“@RumorsCoach: Ethan Faulkner is the heavy favorite at Youngstown State and it may happen today“

Link: https://x.com/rumorscoach/status/1774050550528508042?s=61

I figured he would be the guy being he has the title Associate Head Coach and seems poised to take the next step. Curious if going internal will help keep the remaining roster intact.

@Samurai_hoops: Early indications to The Dojo are that Youngstown St is strongly considering promoting from within…#StayTuned

My guess would be Ethan Faulkner.

@PeterThamel: Sources: Utah State is finalizing a deal to hire Jerrod Calhoun as the school’s next head coach. He’s the head coach at Youngstown State, which he’s led to back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in school history.

Coach Calhoun appears to be a finalist for the Utah State job now that Toledo’s coach turned them down:
@TrillyDonovan: The other Todd and Jerrod Calhoun are the next men up at Utah State.

According to WKBN press release ONLY the wooden bleachers will be replaced as part of Phase 1 starting in May.
I don’t think that story gave an accurate assessment of what is being done.

Read this Trib article that goes in detail of the types of chairbacks for the lower section and the upper section:
https://www.tribtoday.com/sports/local-sports/2024/02/beeghly-center-scores-2m-seating-upgrades/

“The old wooden bleachers on the upper tier of both sides and the existing red seatbacks in the bottom tier will be removed and replaced with new and improved seatbacks.

The student section, pep band and general admission bleachers above the baselines will remain.

Strollo said the new seats will be wider and will have additional depth between rows for increased legroom. The chairbacks in the lower tier will have armrests and cup holders installed into each seat, while the upper tier chairbacks will not have armrests or cup holders.”

Wright State Head Coach Scott Nagy has landed the SIU job which Calhoun interviewed for. We will see what other schools he interviews with this offseason.

Last season on the Coaches Show Tyshon King had mentioned he had an additional year of eligibility, so having him return was fully expected. We certainly have a very strong group of backs on the roster. Hoping the QB competition we see brings out the best in those guys!

I am a bit behind, but I have been tracking here. Loiseau committed to YSU over nearly 2 dozen other G5/FCS teams.

We have some other offers to add.

Former Ursuline QB Brady Shannon has committed to Youngstown State. In HS he was a 3-Star QB that we had offered. He ultimately chose to play D1 Baseball at UCF. However last month he announced he was entering the transfer portal to play D1 football.

In his senior year at Ursuline he threw for 2,829 yards and 24 TD's, while throwing 12 int's. He completed 194/315 (61.5%) of his passes. He also rushed for 832 yards on the ground, where he racked up 8 more TD's. He is 6'3" and 210 pounds.

At the very least thing brings competition to the roster as we know this is a critical position to fill with Mitch Davidson graduating. We will see how he looks in spring ball along with Beau and the two others.

I see the game is on ESPN+, no local TV from what I see. It would be good to attract the average fan to YSU football by having it on local TV. Anyone know the reason no local TV? Also it seems ESPN is using their own announcers so naybe the cost to broadcast locally may be high or they won't sell it.
ESPN+ has exclusive rights for the first two rounds, although SIU vs Idaho got picked up by ESPN2. Next week ABC will broadcast a game nationally.

Who is making the trip to Villanova!? Looking forward to being there Saturday!

43
We have a contingent heading out to Villanova. Been going to the YSU web page but no info on anything about the trip, tickets, team hotel, tailgating, etc…. Anyone hear anything!?!?

Go Guins!
Ticket info has been released from Youngstown State:
https://ysusports.com/news/2023/11/28/football-second-round-playoff-tickets-available-through-ysu.aspx

Hopefully we can easily fill the initial allotment of tickets we have been awarded!

Strollo bid 20k seats. I bet it is about half the selling price, so that would be about $10 x 20k or $200,000 we paid the NCAA to host. Does not matter how many people actually show, we still owe. I doubt we have ever recovered our payout, even in the 90's. Believe me, He bought us into the post-season. I have to respect that.

It honestly felt like more than 3800 were in the stands. I was going to guess closer to 5k.

Anyway don't get too down on the attendance figures Thanksgiving weekend is just a bad weekend for small college football. I've been going to Mount Union playoff games for years, and thanksgiving weekend is Always sparsely attended compared to the rest of their games.

It's a combination of travel plans, students not being on campus etc.

Didn't look like 3800 on the tube..

I thought that 3800 was low! Thought that it was better to report a low number to save some bucks.
As Wick stated, your figure of $200,000 is very inaccurate. Dana Balash had a story on this. The bid was $50,000 for Round 1: https://www.wfmj.com/story/50033466/penguins-paying-dollar50k-to-host-playoff-game

This has been stated multiple times in the past... bids are not opened until AFTER the field has been set. The idea Strollo bought us into the playoffs is also inaccurate. Our body of work is what got us into the field, the bid likely secured us a home playoff game with how the tournament is regional in nature in Round 1.

Lastly, bids are submitted weeks in advance as they seek them out from teams in contention.

Interesting.

That is purely a speculative tweet from a fan of the conference. Do not read anything into it. They don't have any interest.
