Title: Basketball :(
Post by: YSUalum on February 13, 2011, 11:25:27 AM
Been a while since I have been on here, but after loss number 17 (13 in the Horizon), I felt compelled to vent!  I am sorry, but the Penguin men's basketball job isn't soooo bad that we should be losing 17-20 times per season.  Slocum simply isn't getting it done!!!!  Is this going to be his last year?  Has anyone looked around at other low-mid major jobs who have experienced success?  Why are we so bad?  Robert Morris' budget is worse and has lesser facilities...yet they have gone to the NCAA several times in the last 5 years.  Kent State's facilities are worse AND, believe it or not, it is tougher to get kids into school with their transfer requirements...and let's face it...they have DOMINATED the MAC and are a top 50 program.  Morehead State wins 20 games and is on verge of another NCAA appearance...and has anyone been to Morehead, KY.  St. Mary's is a top 25-esque program and their facilities are worse than a high school gym and are in the middle of nowhere in northern CA.  I could keep going, but I won't.  The one thing these programs have in common though is that they hired young assistant coaches who had never been Division I head coaches...but understood the mid-major landscape.  Guys who are hustlers in the business and could rub 2 nickels together to make a dollar.  Why can't we do this????

I fully agree.  I tired of the excuses like we are a football school and have no money for recruiting.  It can be done but not with Slocum and Strollo around.  There are dozens of programs like ours who have succeeded by hiring the right person who has some D1 recruiting connections.

Could not agree more!  Everytime I think maybe this year we'll be competitive, we lose 20 again.
