YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: YSU VS ISU
« on: May 31, 2014, 05:13:48 PM »
Who was the person who was ignorant enough to say ISU was the best team in this region and all because the Big Ten is not good at baseball.  I was too lazy to state the obvious that well the Big Ten is not great at baseball but this team did go to Omaha last season and blew away the competition in the Big Ten.  Some people should really research before they post, but hey we are all guilty of being oblivious at times.

Baseball only has 11 or 12 scholarships I believe at the D.1 level.  No one is full-ride and after all the scholarships get divided who really cares who is on scholarship or not.

some people were refering to the fact they had a new coach last season and appear to be on the up swing.  Fact of the matter is, new coaches don't always makes things better.  Slocum is a case where things got better at YSU and he has raised the bar and possibly peaked.  Ball State is just not a good basketball program.  Keene is a scorer, Weber is a shooter.  I'll take a scorer any day over a shooter.  Let's just hope he does not turn out to be Doug Underwood like.

Ball State is horrible and will remain horrible.  Hate when people assume because of a new coach they are on the rise.  When you suck that bad your going to have a new head coach fairly often.  Have fun losing.  I'll take Keene anyway between the two...kid can create his own buckets and we're going to need that.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Question for Any Tennis Experts
« on: March 26, 2014, 07:40:13 AM »
I play some and follow pto tennis and some college and here is what I'll tell you.  The top talent tennis players for the most part don't go through college.  Isner did (Georgia I believe).  Most of these kids are turning to the pro ranks younger and younger (especially in the female game).  By the time you spread the talent to D1 it's hard for a school like Youngstown State to compete for recruits against schools out west and down south or even the major programs that have on campus tennis facilities that make the Boardman Tennis Center look sad.  Just do a facility check on at these major campuses.  Indoor facilites and outdoor facilites that get resurfaced yearly.  You ever see the outdoor courts at YSU (did they get rid of them yet), cracks everywhere, at least the last time I seen them.

I've sat through a lot of bad basketball going to games with my dad since I was young.  I remember sitting at games where it seemed we couldnt make a free throw and our only points would come off of a Leroy King dunk.  This stuff is great to watch.  Go Penguins.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Minnesota QB Philip Nelson to transfer
« on: January 19, 2014, 12:50:38 PM »
The Gophers would crush NDSU next season.  Gophers return a solid core of talent on offense, and losing Nelson just opens the door for Mitch Liedner to take a majority of the snaps...who I've been more impressed with of the two.

Gophers will be a top half Big Ten team next season.  Remember, this young team over achieved this season beating Nebraska, Penn State and went toe-to-toe with Wisconsin and Michigan State.  Gophers are in way better shape than NDSU in coming years.

We answered our own question when most people said they could care less who won the FCS title.  As everyone is saying, no one outside of FCS schools really care...and judging by the attendence this season, the Mahoning Valley can care less.  Basketball all the way...and this could be the year.

Ps...Keene reminds me of Doug Underwood some (on the basketball court that is), I love it.

You can say this is a bad idea all you want, but to my 90 some year old grandpa who is shacked up in assisted living, this game being on tv will be three of the greatest hours for this old YSU alum.

were these buildings we are comparing built around the same time?  Seriously I remember going to game there a few years ago during the Robic years and it felt as if I was walking into Beeghly.  I wonder if they had the same architect firm.
