Down 10 at half and NCO has had a lot of lay ups(common theme).  We're 3 of 12 from the line.

Sums it up perfectly...once again too man uncontested 3's/layups & continued poor foul shooting.  Cam looks good & is keeping YSU in the game.

Tip of the hat to Westminster, you guys were smarter and tougher and would have won at your place.

1. Can some one please explain what kind of offense we are running.  I'm not being cynical, maybe a little dense.

2. Not good having a 6'4" post player taking it to us. We are soft in the post.

3.Some of the frosh need less minutes except Garrett Covington.

4. Would like to see the best players on the floor getting a little more time as a cohesive unit rather than the massive substitutions.

5. Garrett Covington might be the 2nd best Covingtonto ever play at YSU.  seriously,he might be our best on ball defender and he has surpassed my expectations.  He's playing so far beyond his youth.

6. On to South Dakota !  Hopefully we can get a win or two.

This really sums up my thoughts.

Westminster definitely came prepared, played harder & wanted it more until YSU wore them down in the 2nd half.  Got to give them a lot of credit.  They are going to win a lot of games this year.  They didn't look like a Div III school.

Nice to see Strollo knock down all 3 3's.  Thought Cam looked better tonight & hopefully with Ferguson coming back that will get Cam going.  Covington has really impressed me.  He really gets after it and puts in 100%.  Was scary how Braun landed on his ankle in the 2nd half- was surprised he came back in.  YSU came into the game shooting 57% at the line and shot right at 57%- definitely disappointing.  I missed the bickering on the bench Coach Calhoun alluded to doing the post-game interview, but I guess it's not surprising how it was going toward the end of the 1st half.  It looked like during that stretch YSU was just going through the motions.

Until YSU can figure out the defense, I'm not sure how many games we're going to win.  Really should have been able to force a lot more turnovers with the full court pressing.  Way too many easy baskets again.  I feel like the talent is there that's what has to be concerning for the coaching.

We looked good in spurts, but just not putting in a full 40-minute game.  The uncontested layups & wide open 3's can't happen & were clearly the difference.  Think they said that was the 1st time Canisius scored over 100 at home since '89 to a Div 3 team & was their first triple double in school history.  Tough to continue to see Cam continue to struggle shooting.  Foul shooting continues to be disappointing...57% for the year.  Hartfield had a tremendous yet, yet missed 7 foul shots.  Will be nice to get Ferguson back & Santiago seems to be getting closer to 100%.  Anyone know what was up with Tyree Robinson, who started against KSU & played 15 against Franciscan?

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Basketball atmosphere at Akron

I t sounds as though Akron has nice support for their team which happens from winning.   I watched our game from 1000 miles away on espn3 and the place looked empty.  Thought with the success and proximity that Kent would have a large fan base there.

Yeah I was kind of shocked there weren't more people for the second game and with what you said about Kent and people wanting to see the new YSU product.  I think there were more people last year at Beeghly for the YSU-Akron game.  The crowd Saturday was what I'd consider a good crowd at Beeghly but probably was 1/4 of the first game.

I thought the same thing.  I got there at halftime & it definitely was a good atmosphere.  I was actually a little surprised Kent State didn't have a better fan following.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: YSU vs Kent State

Came out and played hard for about 18 mins or so.  Kent State seemed to be getting frustrated & were out-hustled early.  That run at the end of the 1st half by Kent State turned the tide.  I thought there were some opportunities in the first half to build a lead, but couldn't get the bounces to go our way and the continued horrid free throw shooting.

The 2nd half felt like a D1 team playing a D2 team.  YSU looked gassed.  I really didn't understand the continued full court press the 2nd half when it was clear they were beating us down the court & yielding layups and dunks one after another.  Outside of the Ohio State game last year, that's the worst defeat since some blowout Horizon League losses late 2 years ago.  Santiago not at 100% really hurt & it looked like Ferguson took a shot to the face the first half & didn't play after that.

I'm not really surprised to see Williams & Rosic go.  I thought early in the season Williams was going to be a huge pickup for YSU.  He was very impressive in the Akron win, but he just never seemed to recover from his injury...same with Rosic.  Neither just mentally seemed to be in the game at times.  Rosic seemed slow and confused at times when he had the ball.  Honestly doesn't even seem like a Division I athlete.  Williams seemed to make to many mental mistakes, which was disappointing because it seemed like he had the talent.

I really did like Latin Davis, and am disappointed to see him go with 2 years left.  He seemed like a great person and was very exciting at times to watch.  He impressed me with what he could at his size.  He did seem to be inconsistent though and I wondered if he'd stick around.

Hopefully Calhoun can do something that John Robic and Jerry Slocum could not do, and this get this program on the short term to the middle of the pack on a consistent basis and then eventually every so often make a tournament run.

The best news for YSU would be if Calhoun were here 4-5 years, and moved on.  Get this program headed the right way, and take a better job.

It will be very difficult though, we all got caught up in the win over Oakland, but other than that win, this past season was a disaster.   Although we return Cam Morse, we have no size and strength inside.

Head basketball coach at YSU is a very hard job.  We have no tradition and there are teams in our league who are basketball schools.  I certainly wish him the best, but this will be a very difficult challenge ahead.

I'd agree with most everything you said though I wouldn't completely say the season was a disaster.  I think the number of wins was disappointing; however, I thought the team competed hard and was competitive most nights unlike the last 2 seasons.  They had good wins against Akron, road wins against Wright State & Green Bay, Northern Kentucky, and of course Oakland.  They took Toledo to OT.  Should have beaten Milwaukee on the road if it wasn't for a missed traveling call.  The UIC games went right down to the end, one in OT, but lost both.  The Wright State went down to the wire at home.  The Valpo games were competitive this year unlike the past.  We really played Michigan State tough without Cam.

On that note there certainly were bad losses.  Canisius, American, and the 2 Detroit losses.  Totally uncompetitive in the 2nd Oakland game and the 2nd Cleveland St game wasn't pretty.

On a side note, does anyone know why Brett Frantz didn't play in the final game?  I know he had struggled of late, but I thought that was very odd he didn't get any minutes.  Tough not to play in your final game when you played in every one.

The amount of national publicity this received is incredible. Reminds me of Kevin Reader's TD catch!

What an amazing college basketball game from start-to-finish!  YSU is finally playing like the team one envisioned earlier in the year.  It's been a long time since they won back-to-back Horizon League games.  So happy the seniors are getting a chance to enjoy success.

And now Valpo gets knocked off by Milwaukee!  4 tourney games and all upset.  The only team left YSU hasn't beaten this year that's left is UIC and easily could have won both with one going to OT & the other down to the wire.

Very nice win.  I'm glad the seniors got to enjoy another win and experience a post-season victory.  If it was the last win, I'm glad to see Donlan & Kaufman play well.  Tonight was the way I think many envisioned this team to play this year.  Shot the ball well from all over the field, made foul shots, played smart and unselfishly.  The intensity & hustle was there all night long.  Hatfield continues to impress.  Hopefully they can keep him around the next 3 years.

Wishing now Valpo had gotten the #1 seed.  We played them better this year than in recent years and seemed more competitive than we were against Oakland.  Then throw in Alec Peters out and it would have been interesting.

If it's ranked 20t, the Horizon league is not above our heads.  We just need a coach who can players in the program and provide some continuity.  Our top players or prospective top players leaving every year is not going to cut it.   How may we lose every year ?  Three or four?

We only lost Jordan Andrews this year.  A non-related basketball incident happened with Sidney Umude this summer.  Not sure his status for the future.  It was a shame to lose him.

Really don't think you can blame foul shooting on Slocum. Frantz, Donlan, Santiago & Davis have been excellent at the line. Morse has hit been hit & miss from the line this year. 8 of 10 last night but overall shooting under 70% which is disappointing. The rest of the team is unacceptable. It's hard to believe Haygood is as bad as he is & hard to imagine anyone can be that bad at this level. It's really to the point it's a detriment when he's fouled shooting if he doesn't score.

I think we'll get at least 3 more wins. I think we'll beat Detroit, UIC & win 1 or 2 against Cleveland State, Wright State & Oakland
