Watched the end of SDS game. Sycamores went 98 yards in 1:30 to force overtime ( settled for a FG on 4th and goal from the 1. They did the same thing from the 2 in overtime. Obviously Indiana st. is a much improved team this season. I'm thinking Illinois st will be the dark horse this year and win the Missouri. Elon over J.M..Wow!! Didn't think other CAA teams had anything for the dukes

Wow Illinois state to win it? I’m all for NDSU until proven otherwise

NDSU is just destroying Illinois St. before halftime 21-0. The Redbirds had one nice drive, but threw pick on 3rd and goal. I was wrong the Bison will be outright champs again in the Missouri and will probably win another national title

Kent St. over Bowling Green in the Mac showcase on Tuesday night. Carl Pelini falls to 0-2 as interim head coach of the Falcons

Not sure if you noticed but the stands were packed.  Course it was a Tuesday night which kept the crowd down. Box score indicates attendance of 13,131 but that was not accurate.

If you watch the buffalo versus Miami game last night there was absolutely no one at the game. Don't know what attendance was there but couldn't be no more than 1500. Buffalo leads the Mac in the standings and they can't draw attendance. If you ever watch the Mac teams football it's like watching high school games. Very very very boring. Let's hope we don't ever join the Mac.

The TV games do draw a crowd.

It’s about exposure and the MAC has the right idea. ESPN and the MAC don’t care how many people are there.  They aren’t on the back channel of espn+ Like we are with the rest of the MVF conference.   If  I had a son and knew that he has a chance to be on TV every Tues and Weds night and we had to chose YSU and a MAC school.  I would advise the MAC. We have no reason to be arrogant anymore like this is the 90’s.  Plus nobody comes to our games anymore and we are in the SEC of the FCS.

I assume ESPN pays the schools a decent buck to play on a Tuesday or Wednesday..

The Mac TV games do not draw a crowd. Evident watching Toledo tonight no one in the stands. Pathetic. I hope we never join the mac and play on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Doesn't matter. Each school gets close to 700-800k a year from ESPN for playing weekday games.

I find it laughable how some of the fans feel the MAC is inferior.  The signed a 100 million dollar deal that gives them 650k to 850k to each team.  Guess what that does it pays for their HC etc. and gives the MAC exposure 2 days a week without having to put one but in a seat.  Pretty smart.

I have to give Indiana St. Some credit they picked up another conference win in overtime. Qb Boyle threw 5 touchdowns and ran for 2 they are still in the playoff hunt. Could very easily be 5-1 in conference play

11/3/18:
Lots of upsets this week:

New Hampshire over James Madison
Furman over Chattanooga
Howard over Florida A&M
Princeton over Dartmouth (no play-off implications, but it was a battle of undefeated teams).
Elon squeaked by Rhode Island (both clubs in line for post-season).
SeMS beat Tennessee State
Samford defeated Wofford
Main defeated Towson

Wow, that JMU upset is huge! They takes JMU From an elite team with a fluke loss to... well maybe they aren’t all that great. And after having 2 or 3 straight years of no conference losses now they have 2 in one season? Crazy

South Dakota over Western..Now we have several valley teams sitting at 5-5..If we could have beat Butler and picked up another win in conference play we would be sitting really nice for playoffs with a win over Illinois St. next week!! More incentive to start the year stronger next year

yes it was leaked yesterday that this year was the year and the committee saw a chance to scale back on the MVFC entries. They said two max. Why not,  conference is not that good, we let the same team win every year. People are bored. It was just like Delaware and the A10. Then the NCAA started to snoop around & they have been past tense (until this year) for quite some time. I am sure if the NCAA decided to set their sites on NDSU, they would fade away as well.

Are you saying that the Bison are doing illegal stuff.
Title: Re: Other Scores of Interest

Probably no more than anyone else, but if the NCAA was given reason to "observe" the program...as with any other, things would change. Just as they did for Georgia Southern, Delaware, YSU, Appalachian State. The rest of NDSU's dominance is location and the simple fact that no one is willing to commit to playing the same style of ball (as NDSU) for a chance to win one game a year. Same advantage that we used to have when we were an independent team. I mean if a team lines up and play's smash-mouth, it is going to take 3-4 years to become good at it. That is 3-4 years of sub-.500 seasons. What AD/HC is willing to do that to their program and careers? Do you guys remember when ISU was still an option team when we first joined the Gateway? They were the only one left and everyone had trouble with them. Why does even a weak YSU team match up well against NDSU? Because we play the most similar style of ball. As to NDSU, let's be honest ...no program is that good. It is just not statistically possible. Even if a team dedicated themselves to defeating NDSU, the Bison can afford to lose 3 games and still make the post-season, so why would they care? It would require a conference to dedicate themselves to focusing on one team (not going to happen). All of this adds up to dominance.

Duquesne defeats #16 Towson 31-10 in the opening round of the playoffs. The Northeast conference continues to recruit and steal players from YSU on a yearly basis

I see that Northern Iowa won 16-13.  Watched some of the game on line and the Lamar field goal kicker missed 2 makeable field goals and an extra point.  Northern Iowa could have easily lost.

Other teams in the playoffs do not look like they could be better than us. We need to just get in.

I watched some of the UNI game and I agree. We probably have top 10, maybe top 15 talent at worst. But you cant implode 3-4 Saturdays a year and expect to get in. we've seen how that works out for the past decade.

Anyway, we were better than both of those teams IMO.

We don’t have top 10 let alone top 15 talent. Our best player on offense by far was McCaster.  He might be a first team all conference.  That’s it on offense.  Defense was horrible none of those guys are first teamers maybe The senior LB and Savin Smith might get on the all conference.  We lack Div 1 depth. Whenever the Bison or South Dakota have an injury the next guy up is almost as good. Between Coaching and takent we are what our record is a bottom tier team in the conference.  Don’t forget how many games our kicker hurt us and we never recruited to replace him.

I disagree on the talent eval. I blame our game planning, preparation and in game adjustments for our failure this year as much as the talent. Our coordinators were in over their heads. They need to get much better, fast.

I cannot argue the shortcomings of our kicking game.

Most teams on our level lack D1 depth. Thats what you get with 63 scholarships.

Our roster is good enough to make the playoffs. Its not good enough to win the league. Our failure to develop a QB is particularly terrifying.

You think Lamar has more talent?  If you have EPSN+ I would invite you to watch some of these teams that made the playoffs. Full scholarship teams only, we know there are a lot of pretenders out there.

Pelini promised that the depth would get addressed after Wolford. I have attended and watched and traveled to many games since 1990.  We finished what third from the bottom in our conference.  That isn’t just coaching.  We had to bring a transfer QB in to start and none of the recruited guys even got any snaps  I just dont see it. Sorry.  This team was one of the weakest teams I witnessed in 28 years.  The Butler game was our wake up call.

I watched some of NDSU's game. They put a graphic up that showed their playoff record against the rest of FCS since they started their run of titles. I believe they are 3-0 against SDSU, and no reason to believe that will change.

I also saw the EWU game, and they won't beat the Bison either. Won't be close.

I've not seen Maine but I don't think Im going out on a limb to say they would also be heavy underdogs.
