I previously said I wouldn't pay for it but I am.   It was $15 on flo which has had some history of poor productions.   Hopefully there's no clitches.

Where has the faithful Penguin fan gone?  The lack of interest in YSU football is scary.  I realize times have changed and forums may be a thing of the past but where is the energy?  You have to question if the coach is the right fit?  No need to worry though Strollo has him locked down for the foreseeable future!

Coach Phillips teams have improved which could be viewed and interpreted differently based on how bad his first couple of seasons have gone to where YSU finished last season.
My biggest concern has been the the number of players on defense that fled through the transfer portal.   At the same time is that Phillips' fault or Players taking advantage of NIL and financial gain which most of us would do the same if we were in their shoes.

I have listened to a few interviews with coach saying that this guy or another has played a lot of football speaking of new defenders that were backups and now it's time to step up and be the 1st teamer that is expected and why you were recruited to YSU.
Are these guys better or as good as the ones who fled and played behind ?    Are the transfers brought in an actual upgrade ?

No one can answer those questions until we see the product on the field and how it plays out over the course of the season.   It's mostly about recruiting and developing and now retaining players year to year.   Not to mention bringing the right fit from the portal.

This season should be a good indicator of coach Phillips and the YSU program.    Your record tells exactly where you're at.   I'd probably give coach a pass if the season doesn't go well since breaking in a new QB and how hard he got hit with defectors but coach is 100% accountable for what goes on within the program.

I have no way of knowing if this is another playoff potential team or not and the Villanova game might be an indicator but I'm still going to support and cheer on coach and the penguins.

My experience with flo is one and done.  I'm a big fan of college wrestling and they broadcast a lot of matches plus they have other real neat content.   My problem was I thought I was paying for one month on a month to month basis but had my creditcard was billed on an annual basis.  It might of changed since this was about 5 years ago but unfortunately I won't watch the game since they're involved.

Youngstown, OH. — A lack of loyalty and trust to the program was evident specifically on the defensive side of the ball throughout the course of YSU’s 8-5 season. Communication appeared to be an issue in the backend of the defense and tempers flared whenever a mistake was made during a game. Immediately after the season concluded, several important players rushed to the portal and others followed suit until there was almost nobody left on the defense. It was later revealed that multiple players on YSU’s defense were tampered with before a crucial second round matchup vs Villanova. At the sight of a couple more thousand dollars in cash and an FBS name to play under, high ego characters lost focus on a key playoff game and worried only about themselves. They found an escape route, a place to depart to if there was a negative outcome.

Quinpen,I totally missed that paragraph because I wanted to read more down the article about who may start especially on defense since there has been so little information.   That is a very damaging statement and I think in last night podcast coach Phillips alluded to this but didn't get into specifics although he maintained that he's accountable and wants to make sure that he and the coaching staff have the loyalty of the players and they want to be at YSU.

Nice write up where the writer has a good idea who the starters are especially on D.

So if we are doing so well why do so many football players transfer out?   Cannot be making more somewhere else right?
I continue to belive that most of out transfers out went with our blessing. We lost a bunch of defensive players from a bad defense. I can only think of one los I wish had stayed.

Is this fact or just an opinion.  I hope you are right but I find it hard to think that the coaching staff felt that it was good that last seasons starters on defense were better off transferring and that they could replace  them with better players from the transfer portal.   I'd be curious which guys are an up grade on the Dline or linebackers.   Especially since the guys that transferred went to actual D1 programs like Kansas,Illinois and Duke.
I would have had Wodke and Howard back even though Dylan's production dropped way off in 2023. We lost a bunch of DBs that couldn't cover me. When somebody says "I continue to believe"  a reasonable person would assume its an opinion. Your "fact" question is ignored and unappreciated.

Go,don't be so sensitive with dropping "unappreciated".  I ask only since I don't know if some posters have inside information or know some one close to the program or maybe you have been to practices.  I speculate on this board too but when you mentioned players left and it was a blessing I thought there was inside info.   Didn't pick up"believe"  when I read your post.

Not sure if this says much and the first link seems to conflate rankings of recruits more than NIL mony but it gives some idea how much money the big boys are paying out.   Hard to believe YSU can raise money to compete with these monsters.  I'm sure Wick is reporting what he read so  no swipe at him.

Chezmustache, are you trying to say Duke is not coming to Beeghly : ;D.

I think you're actually using too much commonsense  and actual real data for us "we want it all now" crowd.

Reality and truth is such a burden on false narratives.

Interview with coach Faulkner.   Nothing too exciting .   Said that Dynes is up to 240 lbs and mentioned that David Wilkerson was in the running to be the starting PG last year before he got injured.

Coach sounded very positive.  Not sure if he has an alternative but it's year 5 for Phillips and there is no room for excuses as there was when he took over for Pelini.   I'm concerned about all the guys on defense that transferred and most when to a higher conference which leads to ask did the transfer portal make up for those defenders that left ?

I hope I'm wrong but I think this team will have a rough year.  A lot of youth so it's going to be a process.
