YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Signing Day 2020

It was nice to see us sign a true FB. That's a blast from the past.

I can't remember the last true FB we had off the top of my head that saw any significant reps. Deke Ison maybe?

Big time commit just now for the Guins.

Demeatric Crenshaw, a 6-2 dual threat QB from Pickerington Central.

Offers from BC, Cincy, Toledo, Indiana, Kentucky and Louisville.

Wow, what a great get. I cannot wait to see how this plays out.

ESPN has him ranked as a 4 star, #19 Dual threat QB.

They also list an offer from Ga Tech but don't show us as offering or accepted yet.

what does that say about YSU since we can't even get into the play-offs

It tells us that we let the wrong coach go 3 years ago.

UNC Charlotte would disagree  :o

lol  1 year in a program that was ready to fire it's coach. I said he was a good coach, not a miracle-worker.

Haha I don't really care how many times he gets fired I just knew you'd have to run to his aid, I couldn't help myself.

This is going to look like everyone elses Im afraid.

4 D End. Wow do we lose a lot here.

Assuming we lose Reed, and the fact we are losing Richmond
Are we losing Reed?  IF we loose Reed and Richmond then your point #4 is 100% valid, but I think there is a good chance at least one, and maybe both are back.

I hope you are right. I have no inside info here, but if I was a coach trying to project what I need next year I'd work under the assumption that those guys are walking until they tell me otherwise. Getting both back would be amazing, we'd have the best D-line in the FCS. Someone like Carl can do wonders with that, and it can cover a lot of other shortcomings on that side of the ball.

1. O-line. If I could make this #1 through #5 I would. I'm surprised we won as many games as we did with that tackle play.

2. Coordinators. Move Carl to D Coordinator. Get a recruiting coordinator. A new O coordinator wouldn't break my heart.

3. Kicker. Find a kid that can put kickoffs into the end zone 80% of the time or more. That's all he has to do if he can place kick that's a bonus.

4 D End. Wow do we lose a lot here.

5. Cornerbacks - We ask our CB to play a lot of press man. Assuming we lose Reed, and the fact we are losing Richmond and Bynum our corners are going to have to stick with their men even longer next year. The kids we have now, for whatever reason, don't attempt to turn their heads and locate the ball, resulting in a ton of PI penalites. That needs to change they are a big Achilles heel and will be exploited big time next season unless something changes schematically or talent wise.

No local coverage on it at all. YSU administration trying to sweep it under the rug and make it seem like not a big deal as usual.

Thanks Chief. I'm not surprised by that in the least...which is sad to say.

I wonder what their plan is if this breaks nationally, which it very well could. Very timely topic for some young journalist looking to make a splash. The SJW crew would eat them alive.

Some of you are unreal. The fact this kid is HEAD COACH of WOMENS tennis is unbelievable. Typical YSU and Youngstown culture though.

Yeah this looks terrible and it's mind boggling how it could ever have happened.

That being said, I believe I read that JT signed an extension yesterday and isn't going anywhere, so business as usual I guess. No harm no foul? I'd say Strollo is safe unless there is a huge public outcry around this. I'm not in the area but I don't get the feeling this is getting much traction locally? Is that accurate?

Bo may very well understand the game, but it does not seem that he is a players coach. Maybe he can change this, I guess that he has three years to prove it.

Big difference between Nebraska and YSU is obviously the budget, can't afford to hire folks to cover some of his weaknesses, whether it be player relationships or X's and o's.

Any idea how his salary compares to other hc's in the league? What about assistants?

We are near the bottom if not the lowest paid.

I'm a little surprised by this. I'm not saying you are wrong, its just odd to me.

I would say we likely have among the BEST, if not the top, facilities in the conference. This is a weird disparity.

To me, college football success is 90% recruiting. Every hire we make should be evaluated as both a coach and recruiter equally. We can't just hire young guys and hope they have the energy and drive to figure it out. Adding accomplished recruiters with tons of established connections should be a very high priority.

We've all seen what Bo can do with a talented team. If they made it to the NC because or despite him is open for debate, but he did get us there.

The other 10% of college football success is in game adjustments. Yeah we lose that one almost every week LOL.

We played a team missing 2 OL and their QB. Their top TB was playing at maybe 50%. Of course none of this will change this year. a 100% ILS would have beat up on us like SIU.
I think WE were missing a couple OL and our QB?  Next man up.  Trying to make excuses for winning is as poor as making excuses for losing.  We beat the up front, all day long, both sides of the ball.  Not our fault our freshman QB is better than their freshman QB.  Not our fault our guys played harder than their guys.

Exactly, we were not 100% either. That was a nice win.

It’s cool they won.  But if the best thing that we can point to is our Bowling team is doing well shows how bad things are with Football.  Nobody cares about bowling.  Nobody.  If we are wanting to be the elite of the minor sports we need to drop down to Div. 2.

You're right, we had another disappointing football season.

You're right, nobody cares about bowling.

Let the lady bowlers enjoy this one you old grouch  ;D its a good story anyway.

With the  scheduling of these Southland teams teams recently. I wonder how much it has do do with the bowling team being affliated with the Southland.
you think we are scheduling football to support women's bowling?  seriously?

That's not how I took his statement.

Me either. I assumed he meant maybe our AD is becoming more familiar with those in the Southland due to bowling, and that may lead to football games with those schools...right?

I hope they surprise me but I don't see us being able to afford any coordinators that are going to "wow" us with their resumes.

That being said I will welcome the changes and the attempt to improve because staying with the status quo with the current staff would be throwing next year away before it even begins.

I'm going to guess (hope) Carl returns to D coordinator\assistant head coach and maybe we change a few other position coaches also.

would not want to be on the same bus as Bo

I would. I'd like to have a few minutes to ask him exactly WTF is going on with this program.

I can't honestly believe that you are proposing to add a high school coach as the OC. This is exactly how we ended up where we are. We need to get some top graduate assistants that are completing their time and are ready to coach at the college level. Our problem was not the OC. The problem is the OL coach and the D'alesio mess.

Exactly this...all of it.
