You would think that YSU would be overwhelming us with pictures and videos to build up interest and excitement. They are missing an opportunity to sell the university, they have dropped the ball.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: MBB Non-Conference Schedule
« on: July 02, 2024, 11:13:20 AM »
Why do we play at Toledo?  When are they coming here to play?  Cannot get any reputable d1 schools to come here.  Sounds mind boggling.  Men's schedule going to suck for beeghly.   So maybe 12 home games and 10 are in conference.   I hope the one game needed to be added is a home game.  Newly refurbished Beeghly and lack of home games?  Nice should have left it the same then.

Just a guess but maybe it is all about getting some more $$$$$

I've heard the same about the coach hired early on in the process and from what I've heard the budget that was going to be at his disposal including his and staff salary and other budget issues was the driving force behind his backing out.

I hate hearing things like this, if you can't do it right don't do it.

There is a media report that assistant coach Trevor Charpie will be promoted to the top job.

On the surface, I find it strange that you would elevate an assistant from such a bad program. On the other hand, Charpie was here only one season, so he is hardly to blame for the bad recruiting and high turnover in the program.  Also, he was a minor league pitcher, and boy do we need to improve that vital phase of the game.

We shall see how this works out. Perhaps this was the best Strollo could do for this less than attractive job.

YSU “hired” another coach… he met with the team and everything and then called Strollo a few hours later to back out. This guy was the best we could do given the circumstances, and I mean no disrespect.

When did this happen

I just cannot wrap my head around all these reasons as to why we can or cannot afford to move up. I read posts that explain how it can be done, and they make sense, and then posts that explain why it is crazy to even consider it and they make sense.

I try to be a logical person and when I have seen so many schools make the move in the past years, some used to be D2, logic makes me wonder why they are able to do it but not YSU. What would make us so different, why would we be unique?

The landscape of college sports is changing at an alarming rate, and not for the best in my opinion, but the change is not going to stop any time soon. I can only hope that our leadership has the vision and wisdom to position us where we need to be, but I am not as confident as I was years ago.

Sadly it would seem that FCS football is on death’s doorstep. Recent teams moving to FBS is only the beginning. Whether we want to believe it or not, the MAC is a better place for kids to play than FCS. It doesn’t matter that the top couple of teams in FCS could beat them regularly, it is D1 FBS. Period. FCS is basically a farm system at this point, with minimal interest except for a handful of schools.

I agree

Not going to change anytime soon.   Get used to it. It's 2024.

Unfortunately.  I'd like to see a one-time transfer or the ability to if the head coach leaves otherwise you sit out a year

I agree

He plans on doing both.  Good luck greenbay

It almost seems like a joke. I can't imagine what Green Bay fans are thinking.  Got things turned around last year and your coach leaves and now this.  Seems like it could be circus.

Hope that it works out for us.

I cannot imagine that the opportunity to move up in football will last very long, a lot of schools will have the same dream that Missouri St is now living but I do not see the G5 diluting itself by taking everyone that wants in. Probably too late already for most schools like YSU.

Does not seem that YSU has the aggressive attitude needed to stay relevant. Excuses are easier to find then solutions.

Football will suffer the most, unless we find some major NIL money, we will never be a factor in the play-offs again. The new reality with paying players means that you no longer will build a program, you will need to buy a program.

Is today the day that they start the upgrade?

It would be interesting to have a live feed video so we could watch the progress.
