyhow, the cupboard is bare.  This guy is doing a hell of a job and he will get it turned around.  What did you expect with the recruiting Pelini had?

It takes time to turn things around and he has the program on the rise.

Exactly. Phillips exceeded expectations and raised false hopes by almost beating SDSU and then collecting the win against an unimpressive South Dakota. I remind you again that Tressel won 2 games in his rookie season, and he coached in a vastly inferior league with more talent inherited from Narduzzi than Phillips received from Pelini. If this staff can recruit and develop players, we will be competitive in 2022 and perhaps good in 2023.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Bowling team advances to the NCAA Final Four

I realize that 95% of you do not care. And like golf, bowling is more a game than a sport. But these women deserve recognition for their outstanding accomplishment. Seeded #13 (out of 16) going in to the tournament, they defeated #4, #5, and #12 to advance to the final four. And this team has been in existence for only five years. Congratulations. Give it your best shot tomorrow.

I'm quite sure this night was historic.  Giving up touchdowns on both a punt return and a kickoff return in the same freakin' game. That was not even the most disturbing thing.  A bad football team run blitzed on nearly every down in the second half and we had no answer. Not a thing in our playbook to counter that. Shameful.

Interesting Lakes.  In the fall there will be no place to hide. No way to beg off. I do have a question for you. Is UND strictly a finesse team as is the entire Big Sky from where they came?  If so, they will have to adjust quickly if they expect to compete near the top of this league.

Yes it is.  A former poster who is a track expert already corrected me.

YSU Penguin Athletics / North Dakota game

The silence about football during this bizarre season is deafening. I could understand that if the team remained as inept as the first two weeks.  But there has been substantial progress over the last three games.

North Dakota is dangerous because they are accomplished on the ground (206yds.) and in the air (207yds.)  On paper we do not match up at all on offense, but on defense we have the statistical advantage (310 to 374.) They are particularly vulnerable through the air, last in the conference in pa$$ defense (too bad that does not matter for us.)

There are two things that could work in our favor.  North Dakota began with three consecutive home games. This will be their third consecutive road game, and that is tough on anybody.  More importantly, they played NDSU last week. Teams in our conference rarely play particularly well the week after that game.

Only a fool would try to project off of comparative scores.  But North Dakota managed only 21 points at home off of that bad South Dakota team.  They also yielded 153 yards rushing to that nonexistent South Dakota ground game (129 after you reduce the lost yardage from four sacks.)

This Saturday will be an excellent measuring stick as we look ahead to next fall.

I care nothing about loge seating for the fat cats. I will suspend judgment until I see what quality of seating will be installed for the common man.

Illinois State just canceled the rest of their season with four games remaining.  This has nothing to do with Covid. Their coach just stated that he has too many injuries and must prevent more to be competitive in the fall. This travesty is much worse than what Indiana State did. This demands disciplinary action from the MVFC offices. You can not brag about being the elite FCS conference and let stuff like this happen.

300+ yards rushing; giving up practically nothing on the ground. Who could complain about that? In fairness, South Dakota is a finesse team completely out of place in the rugged, physical MVFC. Next week will be interesting and an important step in the evolution of our team.  Last I checked, NDSU was well ahead of their overrated in state rival. I am now starting to think that winning out is quite feasible.  But, of course, one week at a time.

To put this into perspective, this kid already can throw the shot put three meters farther than the distance that won this year's indoor Horizon League meet, accomplished by his future teammate at YSU.

In 2019, South Dakota put up 56 points against a Pelini team that had flat out quit on the season. I certainly don't expect that today. This is the first time this winter that we are walking on to the field and not facing a serious handicap in talent. This should be the day when the hard work of the players and coaches pays off.

Chief, see what you can learn.  This program virtually disintegrated within the span of a week.

I watched some of that match even though I don't know the rules.  Lacrosse is ten times more exciting than soccer. Talk about building a program in the right way.  This team consists entirely of freshmen, except for a senior transfer goal keeper.

This is probably the toughest four game stretch of games that we have ever played.  Going back as far as the championship years, there were always one or two "easy" playoff games against teams from weak conferences. If we can just survive today, physically and psychologically, the path does get easier. I expect several wins in the second half of the season.

Thank goodness for this bizarre season.  This rebuilding pain is absolutely necessary. Best to get the worst of it over right now in this ridiculous winter season.

He probably thinks that he will get an offer from the Big Ten.  My prediction is that he ends up at Wright State, a short distance from his home in Springfield. That is the kind of thing that happens when you basically eliminate the transfer rules.
