Let's see what the defense does here. Can someone tell me why in week 12 we still do not throw under neath to Andre Stubbs or Christian Bryan? Christ let Wells throw some quick hits, build a little confidence.

Title: Re: YSU vs. NDSU game thread.
Post by: Lets_Talk on November 22, 2014, 04:19:49 PM
YSU is NOT a playoff team. And, I do not see how ANY person can think YSU is deserving of a playoff spot after these last 3 games(including today).

Forget the auto bids for NEC and Pioneeer. YSU is not on of the 24 best teams in FCS.... And, these past 3 games, actually past 4 given all the trouble YSU has beating SD, have proven this to be true.
Title: Re: YSU vs. NDSU game thread.
Post by: Dmorton on November 22, 2014, 04:20:28 PM
Bottom line is we should have never been in the situation where we had to win this game.  The two losses at home killed us.  Not hat I don't want to win, but constantly putting our team in the back to wall situations is getting tiresome year after year.

Score updates for "bubble teams"

Liberty 15 - Coastal Carolina 14 ... FINAL..... Liberty in playoffs
SDSU 31 - SD 0 ... 2nd qtr
WIU 17 - Indy State 12 ... 3rd qtr
Sam Houston 38 - Central Arkansas 28 ... 4th qtr
Colgate 21 - Bucknell 6.... FINAL... No playoffs for Bucknell

Neither does an FCS championship...technically football costs an athletic department and a university thousands of times more money than a track and field team.  Just sayin.

ysufan0505,

I've been saying that for several years. Cut back on football budget and put more money into men's Bball. YSU could cut back to 38 scholarships(or whatever max is in NEC) and see if they could join NEC for football. Would resolve travel issue, save money and still enable YSU to make playoffs in football.

Or, go non scholarship FCS and join Pioneer for football. Again, with auto bid, making playoffs would still be possible. Schedule could then be an FBS game for money, and OOC games in either scenario against NEC or Pioneer teams. Hey wait, that is same OOC schedule YSU has now.

Then pump money into mens basketball, more to women's basketball and whatever is left can be distributed among the Olympic Sports.

Post by: Lets_Talk on November 22, 2014, 04:45:08 PM
WIU 27 - Indy State 12 ... 4th qtr....same Indy State that won last week at YSU

SIU is losing 30-13 to ISU in 4th qtr

Means YSU will likely finish with ONE win over a team that is in the Top 25 at end of the season

Not unreal at all....Most dominant FCS program the last 4 seasons against the 6th place team in MVFC, and program with 1 trip to playoffs since 2000. And, game is at NDSU, where they have not lost since middle of 2012 season.

Pretty sad that Bob and Chris are resigned to fact they have sing ND St's praises on how good they are, and the first half is not even over.  All the practice in a loud environment was not going to prepare us for the beating we were going to get today.  The problem is we should ever have been in this situation if we would have took care of business at home.  SD and W Ill games took all the steam out of what was a good season.

Title: Re: YSU vs. NDSU game thread.
Post by: Lets_Talk on November 22, 2014, 05:20:30 PM
Honestly, how can Strollo and Tressel justify keeping Wolford after these final 3 games? YSU is making the NDSU QB look like the QB from Baylor. On top of that, Indy State is losing 27-12 in 4th qtr at WIU.

This is the 5th season for Wolford. He got pretty much everything he wanted. Pay close to or double that of Heacock. Higher pay for assistants. WATTS..upgrades to everything behind the scenes that needed upgraded. The guy came in talking brash from Day #1. Trashing Heacock from Day 1. Trashing the players still in program who were recruited by Heacock. That included players such as Kurt Hess, Jelani Barassa and Jamaine Cook. He made blanket statements about the ENTIRE ROSTER that he inherited.

Wolford constantly bashes players in the media. Get's mad at people for not going to games, then blames fans for making too much noise when YSU is on defense. Blames media for things that are not fault of media. Every year, attendance decreases. Attendance, actual in the stadium, is back to where it was the first few years under Tressel. Back when an FCS program was in it's infancy and being built.

If Wolford is the man he talks himself up to be, he will resign after this game. Wolford will have no problem finding an assistant coaching position at an FBS school. Between contacts he has himself, and those of Tressel, he will land at an FBS school as a position coach at worst. It's been 5 years. This is just not working. Cannot be much fun for anyone involved, including Wolford himself. So, why continue the misery and think things will be different "next year".

Who knows, maybe 5-10 years from now, Wolf can give being an HC a shot at a different school? He would not be the first person to have mediocre results in first time as HC, get fired/resign, go back to being an assistant, and then eventually get hired someplace else as HC. I do not know Wolford as a person. Only know what I see of him as HC. And, I truly believe the best thing for all involved is for Wolford to move on to another school. There might even be lower tier FCS schools that would hire Wolford as HC. And, again, at worst, he gets hired as a position coach at an FBS school in a "Power 5" Conference.

Seriously?? The better team did not win against WIU or ISU. So that is coaching!!  If you were to look at schedule at beginning of year you would be counting this as a loss. But the other two games. No reason for a loss. They don't want to play for this joke anymore. Get rid of him!

Anytime you throw more interceptions than you do TD's it's a negative. Especially when NDSU scored off all 3 takeaways.  :)

Thanks for the math primer so I guess if you throw 14 tds vs 7 ints means he is doing a decent job.

Has everyone lost perspective?   You've got a true freshman starting against the defending national champions.   The freshman cannot read a defense and it has been obvious since the South Dakota game at home.  As soon as any defense moves around he gets confused. When he made some nice throws the receivers put the ball on the ground.  This was a team loss.  Coaches and players.  The game is even at the half if we don't self destruct by spotting them 3 touchdowns.  Sick of the uninspired play.

It depends. Did the QB throw bubble screens or hit the back out of the backfield and watch them run 40 yards for the 14 TD's or did he stand up like a man and throw those TD's down the field into tight windows for score's? Also the 7 INT's on the year should have been 14 had the defenders caught the balls thrown right to them. You cannot argue that, including what should have been a pick 6 yesterday.

And YSU dropped its fair share of INTs as well!!!  That is a part of the game.  Or what about tipped balls that turn into INTs?  Or receivers who aren't where they're supposed to be?  Wells, I think he can be really good.  Hopefully he reflects on this season and comes out a better player next season.  He can be put under the microscope now, but I don't think that would be fair.  Let's talk Hunter Wells and how good he can be during/after next season.

As an ex QB and a HS Qb coach, I hate that tipped balls and bad routes go against the Qb stats and I agree that Wells can be good. I just think he and YSU would have been better served had he red shirted. Dante could have won 7 games at least and Hunter could have learned a lot by watching for a year (especially how to read defenses) It's hard to learn when you're thrown into it the way he was. Like it or not, as of today, he is a Sophomore QB and 2 of the top 3 MVFC QB leaders this year were Sophomores, I hope the excuses for him start to fade away.

I'm not convinced Nania could have won seven games. The moment there was adversity (which is about every snap in an MVFC game), he would tuck the ball under his arm and run. The game was just too fast for him. Wells may have been thrust into the role too soon, but I personally think he did a better job than Nania would.

Wells did a decent job as a freshmen, but not so good that he will automatically get the position next year. He's has raise his performance level if he wants to keep the position. He has at least one strong challenger  behind him, maybe two.

Wells has a way to go, whoever coaches the kid will need to get him bulked up and have the strength coach work on his agility.  That is what the RS year was for.  It makes me wonder  why this staff used him unless they knew they were on a short leash this year.
