That's fine and dandy from 247 sports but he is going to play RB lol. He can surely play LB but we have depth there and need him at RB where he is more comfortable and excels.

Maybe, we'll see.  I do disagree with Chief in that we have more depth at LB than RB.  I think DB and DE biggest needs obviously, but LB group is 2 deep in proven players. AD and LW and some blind optimism.  We've had far worse featured RB's over the years than Tevin and everything we've seen from Alessi, while not much, has been good.

Pollock, Wright, Dellovade, Parks, Randall-Posey, Pittman, Newell. We just signed 3 more LB's. We are fine there. RB ? McCaster, Alessi and who ?.... Chapman will play there. He signed as a RB, and a good one.

Everybody has names on a roster.  Wright and Dellovade are proven performers, the rest are names on a roster.  Beyond W & D the leading LB tackler coming back had less than 10 tackles including special teams.
I LOVE Chapman, this side tread got started with me selecting him as MY freshman of the year.  I just don't see the depth at LB, vs RB some of you see.   I can name the starting RB with 16 games played with 652 yards LY and the backup 15 games played 223 yards coming back.  Do the same for the 6 LB you see on this roster.

Alessi played in 1 game ? Last game of the year vs the worst defense in FCS. As for LB, Christian Randall-Posey and Curtis Parks both played last year. Pollock would've played if he didn't get a bad concussion early in the year and redshirted. We'll be fine.

Chris Durkin wonder "IF" he get a look at QB?

Played quarterback for Ursuline...an Offense-Defense All-America Game selection…threw for more than 500 yards and rushed for more than 500 yards despite battling turf toe part of his senior season in 2013…passed for 887 yards and six touchdowns and ran for 722 yards and seven scores as a junior in 2012…listed as the No. 16 pro-style quarterback in the nation and the No. 20 prospect in Ohio by Rivals...ranked as the No. 19 pro-style quarterback in the country and the No. 15 player in his state by 247Sports...coach was Larry Kempe…graduated in 2014.

Ok I will play your game:
We had Webb and Ruiz as our primary backs last year.
McCaster is the only seasoned back coming back. Alessi played in one game and played well. But last year proved anything it is you need more than 2 RB's.

At MLB you have AD and then Parks
At Will you have Wright and Newell
At Buck you have Posey and Pollock
They all played last year in one way or another except Pollock who red shirted. But had more D1 offers than the others combined.

Also I'm not even going to mention the 6'3 240lb linebacker who transferred in. In January but I'm sure you knew about him

We'll see.  I don't see Posey or Parks anything beyond special teams and I don't ever count on anybody with concussion problems, IE QB Davis and LB Pollock.  I wouldn't count on anything from either of them.

Relax.. Ice and I are just saying that we have much much more depth at LB than RB. We have 2 kids coming back to run the ball who saw live action in a football game. 6 LB's saw action last year.

Not being arrogant just stating facts.
Alessi played in one game and you have him as the 2nd RB and he maybe in the spring but I don't think so come fall. Also we used more than 2 backs last year but only 5 linebackers

Chief,
"Relax.. Ice and I are just saying that we have much much more depth at LB than RB. We have 2 kids coming back to run the ball who saw live action in a football game. 6 LB's saw action last year."

Two things, first that is NOT what ice said, he said "Tells me all I need to know about you and your football IQ"
I take offense to that, so no, I don't relax when dissed.
Second.  We have 6 LB's who saw action, but only 2 of three meaningful time, while we have 2 RBs back only 1 of which saw meaningful time.  I simply don't see how you see one position as better prepared than the other.
One thing for sure, the DE and DB weaknesses will put added pressure on the LBs where the veteran QB and OL will offer greater support for the RBs.
And a third thing (I know I only mentioned 2) this concussion thing is a very much developing story in football and a season ending concussion for Davis and Pollock is cause for concern. Plus you don't know HS records etc.  I stand by my statement of not counting on players with serious concussion histories.  Go ahead; tell me I'm crazy on that.

Read a couple posts on a blog and you know all you need about me and my FB IQ, isn't arrogant, but just stating facts!  You are even more arrogant than I thought!
Everybody has players on the field.  Some are LBs some RBs, some make plays and some don't.  We have 2 returning LBs who made meaningful contributions to the team.  2/3 of what you need to even start a game.  We have 1 returning RB make a meaningful contribution, which is all you need to start the game.  And you think your 2/3'rd of a starting lineup is far superior to the RB situation and I simply disagree with what I see as your limited ability to reason.

And they did that because they wanted to, or because they didn't have anybody that they had confidence in?  Watch some of the later games and playoffs and you will see they had Derek Rivers droping in coverage because they didn't have anybody else to play LB.
I'm not interested in being "fine".  I'm interested in being "great".  I'm interested in making plays behind the two biggest holes we've ever had at YSU with the DEs gone, and I don't see the playmakers on the field from 2016, simple as that. I hope you are right, but we'll see.

They did that because that's what the defense called for when they were playing teams that threw more than they ran. Had zero to do with having confidence in the players

That is not true. They did that to get him to expand his skill set and comfortable and used to it for the NFL because he's going to be a 3-4 OLB at the next level.

True, no coverage video at all, but we need pressure on the QBs and we certainly don't have 11 and 9 any more.  And obviously we know the LB depth is a huge issue, just ask Ice.

This staff just has a good relationship with the coaches up at St. Ed's. DJ Thomas, Kyle Hegedus on the roster from there. Continues with Jackson.

Melvin Jackson, DB from St. Edward is in.
Anybody have a theory on why St. Eds sends players our way and St Igges doesn't?  Is my perception true or not?
Coach Chuck Kyle is probably one of the best High school coaches to ever coach the game and the most respected. There seems to be a trend with his players and where they go. Maybe it could be the Mooney and YSU connection..I just don't know, but it's not like we haven't tried to recruit their players over the years..Him and J.T. have always been good friends

Oh God, not another damn LB.  Doesn't everybody know we have far too many LBs already?
How's that Ice?  Apparently Bo thinks we could use another.  I happen to agree with Bo.
Welcome kid, you can play for me anywhere.  Too bad for Navy, I have a sweet spot for the academy's and the character of the kids they take and the men they turn out.

D J Smalls from SC

If I am reading this correctly, he came in a a true soph this year and will have 3 years to give us. They must be very high on him to grab a JUCO after only 1-year. That could be a really good sign for our recruiting in general.

They list him as class of 2020 which supports your specuation on years, but no indication if that is "good sign for recruiting in general" or indication of coach's opinion of DBs

Hard to say Go. Generally you have to be very high on someone to grab him after 1-year. I know that many big programs used to encourage academic issues to stay the second year at JUCO, so they can become soph's or even juniors and get a full 4-years in. Maybe that is not so common anymore, with many 4-year schools offering general studies. I say it will be a very good or poor move in the long run.

I also like the signing of young Chris Durkin. I must be showing my age, as it seems like just a few years ago when his dad was a star for the Guin hard-ballers and hard to believe he is old-enough to have a college-age son. I think he is still 2nd or 3rd highest draft pick at 79. Talent seems to be in the blood. Welcome to the team Chris!

The class is complete. Bo says they still have some scholarships left open. Guessing that is for JUCO and FBS transfers.
