Title: Cleveland State Game
Post by: ysufan0505 on January 12, 2014, 01:59:44 PM
Big game tomorrow at home vs the Vikings. Hoping for a big crowd, but I doubt it. Especially with the up and down play of the team so far. KP has to get some help tomorrow for any chance to win. That means Weber and Kam knocking down 3's. I'm guessing it's gonna be a high scoring game. We need this W especially at home. Go Guins!

We plan to be there.  CSU is always competitive on our floor.  They used to bring so many fans, we really had to cheer loudly to drown their fans out.  Course that was back in the good old days.  Spirit is gone, I think it left with Dom Roselli.  For those who never experienced those years, you really missed a GREAT time.

Go Penguins

Coach Slocum needs to get MAD(as in nutz). He needs to go bobby knight on everyone. Start throwin chairs arounds, beat some people up. Do like jerry tarkanian- instead of chewing on a towel he could take off his shoes and chew pn them.

He needs to rule by fear and intimidation.. most importantly strike fear into the hearts of the opponent. Lets face it this team meeds every advantage it can get. Call him "mad dog jerry". He is so bad coach wolf wont even talk trash to him.

Maybe this behavior will in turn fire up the crowds and light a fire under their butts. So instead of knittin doilies the fans maybe will start doing what fans are supposed to do at a sporting event- you know stand up, make noise, clap heaven forbid.

It kills me that some of these fans get upset when people stand up during a game. If you dont want people stamding up them go to the movies instead of a game.

It reminds me of the time a guy walked into a local bar and tried to order a hot dog. The bartender looked at him and said "son, we dont have hot dogs here. If you want a hot dog go to a baseball game"

Tonight's game on TV.  MYYTV and STO, good for us who planned to be there (season tickets) but a very minor mishap prevents walking.  Some days are luckier than others.

GO PENGUINS

Take care of yourself Pita - minor mishaps are never minor when they happen to me.

Wow, even the HL announcers are so impressed with KP. He basically pulled back from what cold have been a blow-out by the end of the 1st-half. What a pleasure to watch.

Is anyone breathing yet?! What a Game!!!! That Penn State transfer had thre back-to-back triples and the KP was on fire. They did a really good job covering KP in the second half, but I thought CSU left a lot of points on the bench. Then when Waters put the offense back in ...KP torched them. Then that crap call for steps. KP scores 2 to tie, charity toss for the lead, and knocks the ball back out of shooting range on D.

Is there even a doubt about game MVP?

Left work late tonight and was listening on the way home (Man I love I Heart Radio and Bluetooth).

Sounded like the place was rocking.  I think Robb Schmidt's voice cracked at the end.

Looking forward to seeing the highlights.

Wow!  Great way to open up the homestand!  The kids just wouldn't give up.  Love the defense in the last minute, especially the last five seconds.  KP willed his team to a win!

From my vantage point, it seemed that Hain got hit when he fell to the floor with 5 seconds left.  Thought that would cost us the game.  Fortunately, CSU tossed the ball in near KP.  Not smart.

Never thought that we could stay in this game with the night that Belin had (or more accurately, did not have.)  Great effort against a team that was more athletic than us in every position except one....but that was a very big one.

Great game.    KP was just a man among boys tonight.  I was impressed with how loud the crowd was for a change.  Our defense stepped up when we needed it the most.

Kendrick Perry is the greatest basketball player in YSU history.... Wow what a game!!! A one man wrecking crew! Kam had an awful night, bad passes, horrible defense and 0 points????..... But regardless, good W at home

Very nice win. Team played great defense, and KP took over down the stretch. Fun game to watch!!

Hey, I'm new to the board.
Been a guins basketball fan since the third grade/

What a thrill ride that was!
I keep thinking this team can be so much more. If we're going to win the league, this has to be the year. Players like KP don't come around often.

The defense is very nonchalant. We're good at scoring, but we make it so easy for other the other teams. We saw it tonight though; these guys can play defense when we need them to. I really think we are under-utilizing our bench. Chojnacki is a good alternative to Bobby. Marcus can hit the three and he's lighting quick. Also, it really seems like we are under-utilizing Jalon Plummer. He was the 2nd best player on his highschool team behind Wes Clark (Mizzou). Whenever he got in during the late stages of games during non-conference, I was impressed with his determination on both sides of the court. He fits well with our system. Personally, I'd like to see him in there a lot more, but if he isn't going to get in there, I don't understand the logic not to redshirt him. Obviously talented, we're wasting a year of his eligibility.

Bobby can score a little, but man! It seems like he's trying to handle an ice cube when ever he gets a pass or goes up for a rebound.

I was hopeful Belin would really become a reliable scorer after the Kent St. game, but that hasn't happened yet.

It was a big win because of this: Belin had the worst game of his career IMHO scoring 0 points all night. Also, Keene never saw the floor and bench scoring was limited to Amiker and one layup by Chojnacki.

KP was terrific as always, while Weber continues to be reliable in his role of nailing those three point shots from the corner. Hain's defense on Grady was a thing of beauty though. Perhaps Hain is learning to play some D.

Great win, but we need to beat Detroit Saturday. Can ill afford a letdown.

Go YSU

Yeah I was surprised to not see Keene out there.... But we know Jerry does not like to use the bench. KP just carried us, I mean what else can you say about him?

You need to use your smiley with a wink IP.  ;)

I was questioning that late time-out to set the D, as it gave Waters a chance to set his O with no timeouts left ...but it ended up being the game-winning decision.

You're right 05 it was entertaining, wasn't it? Didn't appreciate crybaby Waters not wanting to credit Perry or YSU after the game instead just saying how his team blew the game, but I guess it was a tough loss for him.  Perry and perhaps Hain are the only guys we have who would even see the floor for CSU so he must be really frustrated losing a game like that. Boy was Belin bad!! He'll need to play much better for us to continue to have a successful home stand. Detroit, Valpo, and Wright St (especially Detroit) are physical teams who will try to take KP out of what he likes to do. As you've said before, others need to step up--starting with Belin.

Wonderful win for Coach Slocum and team.  Now I can go to Cleveland and face all my friends and say...
Well I'll think about what I will say.  A great game and a great KP.

GO PENGUINS!!!

They have to start getting Kam more involved earlier. Once he gets down on himself, he just fades away and looks lost out there. Get him some easy looks early on so it's not a burden on KP every game. Go guins!

I saw the post game comments by both coaches, Slocum was very gracious and respectful of CSU. On the other hand, the CSU coach, sorry his name escapes me, pointed out that his team "gave" us the game by turning the ball over several times, and that we had nothing at all to do with  the turnovers. Go figure!

What a class act.

I agree wholeheartedly, but you all act like he is out there by himself. He is not and there are 4 people on the other team as well that he isnt guarding. KP wants the ball and his teammates know that and give it to him anytime they can. He has a green light to do whatever he wants. Every player including some of the starters do not have that because they are young. Give credit, but don't discredit the rest of the team.

Hard to argue your point, except in certain games like this one where one player scores half the teams total points....

Probably Claude Bentley from North High who played for YSU in the early 70's--he passed away last summer and was well known and respected by many in the area.
