YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Message to Strollo

I spoke with AD at game last night.  YSU had a lock on playoff until we lost.  It did not matter what Indiana State did.  We would have played James Madison at home.   Illinois State had 4 loses against FBS teams and since they didn't play a BCS team they were looked at like a 6-5 compared to the others.  They really had to beat UNI to get in.  Overall, the field of 20 was not as strong as last year.  The last selections became a matter of who can we find to get in rather than who gets eliminated from the tournament.

Never put yourself in position of having to win last game.  No question in my mind, but too many of players thought game over at half time.  Maybe this is blessing in disguise as team weaknesses came to light when a win was a must.  Overall it is a young team and 18-19 year old kids will hopefully mature and realize their mistakes and correct them.  (Also would help to have some coaching improvement.).  Next year is the measurement year for this regime.

We were at the game.  Coach's interview is spot on.  Their center looks like a true tight end.  We could not move him at all.  This will be a problem all year unless one of the bench players can get more physical with opponent big man. BTW their center was second team All-American last year in their division so he is a decent player.   We are mostly a perimeter team with some good shooters.  No doubt second half was due to loss of concentration as the game was in the bag by the 12 minute mark of first half.  Oh yes, that dude that Paladin said couldn't shoot now has over 100 3 pointers in his career.  :)   Team shares the ball well.  Looks like they are together as a group.  They gave Amiker a standing O when he scored his first basket.  Brooks had tough night shooting but played hard.  Maybe to was trying too hard and not relaxed.  Give 'em a bit of time.  Just wish our big guys had another 20 pounds on them.

YSU 27 to 7

Defense better than we've seen in long time.

We'll be staying home.  See you in a couple of weeks when we take on mighty Valpo.

My wife went to this and enjoyed it very much.  This program was started by Steve Spurrier and has been picked up by several coaches nation wide.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: YSU 62 Butler 60

First half YSU had 1 turnover.  Halfway through second half it was only up to 4 turnovers.  That can make up for being out rebounded.  Seemed like Butler always had 4 guys around basket for rebounds while YSU seemed to be falling back .  D.E. played a superstar game.  Also the team was not as selfish.  Lot of driving to attract double team then dishing off to open man.  Played very strong defense.
