Three years in and Wolford and staff still can not make halftime adjustments.  This is pathetic.

I'm pretty sure they have a gymnasium right at the school.

I do not think Coach Slocum is "horrible" by any stretch.  But I do question his body of work in seven seasons of Division 1 basketball.   72-128 over seven seasons,  36-84 in the Horizon. That includes FOUR last place finishes.   I don't expect us to be Butler, I know our bread and butter is on the gridiron.  But, there isn't a high school in the area that would keep a coach with a record like this over the long haul.   I don't think this season changes that.   I know I don't post much, so I'm sure I'll get ridiculed for speaking out.   I do attend games, and I'd enjoy it a whole lot more if our expectations were not so low.  I just can't accept that this is the best we can do.   There is SOME talent, lets bring a coach in that can build on that.

One game doesn't change the opinion.  Seven years to get a mediocre team in place is not good.  It's progress yes.  But still time for a new direction.

Slocum has got to go.  I'm sorry, it's taken SEVEN years to put together a team that's slightly above .500.  And it's during the worst year top to bottom the league has had during that stretch.  That's unacceptable.  If the last couple of home games have proven anything, it's that people will support basketball here.  They won't support the last place team in the league, but they will support a team that is even mediocre.  It's time to blow this thing up.  This season should be the MINIMUM expectation of a season, not the celing for your progam.   Dump this guy and move on.

Still pop in the VHS of that 06 game every once in a while.  Great finish.  I was on the field for it, awesome atmosphere.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Attendance this year for YSU football?
« on: October 30, 2011, 10:48:32 PM »
I think a big problem is that casual fans, even after more than a decade, still don't know/don't care who these Gateway/MVFC teams are.  There are no natural regional rivalries.  Most people hear a school's name once a year when the football team plays them.   I don't know what the answer is, but I think that's a big part of our problem.
Personally, I don't care for the 1pm start.  I think that hurts attendance a bit as well.   That, on top of being a middle of the pack/down program for a long time has basically maken people apathetic towards it.  If they get a free ticket, it's something to do.  But it is NOT a destination.  Somehow the University needs to make it a destination again.

The giveaways haven't been all the spectacular lately either.  For the diehard that means nothing....but the stadium replica, the penguin bobblehead, those things will draw some casual fans.

There is no quick fix.  Winning will obviously help.  But it can't be the only solution.

 >:(  Very frustrated with the lack of preparation.  It should not take us until halftime to figure out how to defend someone.  I wasn't a fan of getting rid of Coach H.  Trying to give this guy a chance, but not very confident right now.
