Title: When are we going to make a FG?
Post by: penguinpower on September 01, 2018, 06:41:12 PM
This is college football not HS football.  How many chances do you get to make them when they count?

They said on the broadcast he's been kicking at Stambaugh for 7 years. I'd say we've pretty much got a good idea what he brings to the table. Time to give someone else a shot.

Kid has a history of under-performing.  Who else can kick?  Make the change immediately.  Although our margin for error to make the playoffs took a mortal hit today.

That performance was horrible.

Kennedy stinks. He's always stunk. He's still on the roster because he's a senior and from Mooney.

Time to recruit some JUCO kickers.  The last one we had was really good.  These local kids don't seem to be that great.

IMO he is one of the least of our worries. He will get it squared away ... asuming he is healthy.

Kicking in general was not great.   two sub 30 yard punts killed us

I will disagree IAA. Kennedy did poorly last year too when it mattered. As bad as ysu was yesterday if he hit either field goal the game ends with a narrow ysu win.

In the post game press conference Bo said he’d be looking at every option in regards to field goal kicking.

Championship teams make those field goals. My biggest complaint was the FG we did not even attempt, yea it was 4th and short but when you are that close you take the points.

You never know how different the game would have played out but I would have loved to have those 3 points on the board just to see.

Good point. I am am giving him the benefit of the doubt, as he was hurt last year. Perhaps I just like his strength and I am being to forgiving with his accuracy.

He's been awful the last two years. The talk all summer was how healthy he was and then he misses 2 yesterday... It's mental. He's cooked.

Agree, I was done after he missed a big one against NDSU and their kicker drilled it from roughly the same spot, he’s just not a d1 quality kicker imho

This is what I mean. Sure, Kennedy has the leg strength but no accuracy.

Funny, but I'm reading this after watching the NFL Browns game!

What is truly funny is that performance surely made you feel like we are better off at kicker now haha. Though that shouldn't be the measuring stick for our team. I get enough disappointment on Sundays as it is.

obviously it becomes a mental thing and when a kicker is in a slump it is hard to break out of it

After hooking 3 to the left, he tried to compensate it by pushing to the right on his game tying kick. It was a mental thing....he was thinking too much.
It is like taking the penalty kick in soccer. If you think too much, you would lose the focus resulting in missing the goal (24' wide) from 12 yards away

Hopefully Gonya can redshirt and we'll have him for 5 years.

no doubt it's mental.  Almost everything is mental.  There are a thousand guys can hit the ball as far as Justin Thomas or Bryson DeChambeau, but the name of the game is getting the ball in the hole when you need to.  (or between the posts)

That's all they should recruit!!!
Look at the 2 kickers before Kennedy, Cejudo and Brown. Both had very good careers. Granted they kicked for Wolford who never kicked a FG.

Somebody else needs to kick or we need to go for it on 4th down. How does he have a scholarship?
