Youngstown State junior right-hander Matt Brosky was named Horizon League Pitcher of the Year and junior infielder Braeden O'Shaughnessy was named First-Team All-Horizon League when the league announced its postseason award winners and all-league teams on Tuesday.

Brosky, who was also named First-Team All-Horizon League, becomes the fifth player in school history to earn conference Pitcher-of-the-Year honors. He joins Collin Floyd (2021), Aaron Swenson (2008), Justin Thomas (2005) and Brad Hennessey (2001). Brosky also becomes just the second YSU pitcher since Phil Klein in 2009 to be named First-Team All-Horizon League.

The Penguins had multiple players garner first-team all-league honors for the second consecutive season and for just the second time since 2012. It marks the first time since 2009-10 that YSU has had multiple players earn first-team all-league recognition in back-to-back seasons. O'Shaughnessy becomes just the second YSU infielder since 2013 to be named First-Team All-Horizon League.

Brosky finished the regular season leading the Horizon League with a 2.91 ERA and 89.2 innings pitched while ranking second with 92 strikeouts and a .243 opponent batting average. The Strongsville, Ohio, native tied for the league lead with five victories while pacing the league and ranking third in the nation with four complete games. Brosky's 92 strikeouts rank 47th nationally and as the fifth most in a season in program history. He could become just the fourth YSU pitcher to record 100 strikeouts in a season. With his next start, Brosky will tie the single-season school record of 15 games started. He would become just the fifth pitcher in program history to start 15 games in a single campaign. Brosky finished with a 4-4 record, a 3.72 ERA, 57 strikeouts and three complete games in 58 innings pitched over nine starts in Horizon League play.

O'Shaughnessy earns all-league honors for the first time in his career after being one of the Horizon League's top-producing hitters throughout the 2022 season. The Poland, Ohio, native leads the Penguins with a .366 batting average, 75 hits, 16 doubles, seven home runs, 40 RBIs, 35 runs scored, a .556 slugging percentage, a .437 on-base percentage and 114 total bases. He finished the regular season leading the league in batting average and hits while starting all 53 games. He became the first Penguin since John Koehnlein in 2007 to lead the Horizon League in batting. O'Shaughnessy also ranks tied for second in the league with 16 doubles, fourth with a .993 OPS, fifth with a .556 slugging percentage, fifth with 205 at bats, sixth with a .437 on-base percentage and eighth with 40 RBIs. He is the first Penguin since 2012 to record at least 16 doubles in a season. O'Shaughnessy is also the first Penguin since 2015 to record at least 75 hits in a season. The junior batted .382 and slugged .573 with 12 doubles, three home runs and 23 RBIs over 28 games in Horizon League play.

Youngstown State will open play in the 2022 Horizon League Baseball Championship against Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday at noon at Nischwitz Stadium in Dayton, Ohio. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and YSNLive.com.
