She is the latest in the impressive list of quality centers that we have been so fortunate to acquire over the years. Considering that she can score, defend, and rebound at a high level, she just might be the best in the modern era. It has been a pleasure to watch her perform for these two years.

No matter what happened today, we would have needed to defeat Milwaukee to win the regular season title. Nothing has changed. Win the last four and nobody can catch us. After Milwaukee we finish with the three lowest rated NCAA NET teams in the conference.  No excuses.

In the last 4 games, Milwaukee has lost to Wright St, trailed NKU by 23 before coming back to win by 1, beat IUPUI by only 3 & now lost to GB.

Looking at statistics from conference-only games, Milwaukee has a scoring margin of only +2.4 per game. We lead the league with a scoring margin of +9.1.  There is a reason why we are well ahead of them in the NCAA NET ratings. Just get the job done on the road and then play up to our abilities against Milwaukee next Thursday.

Yes, this is the second batch of recruits.

Phillips' strategy to build strength on the lines is now quite clear.  He is recruiting tall linemen that weigh much less than 300 pounds.  He is confident that he can add bulk on those frames in the 2 plus years it will take for them to see the field. At the FCS level that makes sense.

For some odd reason, our outside shooting has been terrible at home this season.  But when you play consistently good defense, you always have a chance. That was certainly the case yesterday.

He looks good on the video highlights.   Finds open receivers.  Maybe he is going to be a redshirt.

That is encouraging.  For 2023 as the roster is currently constituted, I suspect Brungard and the kid from Pittsburgh will back up Davidson, while Ballone and this kid from Springfield will redshirt.

OK, that makes more sense. I could not comprehend how we landed an Ohio D1 qb with those career stats.  Hey, three highly touted lower division players competing for the job in 2024.  One might be for real.

8-2 at the turn of league play. 6 home games in the second half. We are still in this thing although Green Bay has a very easy schedule with only one road game against a contender (us.)

The first half of league competition ends tomorrow when Oakland goes to Detroit.  Looking at the schedules, we are in good shape.  We have just 4 roads games, only 1 against a contender (CSU.) Of course, we also can't beat middle-of-the-pack Fort Wayne.

Northern Kentucky is on the road 7 times in the second half, facing three contenders.

Milwaukee has 5 road games with two contenders (NKU and YSU.)

Cleveland State has 4 road games with two contenders.

Oakland has 4 road games in the second half (plus Monday at Detroit) with two contenders.

Wow indeed! I'm impressed  Have we ever recruited a DI "passer" with these types of credentials?  I wonder how we got him.  Great job Phillips and staff.

Everybody stepped up. If Shy had made her last free throw, all the starters would have scored in double-figures. It is rare that any team can shoot 46% against Green Bay in their gym.  And we held them to 7 for 27 shooting in the second half.

Just a caution for those of you outside the area. This kid played extremely weak competition in high school. His stats don't really mean very much. That being said, good players can come from anywhere. This is a big, athletic kid that plays multiple sports.  He is certainly worth a look.

unless we get help in terms of portal transfers for next year we are going to be in deep trouble.   Most of the bench is weak and don't contribute much at least on the road.   So we will probably hit the portal hard.  Are any of the seniors eligible to get an extra year next year?????

Oh we will be a bottom feeder unless Calhoun hits the portal hard. Hardly any contributions from undercla$$men. Lovelace can take a big step but other than that who else is there?? Hunter, Rathan Mayes, Dunn, and Lovelace??
We will be where GB is now. Better make it count this season!

Very true.  However, we could have said the same thing at the end of last season.  What did we have returning besides Cohill? Basically nothing. All Calhoun did was acquire FOUR starters in the portal to play with his one remaining asset. He could do it again.  Working the portal is now the main requirement for a successful mid-major coach.

After watching Milwaukee play Wright State, this is a bad matchup for us. Milwaukee presses everywhere and their entire offense consists of driving to the hoop. We are challenged handling the ball and often helpless against dribble penetration. I sure hope the team proves me wrong.

A terrible loss that will probably destroy the season.  We will likely return from Wisconsin at 6-4 and heading nowhere.  It was shocking to see such poor defense and inept offense. This team plays hard but the chemistry just is not there. And we are now appreciating just how good Chelsea Olson was.
