YSU Penguin Athletics / ESPN with some love for Kendrick Perry
« on: August 30, 2013, 01:45:39 PM »
Story about who might be the next NBA player from a mid-major, aka Gordon Heyward and CJ McCallum.

In addition to KP, include Brown from UWGB and Braun from NDSU.  Its worth a read.

Kendrick Perry, 6-0, 175, PG, Sr., Youngstown State Penguins -- He’s extremely quick, and can score at all three levels -- from deep, mid-range and also in the lane. He still needs to continue to get stronger, but he averaged 17.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists last season and has a bit of Norris Cole in his game.

Saw Twitter reports that 6-0 PG Justice Green (2014) of Flint Powers Catholic (MI) will be taking an unofficial visit to YSU Thursday.

I am unsure as to whether Green has an offer, but he will join Ray Croon on an unofficial visit (and I would suspect there are more we do not know about)

The Cleveland Browns plan to sign running back Jamaine Cook today following a tryout and running back Dion Lewis' broken fibula, according to a league source.

Lewis is expected to undergo surgery and will be placed on injured reserve.

This marks Cook's second stint with the Browns after being waived earlier this year when the team signed Miguel Maysonet.

The former Youngstown State standout rushed for 4,052 yards in college with 39 touchdowns.

Cook rushed for more than 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns in three seasons as a starter, including 1,279 yards and 15 touchdowns last season.

YSU added a CB transfer, DeVon McKoy, out of Bowling Green today. Wolford said the addition was not related to Peterman suspension.

McKoy is a redshirt junior out of Reynoldsburg and had dropped to third team on the BGSU depth chart.  His release from BGSU was reported today.

Honorable mention academic all-MAC for two years.

DeVon McKoy who had played in 18 games, with eight starts, has left the Bowling Green football team.
A redshirt junior, McKoy was a cornerback for the Falcons.

‘‘DeVon McKoy asked for his release and we granted it to him,’’ BG head coach Dave Clawson said Wednesday.

There has been an intense competition for playing time at cornerback and McKoy had dropped to the third team and was the fifth cornerback overall.

Cameron Truss is the starter at the boundary corner while Darrell Hunter and Aaron Foster are competing for the field corner spot. Will Watson is the fourth corner.

‘‘DeVon was a guy who started two years ago for us and wants to start,’’ Clawson said. ‘‘We surely wish we could have kept him here. We didn’t want him to leave because he gave us depth and also did a great job on special teams for us.

‘‘He wants to go somewhere that he can start, and he has two years left to play,’’ he continued. ‘‘We’re disappointed that he’s leaving, but we understand and wish him the best.’’

McKoy twice earned All-Mid-American Conference academic honorable mention honors at Bowling Green.

I saw a note this morning that Jim Cleamons was named an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks.

This got me thinking as to where are the other former YSU men's basketball head coaches:

Mike Rice is an announcer for the Portland Trail Blazers.

John Stroia is the general manager of The Fieldhouse in Merrillville, Indiana.  We drove past the facility a few weeks ago and I had no idea Coach Stroia was involved

http://www.thefieldhouse-merrillville.com/contact-us------staff-directory.php

Dan Peters is Director of Basketball Operations at Akron

John Robic is an Assistant Coach at the University of Kentucky.

I knew of these, but not all.

As a junior Olson averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds per game for a 22-4 3A Sectional Championship.  Morgan had 16 double doubles.

Olson was one of 15 players named to the All-State underclass team by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Associaton

Indiana and Kentucky play annual boys and girls All-Star games each summer.  Seniors play in the game, but play two tune-up games against junior All-Stars.  The juniors have six core players who play both games, plus 12 players who play in only one game.  Olson was named as one of the 12 who played in only game.

Long and springy, perhaps the most exciting player in the event. Had multiple breathtaking blocks and dunks. I will swing by the gym he is in each chance I get.
